Good morning afternoon everyone!

Ugh. Peanut butter. dead.gif I get ill at just the thought of it. If anyone's interested in why here is the story.
elmcitymaven
Morning all. I'm at my favourite place in the whole universe, the DMV, registering my Ford Taurus (aka the Snoreus or Moby Dick). Alas, the Bitchin' Camaro was not for me (way too much like a hot rod) so I now have the Snoreus. It's like driving a big Dra-lon couch.

I know this is probably a silly question to which the answer is probably going to make me sad...... What's the Hobnob situation over there? I need my hobnobs!!!

crying.gif see that answers my question.

They are amazing sweet, buttery, oaty, crunchy biscuits (sorry...cookies!). Yummy dunked in a nice cup of tea!

I've seen them in the World Market. You can check this link to see if there's one near you.

Again, Shaw's and Stop & Shop can fulfill your needs. Alas, they both lack locations in Nebraska.

We don't have a very good selection of British foods here in Buffalo. Wegman's carry some items, like PG Tips, Bird's Custard, HP Sauce, Heinz Beans....BUT there are so many other items I'd really enjoy having readily availabel in the grocery store. If I'd have realized that World Market was just outside of Cleveland I'd have stopped in when were there last summer....but a 2 hour drive just for that, not likey any time soon!
mustang-sally
Just looked at the World Market site and there is one in Richmond MN, just 62 miles from where I will be living. Just over an hours drive to stock up every month or so seems a good option.
In the meantime I will be scouring the stores in La Crosse, WI. I've already found out that Target does a Boots range of cosmetics smile.gif

We just ordered from englishteastore.com in lieu of being able to actually stop at Jolly's (www.jollygoodgrub.com) on our way back through New York. Which means that we can at least get our sweets, though a trip to Jolly's is worth it if you're missing proper bacon, Lincolnshire sausages, Cornish pasties, good cheese, and all of the lovely meat and dairy you can't get through Customs!

Have to say, englishteastore.com is very reasonably priced.

Gwen, you raised my hopes and then dashed them! I saw "New York" and immediately assumed Manhattan (sorry Julez! typical myopic CT person here, thinkin' all NY is NYC) -- and then envisioned a quick jaunt to Jolly's when I'm in the City next Tuesday. But apparently Saugerties is in upstate NY and about 100 miles away from me. It was the thought of bacon that made me even consider it...

Hmmm... 100 miles isn't THAT far away...
SMB x2
I think driving 100 miles is a fair exchange for a bacon sarnie.

Drown it in HP Sauce. Nom nom nom!

I must admit, I do love Wegman's! I'm born and bred Buffalo, so if you're ever stopping by your second home, give us a holler! We'd love to meet up with some VJ peeps! But don't be jealous that I'm in Buffalo - its bitterly cold and windy today. Griff asked me when he could expect springlike weather and I told him May. He said, "That wasn't the answer I was hoping for." I told him its better to have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised if it happens sooner! laughing.gif

As I am in the South of Buffalo, I tend to frequent the West Seneca store. The Boulvard one is the best though, but the distance + evil traffic keep me away! I could, of course, make an exception to meet up with you! laughing.gif

They are already as far South as Baltimore, so you may want to begin your email campaign to bring Wegman's further South. You could also start a petition. I bet you'll find a lot of support for an excellent super market! Good luck!!!

So, as many of you know, Griff and I were married this past weekend. (YAY!!) So I wanted to share a funny story about a gift that my British husband and I received from my brother and his girlfriend. They were the only people who actually purchased a gift (as opposed to a monetary gift) so I was really interested to see what item caught their eye for us. Inside the small box (still emblazoned with its $18.95 price tag laughing.gif ) was a round picture frame with the following words across the top, as well as printed on a piece of parchment within the frame:

"Tis good to be Irish."

While I have no doubt that it is indeed good to be Irish, I am still baffled as to why they felt this was an appropriate gift for us. unsure.gif They are well aware of the fact that Griff is British. And though my family is of Irish descent, this struck me as an odd (and funny) gift for an American/Brit couple. I know they say its the thought that counts, but its doesn't seem they put much thought into this one! blink.gif
j4k
maybe they just wanted to keep you guessing? congrats on the big day! as i remember, saturday (at least here in NEPA) it was sunny. hope it was beautiful in your neck of the woods as well!

i still want some pics julez!!!

I'm sat tucking into one of the 4 packets of hobnobs I bought today. I figure if I can eat enough of them before I go I'll be sick of them so I wont miss them. No chance of a tunnocks teacake over there either... hmmmm need to re-think my strategy, I'll be enormous by the time I go if I do this for everything!

If I ever upload the pics, you will get pics! Its been such a busy week! Two birthdays and everyday life keep interfering! I haven't even completed my tax return yet and the IRS owes me a fair amount of cash!!

Regarding the food, bring some with you!!! I used a small carry on bag and filled it with my favorite UK biscuits and sweets when I was over! I also stocked up on Branston Pickle. Yum! You can also have your family send you goody boxes once you are stateside!!

I'll be taking golden syrup!

Congratulations on getting married, julez! biggrin.gif And that is a very bizarre present - are they normally bad gift-givers?

I have one aunt and uncle who send rather strange gifts - a Disney nightdress for 8 year olds to my sister when she was 14, for example - and it's good fun trying to find ways to compliment the gift when writing thank you notes.

Hannah - you must be having so much fun with Mark! Can't blame you for not being around at all. I'm starting to grow very bored of this whole visa process.
