The first time I got married...a long time ago, I had them printed professionally, but still had to address them, which was a pain. Second time it was just my family & closest friends, so we used word of mouth to invite them. Very easy!

Care to elaborate, Robin? Is it finally time for our discussion about buying life insurance?
rkl57
Nov 7 2008, 03:17 PM
Ha ha! Maybe I need me some life insurance.
I got an job offer with a very well respected media company back in London. We have wanted to go back but am I ready for it? In the mean time, in a time of economic crisis. I am getting phone calls about other jobs - one in LA, 2 back there. Oh, and I confided with someone at my current place about my offer and he said "don't give them an answer until we have a chance to talk to you. Options!
And in the midst of cost-cutting, they just approved my business trip to Hong Kong next month.
What will I do? I do realize these are fortunate choices to have to make.

Wow, Robin! That is really a great dilemma to be faced with! Obviously, you are good at what you do and well-respected in your industry.
My advice, FWIW, wait for all the offers to come in and then make an informed decision, based on what is really best for you and your hubby.
Good luck and you go girl!! Sounds like you'll be able to afford the best life insurance policy!!!

Robin - sounds like some fantastic opportunities!! Can totally understand the massive decisions though - that must be mind-boggling. I think I might just scream if someone offered me an awesome job back in the UK right about now!!!
And Laura - 40 sounds enough if you're making your own! I've been there and spent many evenings sat in front of the computer online talking to Jeremy while cutting bits of card etc!! My Keiko Matsui album now reminds me of our wedding which is lovely as it is a beautiful album

ugh not been able to post or visit in forever it seems. How is everyone doing??? Kris is adjusting (well to all but the heat!) He has a job offer with my employer but the background search is taking forever (go figure!) We are considering staying in Texas for at least the next 5 years then maybe moving elsewhere colder LOL. Beyond that we are just waiting once more on USCIS to approve his AOS.

Eh, I'm just trying to get enough people to come to the VJ meetup in Chicago. I had to submit my reservations and since at the time the party was of larger number I had to book it as a package deal and put down a deposit. In the mean time I've had a slew of cancellations...I understand stuff comes up so I'm not really mad at anyone, but I'm just really scared right now I won't be able to cover all the costs and will be stuck with a large bill. I've spent my time pleading around to try to find enough people to show up!

Rather odd admission here... I dreamed last night that I was taking part in what was, I guess, UK VJ Idol. I was in the semi-final with Debz and Jeraly, and the three of us were getting all glammed up to go out to some fancy pants nightclub in LA. Debz was telling everyone we could NOT touch her feather boa, and Aly and I were nervous that Debz was going to win it all. We went to the nightclub, paparazzi were everywhere. We walked down the red carpet, waving to our fans and to America. Debz swanned in to the club like she owned the place. Aly and I walked in together, and we were stopped at the door. The bouncer said to me, "She can go in, but not you." "Why?" I cried. "I've been on VJ longer than BOTH of them! This is so unfair!"
Eventually, a producer intervened and we went in to have a little dance and drink cocktails. I have no idea who eventually won the competition.

What can I say? This is what happens when you read "The Amityville Horror" before going to bed, I guess. You wouldn't believe what a diva Debz was -- stealing our makeup, hiding our clothes, making asides to the camera like "I'm going to win this contest -- those two are rank amateurs."

Devc - I can't get my head around you filing for LOC and celebrating your 2 year anni. You got your greencard FAST. Though I guess most people got their's faster than me.
So now I have a counter-offer to stay put in my job. A really good one. Ohhh decisions, decisions.

Would be better when I have a job as we might actually have some money then... unless Maven is buying of course as we just gave her all our money!!

Just j/k

She was very lovely and bought us brunch so technically we got a discount

AND the car made it all the way back to PS without filling up

Hey guys Thursday is my first day at my new job. Friday, yesterday and today I spent putting videos in to the edit bays for America's funniest Home Videos. I'm very tired of watching kids and pets doing dumb things.
How's the decisionmaking coming Robin?
rkl57
Nov 12 2008, 10:41 AM
Decision making was completed last night - my present employer made me an offer I simply could not refuse. Huge promotion and raise. AS much I was interested in the BBC offer, I couldn't help but shake that it would have been a sideways move and that I would have to spend the next year or so building the relationships and good will in order to progress forward - basically to get what current employer is offering right now would be at least a few years down the line. I never expected this to happen so quickly.
It seems so odd, to have such choices in this economy. I suppose it's karmic payback for all my career woes back in the 90s economic boom.

OH lord. Prop 8, the gift that keeps on giving. According to 538.com the whole 'it's the black people's fault' line that was going around, is really not borne out by the statistics, new voters (read record African-American turnout) voted mostly against Prop 8. Oh dear, on a night with a great step forward there were plenty of small steps back it seems.

I haven't found any decent polling data online.
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/polls/#CAI01p1Every ethnic group supported marriage equality, except African-Americans, who voted overwhelmingly against extending to gay people the civil rights once denied them: a staggering 69 - 31 percent African-American margin against marriage equality. That's worse than even I expected. Whites, on the other hand, clearly rejected discrimination: 55 to 45 percent. Latinos were evenly split. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_...8-exit-pol.htmlLOS ANGELES – California's black and Latino voters, who turned out in droves for Barack Obama, provided key support for a state ban on same-sex marriage. Christian, married and older voters also helped give the measure the winning edge, according to exit polls for The Associated Press.
Exit poll data showed seven in 10 black voters and more than half of Latino voters backed the ballot initiative, while whites and Asians were splithttp://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20...ws_1n6exit.html

hmmm. although the lack of data for black sub-demos makes me wonder how big the sample was for AAs- assume it was weighted to the CA general population.
Though I will say this - the only people I've seen and heard denying the effect of high minority turnout on prop 8 are white people. My AA work colleague campaigned hard for Obama and is very politically active and tells me that there was significant outreach for Yes on 8 to the community.

We all need a little stress-reliever! This only takes a minute. Sometimes when you have a stressful day or week, you need some silliness to break up the day. If we are honest, we have a lot more stressful days than not. Here is your dose of humor...
Follow the instructions to find your new name..
The following is excerpted from a children's book, Captain Underpants And the Perilous Plot Professor Poopypants, by Dave Pilkey, in which the evil Professor forces everyone to assume new names...
So:-
1. Use the third letter of your first name to determine your New first name:
a = snickle
b = doombah
c = goober
d = cheesey
e = crusty
f = greasy
g = dumbo
h = farcus
i = dorky
j = doofus
k = funky
l = boobie
m = sleezy
n = sloopy
o = fluffy
p = stinky
q = slimy
r = dorfus
s = snooty
t = tootsie
u = dipsy
v = sneezy
w = liver
x = skippy
y = dinky
z = zippy
2. Use the second letter of your last name to determine the first half of your new last name:
a = dippin
b = feather
c = batty
d = burger
e = chicken
f = barffy
g = lizard
h = waffle
i = farkle
j = monkey
k = flippin
l = fricken
m = bubble
n = rhino
o = potty
p = hamster
q = buckle
r = gizzard
s = lickin
t = snickle
u = chuckle
v = pickle
w = hubble
x = dingle
y = gorilla
z = girdl e
3. Use the third letter of your last name to determine the second half of your new last name:
a = butt
b = boob
c = face
d = nose
e = hump
f = breath
g = pants
h = shorts
i = lips
j = honker
k = head
l = tush
m = chunks
n = dunkin
0Ao = brains
p = biscuits
q = toes
r = doodle
s = fanny
t = sniffer
u = sprinkles
v = frack
w = squirt
x = humperdinck
y = hiney
z = juice
Thus, for example, George W. Bush's new name is: Fluffy Chucklefanny.
