I am super busy today my updates have been delayed!

My summary of the evening:

* since katharine heigl wasn't written any emmy worthy material this season, bitchy flare-ups I witnessed were at a minimum
* only truly bad behavoir I witnessed was from the industry suits
* ceremony itself was a total snoozefest.
* because it was at a new place that was much bigger than the Shrine, there was a lot of confusion on the way in. Now, this being Hollywood where the caste system is more pronounced than India, a major fracas ensued when "non-celebrities" were seen using the VIP metal detector security check point.
* I'm fairly certain Brooke Shields was completely flootered
* Nicollette Sheridan needs to sue her plastic surgeon.

Also - Phoebe Price. Who is she, where did she come from and how can we get rid of her? wtf?

Howie Mandel was hoooooooooooooooooooooorrible. And Seacrest too.

That Laugh In skit had me cringing. Same with Rickles. Yikes.

I was cringing many times. Also, "television is what binds us together." Whatever O! I was also left wondering how a group of Hollywood liberals could produce an event more white than the Republican Convention

good morning everyone.

I'm fairly certain Brooke Shields was completely flootered What does "flootered" mean?
* Nicollette Sheridan needs to sue her plastic surgeon. I never understood why she was so attractive in the first place...these days her skin is pulled so tight over her skull she is starting to resemble the Crypt Keeper

Also - Phoebe Price. Who is she, where did she come from and how can we get rid of her? wtf? No one seems to know the answer for this. Maybe I should just show up on a red carpet one day in a designer gown and see what happens kicking.gif

look at the stupid cr@p that passes for entertainment news in ireland:

Ronan Keating 'blanked' by Thom Yorke
The Boyzone star said: "Thom Yorke from Radiohead was pretty rude."

"We were at the same hotel in Dublin and I went over to say hello as I'm a big Radiohead fan and he just blanked me."

Keating added: "I still love the music - he's just an idiot."

Am awake too - Jeremy's last day off before going back to work - boo!!! After the oven-breaking fiasco, our landlord apologised and we should be getting a new one today - not only that but he is reimbursing us $50 as well which I wasn't expecting and thought was really nice of him! I'm busy looking up bread recipes as Jeremy has declared that he wants to spend the $50 on oven-food laughing.gif

K so I need advice from all you UKer's.

I do a job where I need to be in the union for most of the available work. To get in to the union you have to do 100 days of equivilent non-union work, which should have been done in the US. In the UK I worked for an american company doing an equivilent job. They have an office here, so I went to see them 3 weeks ago, they said they would write me a letter to say that I had done the necessary work.

But they still haven't written it. I've had 2 emails (following enquiries from me) from the guy that will be doing it saying that he's busy and will get to it. I know that they're busy and doing me a favour, but how much do you think I should bug them? I'm applying for non-union work anyway in case the letter doesn't work, but so far, I haven't even gotten an interview. I'm getting nowhere fast, and beginning to get a little despondant. Has anyone got any advice?

the UK office hasn't got anyone in it that could help me. It's a very small company, so the only person that I could go to besides the LA guy would be his boss. I don't know if that's bad to do, going over his head. They have hired me directly in the past, and may in the future, I don't want to get this guys back up.

Hey Poiteen - I have been meaning to email, but have been a little slammed. I have been calling on some people I know, but the union thing is a problem. I need to follow up with some stuff though.

Is this just the matter of having the letter? Can you offer to write the letter and just have the guy sign it?

That's cool Robin, I'm just getting impatient with these guys, cos I don't even know if the union will accept the letter and my UK paystubs. If they do, great, if they don't, at least I would know where I stand. That's why I just want to sort it out, and move on.

As for the letter itself, I have given them the exact letter that they would need to sign. sigh. I guess I might have to go to his boss. I just need to figure out how to do it without pis$ing anyone off.
rkl57
You have the experience you need to get in the union, yes? Can you apply for jobs and say that your membership is pending?

This may sound like a cheeseball suggestion - but have you offered to take the guy to lunch to help move the process along?

I agree with going to his boss - just phrase things really nicely explaining that you know that X person is really busy and you really appreciate that he is going to do this for you but the delay is preventing you from getting any work yourself and that it would be really helpful if something could happen soon. Sometimes you have to step on toes, especially if it is something so important. You can apologise later if you get anyone's back up, but if he has a problem taking time out to just sign a letter then he needs to accept that you will have to take other steps.

As for the oven - apparently now someone is coming out tomorrow now sad.gif Boo!! Oh well - we are going to use it as an excuse to go out to a lovely little Italian place that is cheap and yummy biggrin.gif

Pointy - This is your career. No, you should not calm down. Sorry, but I really think you should be more aggressive - this is LA, there are a ton of people vying for the same jobs in the industry. You need to know if you are union or not so you can get non union gigs! smile.gif

Charles -- it was awesome. And guess what? They ALL turned out to be the babydaddy! There was one that didn't hew to the title of the show, and truly was sad. The mother had been seeing someone else about a week before she met the putative father. She became pregnant almost immediately in the new relationship, but the new boyfriend/father didn't flinch and stayed with her, eventually becoming a loving father devoted to his partner and daughter. However, the woman never told the father she had been with another man a week before they met. The old boyfriend found out a baby had been born, and started claiming he was the father. Cue the entrance of the Maury program. The new "daddy" was a real jerk, and everyone was rooting for the guy who had stepped up to the plate. The jerk turned out to be the father, of course, and everyone else was devastated. The guy who had been there all along said he would stand by his partner and the child he considered his daughter, even if he wasn't biologically her father.

Maury did say something I thought was a bit out of line -- he said women should learn not to sleep with more than one guy at a time. First, this woman was NOT sleeping with two guys at one time; she was seeing one guy, they split up, she met another one. Okay, she did sleep with him a week later, but seriously, this is not overlapping. And second, why shouldn't a woman sleep with more than one man if she wants to? I'm not advocating it myself, but I'm not about to judge women or men who do so.
