Evenin', charles -- oh and everyone else too!

A looooong day doing stuff for Aly's Saturn. First I went to the AAA to see if they could sort out the registration for me. No dice -- on to the DMV. Mmmmmm, Van Nuys. Anyway, I waited about an hour and came away with a temp tag for the Saturn. BUT I found out the piece of cr@p car dealer who sold it to us forgot to give us two crucial pieces of paper transferring the title properly. It's not really a big prob, just need to get in touch with them and get the docs sorted. In the meantime, we can get the Saturn on the road and B can start working on getting it ready. It's a good thing I luvs ya, Aly! luv.gif

Ooooh, Emmys? Can't wait for the dishing!

So I got to work well before 6am and instead of working I am decided to post on here to wish everybody a happy Friday!

Happy Friday to you too GG.

I think I'm regretting wearing wearing the skinny jeans today. They are a wee bit tight....I'm worried it looks like they are painted on my body!

Skinny pants don't ever feel right on me....partly because I have the problem of pants either fitting around the waist and not my caboose or vice versa. Also with skinny pants I feel like I have a weak midget grabbing my ankles all day. My ankles need to be free!

Well is a happy Friday indeed despite being up too early considering the late night I had. Jeremy managed to sleep through the whole night then started snoring at about 7am. That combined with me letting Daisy out then in again, sorting the little guy out who decided that he wanted to sleep on my face then play with my nose I haven't had much of a night's sleep at all. Ah well - Jeremy owes me now devil.gif

He has five days off which is nice - we're heading to Yucaipa today to get more things from storage - we are trying to clear it out asap so we can utilise the van and cut out a $60 a month bill smile.gif Also going to get my hair cut at last - it really really needs it! Fancy a bit of a change though but want to grow my hair longer again... maybe I'll put some pink in it biggrin.gif
ginger1981
Nothing makes me feel more feminine and beautiful than a new haircut. Unless it wasn't a very good haircut of course!
rkl57
Ginger - if you have been training for half marathons I'm sure those jeans look a lot better than you think!

GG - lol about the midgets. This is why I wear boot cut! I always feel with low slung skinny jeans that I am falling out of them, like some hippity hop youth who needs a belt.
Poiteen
I've never felt comfortable with skinny jeans, but then I never felt comfortable with those low waisted jeans either, and I was in my teens when they came back in to fashion (at least where I lived), if i didn't wear trendy clothes when I was most suseptible, I suppose I'm not going to start now with skinny jeans. Though I have to say that on a skinny day in topshop about 3 years ago I bought some. They just about fitted me that day, and never since. baaaaa headbonk.gif

Muffin top if minimal, but I still feel like I could bounce a quarter off my butt.

I don't mind the midgets tugging at my ankles affect...I like tucking my jeans into my boots.

I was having lunch nearby recently when all the girls and Hef came in as part of shooting the new series of that! Hef looks like he's about 200 years old. I can report that he needed assistance getting himself to the men's room innocent.gif

I can't imagine what the dailies of that show look like. Heff sleeping most of the day, and the girlies saying really dumb stuff. And the edit team trying to make a show out of it. rolleyes.gif

laughing.gif You guys crack me up biggrin.gif

As for new haircut - I think I am just going to have layers at the front and grow out the other layers and get a trim. Also going to get it dyed pink underneath as I kinda always wanted pink hair all over but wasn't brave enough laughing.gif Now I figure that no-one knows me here so I don't really care what people think if it looks awful!!!

As for skinny jeans, I am feeling decidedly fat right now and totally need to get on a healthy eating kick. I am just fed up with there being no routine - Jeremy can call me before he leaves work telling me he will be 20 minutes, I'll get something ready then he gets back so late it is ruined because something happened at work! Other days he is home really early and it all just drives me nuts - I just want a normal dinner time routine!!! Must make more effort somehow...

How does everyone else deal with it? Surely Jeremy isn't the only person who works stupid overtime? I'm used to dinner at 6pm because mum used to get home from school about 5.30 and watch Neighbours while I made dinner (if I was in first).

Pointy - good news on the apps - it might not be what you want to do forever but at least it is a start and if you get some interviews then you can at least get feedback even if you don't get the jobs smile.gif Hope you hear something back soon!

I always make stuff that can be stuck in the fridge after. Pasta, with a nice sauce is perfect for reheating. The sauce often tastes better cos all the flavours mix together while it's sitting there.
elmcitymaven
Pointy -- in a weird way, that is awesome, almost as awesome as getting a job on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Pure junk, ahhhhhh.

I too am having a hair moment -- there's the big (and growing) white streak, the ratty ends, the fact that I have the same hairstyle I had in my senior year of high school (except my hair is my natural colour now, is in much better condition and looks shiny and straight, and isn't shaved underneath, yes, that's right. Shaved. Used to do it in the shower with a Lady Bic.) so yawn. Is there something in the VJ water at the moment?
Poiteen
ohhh and mexican stuff too, you just cook up the chicken or beef or whatever, and once it's done stick the lid on and leave it there. Make a nice fresh salsa, and leave it in the fridge. Dinner anytime!!

Hmm - yeah - I think I need to spend some time looking up one-pot meals that are minimal effort. I can make it a new project for me when Jeremy goes back to work or something biggrin.gif Mmmm smile.gif

Maven - glad to hear it's not just me with the hair thing. Mine is all frizzy and horrible and part of it is because I haven't had it cut since before I got here and part of it is because it is hot and dry and I am prolly not using the right shampoo and things. I really want nice, shiny hair that is in good condition but mnleh.

I have a kitten who is trying to climb the palm we have in the living room... I can see the place in total disarray when we get back!!
*julez*
lol @ Maven....I had the shaved under my hair thing too, also with a diposable razor! laughing.gif Good times.

Amazingly, no celebrity sightings here in Buffalo lately. Though a number of years ago I did have a few beers with Robby Takac from the GooGoo Dolls. But considering that he's from Buffalo, the story loses its cache.

I make this casserole every week or two. I substitute ground beef with ground turkey, the moz cheese with the low fat/2% moz cheese, and the crescent rolls with the low fat crescent rolls. Also, instead of buying a head of cabbage I buy cole slaw mix...quicker and easier that way...and to make sure I get plenty of veg in I put extra cabbage in.

I like to make this and then freeze it. On a night when Jeremy gives you the 20 minute warning put it in the oven as it only takes about 20 minutes to bake ...it would be a perfect hearty meal for you two. Nicky likes to make some Bisto gravy to smother it in but I prefer to eat mine as is.

Runza is kind of a Nebraska thing, but Nicky says it seems like something that would go over well for Brits too.

RUNZA CASSEROLE

2 lbs. hamburger
2 onions, chopped
4 c. shredded cabbage
Salt & pepper to taste
2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
1 lb. Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Use 9"x13" pan. Begin to brown hamburger and onion for a few minutes in a large pan and add cabbage to steam. Spread 1 tube of crescent rolls over bottom of pan. Spread meat on top and add cheese. Place second tube on top and pinch together again. Bake 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cover last 10 minutes to soften crust. Perfect for Runza lovers and so much easier than making individual ones.
Poiteen
ginger - that casserole sounds good, what are cresent rolls?

curries are the perfect reheating food too
rkl57
Also - salads are a good option! You can really make a meal out of them if you add some grilled chicken or something. We've been doing this a lot lately due to needing to lower hubs cholestrol. I'm the one with the irregular schedule in our household - salads can be whipped up in minutes and can be very satisfying.

I also shaved underneath my hair in the 80s. I think I used electric though. I created "lines" underneath my lopsided do. Julez and Maven - did you ever have the lopsided do? I believe illumine had one!

Pointy - are reality and light entertainment union? I know writers aren't covered by WGA on reality (because obviously nothing needs to be "written" as it's all "real")

Similar to croissants....but I would say a bit on the heavier side of the bread spectrum.

They come in a tube, and when you take them out they look like this (only the sections are all connected)

You basically use the sheet of dough on the top and the bottom instead of breaking it into individual squares or triangles. If it doesn't quite fit you can stretch it out a bit.

If you ever want to make it, pm/email me and I can take some photos of the process. I'm one of those people who is a visual learner, so if the whole crescent roll dough directions sound confusing don't be afraid to tell me it would be easier to send photos!

Oooo...Runza's in London! But these people are trying to make it traditional style...which I don't reccomend unless you have a lot of time on your hands!

Um, yeah I had that 'do. blush.gif I believe we called it an asymmetric cut back then. I laugh to think how my head was always tilted to one side as a result, as if the longer bit of hair was so heavy! laughing.gif

Oh yes - the asmmetric do. Aside from a few experiments with Sun-in and lemon juice and henna I never dyed my hair. Which was probably a good thing as it was so - ahem - heavily permed at the time.

Ditto ditto ditto! I totally rocked the asymmetric cut from 1986-1988. And yes, my very dark brown hair just had to be blue-black once I hit 1989, when the asymmetric thing was gone and normal length hair returned. In my senior year, my hair was down to my waist, and was dyed red-brown, which in the wrong light looked orange. Niiiiice. It was also totally, utterly fried, shaved underneath as mentioned above, AND I had one streak that was peroxide blonde. 1990 never looked better.

And what was up with all that head tilting??? Good lord, Julez, I think you hit on the real reason.
illumine
Does anyone else go grocery shopping almost every night? We do & I think it's a holdover from London & the days of small fridges.

Pointy - I hit the farmers market every SUnday - that stuff usually last til Friday! I think because it's fresher.
rkl57
I think I stopped the assymetric do and the shaving at about 1988 and I grew my hair out. The perming continued, however. It was all about the teasing of the bangs from 1988-1991
ginger1981
Sun In - that stuff NEVER worked as far as I could tell.

From the archive of bad haircuts, here is my first mullet:

Thankfully, it was my only mullet.

Guys, all this walk down hair's memory lane and I am crying laughing here at my desk. Now my colleagues will know with certainty that I am insane!

My hair was asymmetric from about 84 to 86. Had a few of what I will term normal years, where it was cute with some professional highlights. I think it was late 88 when I decided that a perm was in order. Stuck with that misguided look for a few years.

rofl.gif @ Ginger's mullet. Pretty sure I had something similar in the 70's. Makes me hate my Mom that she made such terrible hair choices for me. tongue_ss.gif

I think it was about 1989/1990 when I got my first spiral perm. I have a picture of it somewhere...I think I'll have to scan it when I get home. It was truly atrocious...it always looked poodle-ish with a nice little poofball bang to it.

That picture is truly of it's era. I was wearing a little pink outfit that had pink bikeshorts with lace appliques and lace around the bottom hem of the legs...and my hair was about 3 feet in diameter. At some angles I could block out the sun.

Why did our mothers hurt us with mullets? I'm still going to therapy rofl.gif
rkl57
My hair evolution is thus:

early 70s - born with short curly hair followed by lopsided hair cuts, as a result of mother being my stylist
mid 70s - hair is allowed to grow as long as possible, crystal gayle style
late 70s to early 80s - dorothy hamill
mid 80s - "feathered" hair; first perm. Aqua-net and an oversized comb essential
86-88 - assymetric.
1988-1992 - mall hair
1992-present - various bobs
*julez*
Loving the hair histories! When I was a kid my Aunt Mickey was a hairstylist and we always had to go to her for our haircuts. She was evil! She'd yank the tangles viciously out og your her and cut my ear on more than one occasion, never apologizing for anything. I remeber on time in the late 70's she burned one of her customer's with the curling iron (!) and got mad when the lady complained. She was and is a real peice of work.

So, I couldn't wait for the day that I could choose where I got my haircut and would pay for it myself. The year is 1982 and I have my own paper route, making money! Yeah. Cut a pic out of a magazine, and clutching it firmly in hand enter Eri Gene's salon. The excitement at getting the haircut of my choice was unbearable. How every one will envy my stylish new haircut, I thought to myself. Thirty minutes later, after the "stylist" complaining bitterly about how thick my hair is, I walked out of there with what I can only describe as a bowl haircut. I was crushed. It was the exact same haircut Aunt Mickey had given me in 1978. As an 8 year old it wasn't so bad, but as a 12 year old I wanted to die. laughing.gif

The good thing about aging is that you come to realize that your hair will grow back. And that what looks good right now will likely look really funny in 20 years! So what the heck!
ginger1981
I operate under the same philosophy...I don't mind taking risks with my hair. It grows back fast to boot...right now I'm growing it back out a bit as for the last couple years it has been pretty short. I want to see how I rock a bob now.
illumine

Need to find and scan. My mom still has most of the pics of me that hail from my first 20 years.
elmcitymaven
Seems like all the ones I have available scanned in are from the ratty long hair era, though I know I have some from the early 90s pitch black bob (a la Louise Brooks) phase. I never went for a perm -- I saw what the 80s had done to my mother's hair and said no thanks. My hair journey is fairly similar to Robin's at the beginning, including a HORRIBLE Dorothy Hammill-cum-asymmetric cut in 1986 that was so short one of my teachers actually thought I was a boy. For 3 months! (Jesus, did I just say that in public?) The funny thing was, I was wearing ra-ra skirts, jelly bracelets all the way up my forearms and even had boobs.

And I was all about the teasing too, though not really in a big hair way. My hair was all one length when it was very long, but I would tease the front section up to make a tsunami-effect wave thing. I used not only Aqua Net but something called Hair Epoxy. Man, that stuff was the bomb. Your hair *never* moved. There were several experiments with egg whites as well, and even a beehive once after the original Hairspray movie came out.
elmcitymaven
Okay, this is the only one I can find right now, but as it's black and white you don't get the true horror:

I think I am 16 there, and very very deep. Also, my hand looks freakishly large.

rkl57
maven, were you going through a period of being misunderstood when that picture was taken?
*julez*
I remember being that tormented as a teen! And funnily, that looks a lot like a pic I took of my friend Lisa in photography class in highschool. A classic pose.
elmcitymaven
I am still misunderstood! That was no phase. I couldn't go for pale and interesting with my colouring, so I just wore a whole lotta black, as I still do. In fact, I've often thought that my whole "Hey, I should move to London!" lark started with the idea that somehow people were a lot more in touch with their tortured, morbid souls and that all the guys would be just like Morrissey and Robert Smith. WRONG.
