She is five and is currently lying on the bed while the little one cries in the bathroom - he was quiet a moment ago and I spent a while playing with him while Daisy was outside but I don't want her to feel abandoned by me paying the little guy too much attention while she is feeling threatened in her territory. I put a couple of larger toys in with him that Daisy doesn't play with because he started playing with my hand like he was playing with his brothers and sisters (ie chewing it) and he got engrossed with that for a bit - I just feel mean locking him away but I guess it will help him realise that it is his safe place smile.gif

I am just such a soft touch and hate to hear either of them unhappy. Daisy's tail has stopped flicking now though which is good though not expected to last. And the little guy has realised that he doesn't like the shower after miaowing because I was in there, then trying to run inside to the far corner laughing.gif He got a bit wet!!
rocks
sounds like fun and games at your house, i'm jealous! wish i still had a cat.

luckily daisy isn't too old so i think she will eventually be accepting of new kitty once shes learnt that he bows down to her and isn't a threat.

i'm a soft touch too, it must be sad listening to the little guy in the bathroom, he prolly can hear you in the house and misses you crying.gif hehe

Jeraly
Yeah - well that is what we thought - and Daisy can be quite playful although she is very much her own cat (as most cats are devil.gif ) so we thought a kitten would be less of a threat to her as she can whip it into shape. I couldn't believe it when he escaped the bathroom and ran right up to her at her food bowl this morning - I thought she would kill him there and then!!! Going to the toilet is a total fiasco - being a girl and having to sit down for everything means that while I am sat with my knickers around my knees, the little bugger jumps into them then tries to sit on my lap, climb onto my shoulder and play with my hair... Speed-wiping is going to have to be a skill I learn quickly as I have to throw him on the floor, grab the TP, throw him on the floor again, finish up, throw him on the floor again then get up, wash hands etc.

Sorry for the too-much-info but it amuses me anyway!!

Of course, then I wash my hands so he jumps up to the sink. Cleaning my teeth this morning I had him on my shoulders/back as I was bent over the sink. Then comes the trying-to-bribe-him-with-toys so I can sneak out while he isn't looking, which is harder than it sounds. He managed to just get out but Daisy just watched him as she is on the bed now. I managed to get him back in and he cried at the door for a bit but he stopped already so he is prolly having a nice big poo behind the toilet or some other awkward place for me to clean up laughing.gif
ginger1981
I used to have a cat named Cricket. Several yeas ago I shared a duplex with a couple guy friends and one of them brought home a kitten from his family farm one day...a kitten he named Pedro lol. Cricket was already fixed and was actually a very social cat who liked to snuggle and have the company of other kitties, so I wasn't too concerned about her having a companion.

She would crack me up I tell you...she would chase Pedro down, pin him to the ground, and just when I would think she was going to kill him she would start grooming him LOL. I think she had some motherly instincts and just wanted to take care of him...however wee Pedro HATED getting bathed by Cricket. *sigh* I miss my Cricket...she now lives in Springfield, MO and has a companion kitty named Jiminy lol.
*julez*
When I introduced a new cat into our household this year, I just let them have at it. They will hiss for a while, but eventually Daisy will get over her feelings of betrayal. I was amazed at how quickly my cat adjusted. Just my personal opinion, but as long as you are at home with them I'd not bother locking the little guy up, but let them figure out how to deal with each other and maybe segregate them for the first week at times when no one is home.
Jeraly
Hmm I am tempted as the little guy is crying at the door again and Daisy is still sleeping on the bed. I am sure he will get swatted a few times but here goes... I'll just make sure they don't kill each other... unsure.gif
*julez*
They will be fine!! Have fun watching the pouncing and playing!!
Jeraly
Hahaha - well the little guy keeps trotting after me wherever I go and when I came back into the bedroom he lost me so he miaowed and I called him but he jumped up on the bed right where Daisy was sleeping!!! She swatted him and he backed into the bathroom - now he has just made his way into the bedroom again but Daisy is growling at him - she doesn't seem too impressed!
*julez*
Daisy will get over it! Just give her time. The more she see the little one around, the more she'll get used to him.

What have you named this fellow?
rocks
i vote we get to see a picture too wink.gif
Jeraly
He doesn't have a name yet - I took some photos for you guys but need to get the other puter on to get them online. I think we have now established that the bed belongs to Daisy. Of course, she is yowling at the poor little thing who kept trying to run to me, but halfway gets growled at by Daisy. When he finally made it onto the bed, he huddled up next to me (I got out of the way - I figured it was safest!) Eventually, Daisy decided that she didn't want him clinging to the edge of the bed with his tiny claws so she batted him down.

Daisy doesn't want me near her either at the moment and keeps growling at me as well and the poor little guy keeps wandering around the house then crying for me because he doesn't know where I am. When I call him, he comes to the bedroom door and Daisy growls and so now he went back to the bathroom!!!

Oh dear I feel incredibly mean!
rocks
daisy is obviously annoyed because she thinks it's her house, but she will soon adjust to another cat being there. i'm sure she will warm to him in the end, i mean who can resist a cute little kitten?? wink.gif

and don't feel mean, you just gave a cat a home, that was a good thing!
rkl57
yes - we definitely need to see photos.

I have wanted to get another cat, since our current one gets lonely and cries at the door when we are not there. But I think our place is really only big enough for one.
Jeraly
Well this little bugger is braving the bed again while Daisy is asleep on it - I am expecting fireworks soon!! Especially as last time the little one tried to play with Daisy's tail while she was asleep ohmy.gif
Magenta
Having done this 10 times now I can honestly say this is normal. I tend to just leave them too it, to be honest, although I make sure I am nearby just in case things get violent. It seems, to me, that Daisy will be fine. She hasn't full out attacked him, just doled out a few warning swipes. I think lil kitten is curious, obviously, and he just wants to play. Daisy is being the spoilt child who doesn't want to share.

She'll come around! biggrin.gif

Jeraly
Ok - I trust you!! They are both on the bed now asleep! The little guy snuck up when Daisy was sleeping so she hasn't noticed him yet - he is staying close to me but is totally zonked out - I think tearing around the house earlier wore him out! I have a video of him doing circuits on the sofa, attacking a plastic bag, tearing up to the arm of the sofa, running across to the bag... you get the idea!!! Peace reigns... at least for a short while...

Of course, now we *really* need a car as we were going to wait until we got one so we could use the gas money saved for extra kitty things!

My Mate, Marmite! biggrin.gif

Mmmmmm, nothing like some brown bread toast with a thin layer of Marmite.

There's nothing that can really replace marmite on toast. I don't love the stuff, but it hits a particular spot.

Jeraly - how are the kitty cats now?
Jeraly
Well we've come to blows a few times, normally when the little one is being a bit too boisterous near Daisy and she doesn't want him to get too close but earlier they were really close and just looking at each other - that was when the little one was being more quiet. As it hasn't even been 24 hours I am feeling hopeful that Daisy will eventually come out of her grump and get on with things. He does NOT like being locked in the bathroom now - I shut him in when two guys came over to look at our oven which is broken and he was howling the place down! He is currently playing on the sofa next to me while Daisy sleeps in the chair. Daisy also doesn't like it when I smell of the little one so I have to wash my hands before I pet her. As she is still p*ssed at me I don't manage to pet her that often but I try so she knows I still love her sad.gif

The little guy also likes to lick my ears and I had a couple of wet willies earlier which was nice(!) He looks like he is about to go to sleep again now though on top of his cuddly mouse. I gave it to him because Daisy prefers smaller toys that are like real animals to chase, whereas this little guy is used to playing with his brothers and sisters. He *has* tried playing with Daisy's tail and her paw while she was sleeping but she hissed at him and he ran away so he might learn soon that she doesn't like to play when she is asleep!!!

I have tiny scratches all over me from where he has just been jumping up at me and climbing all over - nothing serious but it does look a bit like I am a severe self-harmer ohmy.gif laughing.gif

We have a BBQ to go to later so the poor thing is going to be locked in the bathroom for the duration so Daisy doesn't tear him to pieces. And also so that he doesn't eat all her food like he did earlier! Of course, she just led on the chair watching him so I figured it was her fault - she could have stopped him if she wanted to! But he went mad for it! I can see this causing problems!!

Oh - as for names, so far the only thing that I think suits him is Rex but Jeremy will prolly hate it laughing.gif
Jeraly
Oh - kitty pics - not too many yet but will get more! Lemme know if you can't see them smile.gif

Aly-

Why don't you put him in the bedroom? The bathroom is awfully tiny for anything to be locked in.

Jeraly
Because Daisy would go mad clawing at the door if we closed the bedroom door sad.gif She considers that her territory and would be even more annoyed. The little guy has a fair amount of space in the bathroom cause he plays in the shower and things as well and he is so tiny - but now he has had the run of the house (within Daisy's watchful eye) he just doesn't want to stay in there!!!

His litter tray and food and things are in the cupboard with the doors open so that saves up a bit of space as well... after this morning's pee escapade I am still wondering if he will use the tray! laughing.gif And I keep consoling myself with the fact that he at least has a TON more space than the tiny glass cubicle he was sharing with the other three kittens sad.gif

Dave is a great name for a cat; I knew a dog in London named Dave and he was just about the coolest dog I ever met. He was a 15yo chocolate lab who was sooooo chilled out, and literally said "WOOF" when he barked.

Daves are always cool.

I picture a Dave cat as more of a bruiser tom cat though, not a cute ickle kitten. Still, my next male cat will be given serious consideration to be called Dave.

i've been trying to reign in the spending. It's really easy for me to justify things 'well we will need one at some point' but i really have to stop. When I used to have to carry the groceries home myself, I never bought too much in one go, I never realised how much that was holding me back tongue.gif Also I really hate owing money to credit cards, and although I've been using one, I'm trying to make the savings last as long as possible.
