I only understood cricket during the Ashes in 05 after nearly 10 years of living in the UK. Then I left the country.
I managed to get hubs into baseball during the '06 playoffs when we (Detroit) played the Yankees. I explained that I hated the Yankees with the same passion that he hates Man U. Everything clicked into place after that.
I really liked listening to Test Match Special while I did the tidying up --
it got me into that zen state that only "How It's Made" on Discovery and the Shipping Forecast have ever got me to.
Ohhh - you do that too??!! It's the only thing that gets me to sleep these days - especially when they are making golf clubs *again*

I grew up around cricket - my mum's local social club is a sports club that she started going to when my dad left - I guess it got her out of the house to have some adult conversation but she could still bring us as kids

My brothers started playing cricket, then she met her partner who played cricket and his sons play cricket too. Mum used to score on a weekend and now she is secretary (on top of being a headteacher - like she hasn't got enough to do

) for the Bristol Youth League

So yeah - I kinda had cricket bred into me from an early age and on a sunny summer's day back home (ok I know they are rare) there is nothing quite like sitting outside with a nice cold pint and watching a 40 over match
