Hello from Charlotte, NC. biggrin.gif

I arrived yesterday afternoon and I have spent today looking at apartment complexes and this one is my favourite so far. http://cheswyckapartments.com/

I have a few more to look at yet before I make a decision and I don't leave here until Saturday so I can take my time somewhat. I have to say that I'm really loving Charlotte so far. I know it's an old cliche but I feel like I 'belong' here much more than I did in Massachusetts.

Anyway, I'm halfway through a bottle of zinfandel so I'm off for a top-up. smile.gif

Hope you are all well. good.gif

Gillian that place looks amazing! I'm glad you're enjoying Charlotte! Any chance of getting a unit there with a guest room so we'll all have a place to crash we come visit? tongue.gif

Oh no - so you found out about all my profits ifrom my cocaine in the cayman islands? I'm gonna have to be more careful.

So I was a little warm with the insurance thing. Though if I'm going to be all psychological about it I'm sure in my dream you represented the visa process and the insurance was anxiety about removing conditions. Yes, that must be it.

Nope, him and Edge live in Killiny. I want to say it is Larry who lives in Howth but don't quote me on that one.

Speaking of Howth, there is a Mexican restaurant there called El Paso. It's the only place in the British Isles I've come across with somewhat authentic Tex-Mex type food...the few others that I've come across are very anglicized (the ones I've seen in Edinburgh and Carlisle).

Why is Lance Armstrong an #######?

John Travolta and Tom Cruise aren't gay. headbonk.gif

There was a bunch of people waiting outside the venue to see if we could meet anyone after the show/lecture. Ashley Judd, though she didn't meet and greet at least smiled and waved to people. When Lance came out, he passed by a little girl who said something like "you are my hero Lance" and he just looked at her and kept on walking. I have no respect for him to this day.

Just because someone eats cherry pie doesn't mean they don't like a sausage roll...terrible analogy but it's all I could come up with! devil.gif rofl.gif no0pb.gif

Congrats to Gareth, and best wishes for his start date.

Waves to Gillian, that place looks fancy!

Just got back from the DMV. God that place is just one long queue. Tom Cruise. I think he was probably gay once, but he seems pretty twisted by Scientology now, same goes for Travolta, and there were reports that Jada Pinkett Smith had a lesbian lover on the side. What is it with these Scientologists!

Tom seems to always be searching for the answer. He was going to be a priest for a while...he even went to a seminary for about a year. Then Scientology got a hold of him and he the way of Jacko sans surgery. Though Tom seems to hide it better there are lots of Travolta gay stories out there...in the gay community it is the biggest secret everyone knows about.

I've heard about Jada Pinkett Smith, but it seems like she keeps that pretty much on the DL too. These guys make the Beckhams look like the Cleavers!

Mexican food in the UK ranges from bad to meh. I found one exception - a place called Mexi-Fresh in Mortlake (SW London) that did a kick-a$$ buritto. and they delivered. It was my lunch every Friday - then they closed for lunch. A very sad day.

There's a great place called Mestizo just north of Warren Street tube station. Real Mexican food, and the freshest corn tortillas I ever had in the UK. I got talking to the owner and bemoaned the lack of real corn tortillas in the shops in London, and the next thing I knew she was pushing about 100 fresh ones on me for about 5 quid.
rkl57
I will have to check that place out next time I am in Londonium.

I had tamales over the weekend out of a taco truck that were so delicious I wondered if I could ever stand to live so far away from great mexican food again.

So far there's been Strictly Come Dancing, Big Brother, Deal or No Deal, the Idol show, America/Britian's got talent... I don't know, there are loads more. And then Ant and Dec themselves!!?! Why why why.

yeah, I unfornately know that it's a recent (2002ish) change in the way that programs by independant producers are licenced to Broadcasters. It used to be that when Noel Edmunds sold Deal or No Deal to Channel 4, unless they had a really special deal, C4 not only owned the acutal episodes, but also the format. The change in the rules means that the independant companies can make extra bucks by selling their crappy formats to the rest of the world, and hence the stupid-show-from-britain phenomenon that we are seeing. I really hope the novelty wears off soon for American audiences
rkl57
