I've got moving fatigue. I'm sick of worrying about it. I just want to go and do it.
charles!
g'morning everyone. hope everyone has a good friday.

Thank goodness it's friday! *sighs and flops over the desk*

My future mother-in-law seems bent on interfering (with the best intentions) with my plans for a quiet and simple wedding ceremony... I have the horrible feeling that this could all spiral out of control if I'm not very careful *sighs* She just can't seem to get her head around the idea that I don't want a lot of fuss.

Mark moves into the new apartment next weekend and is super-stressed with work and organising things... so he's a grumpy wretch to deal with at the moment too.
Poiteen
awww, stay strong Hannah! My family didn't understand at all when I didn't want a big deal made. My sister would call me up and act all sad and hurt. But I am so glad that I stood my ground. Every wedding I have personal contact with starts off manageable and then spirals out of all control.

New apartment... I'm jealous sleep.gif

Tell me about it - Pickfords called through with a quote of £458 based on 36cuft after the £1k fiasco yesterday - so now I am seeing if John Mason can match that...

I just can't wait til it is all over. Not only that but I wanted to get my cat a rabies shot this morning just in case and you think she would come in from outside!? Means that now on Monday (yes - the day I move) I have to go to the bank to close my account (so I get my interest for the month) AND take my cat to the vet - at least by doing that though she will be in her carrier ready for the flight.

And we've just set up the room for our UK reception which is tonight smile.gif

Maven - when will you be passing through Palm Springs again? I'll look out for somewhere nice to eat out or something smile.gif

Not sure... The route may change a little. I'll PM you my cell phone number.

Off in a few minutes. My aunt just stopped by with a homemade chocolate cake for our journey. Yay! First stop: Hagerstown, MD here we come! star_smile.gif

If my mum was there she'd sprinkle some holy water over the car, I'll just wish you a safe journey!

Well, I for one am freaking EXHAUSTED. We set out in about 9 hours. Tonight we went for a long walk and talked and talked about how much we are going to miss it here and all the friends we've made. New Haven is and always will be home for me, but now it's become something of a hometown for Bruce too.

I'll miss you, my beautiful Elm City. sad.gif

Safe travels, Maven.

See you for margaritas in a few weeks! kicking.gif

Oakwood works out at about $2600 per month, so, for that money, we would be better off just staying in a hotel for a week or two, and finding somewhere longer term. Sigh.

Found a place downtown that might be what we're looking for, but seriously considering just getting a normal rental straight away, and just dealing with it.

Which brings me to my next question, what normally happens if you want to move before you're lease is up? I think here, so long as you give adequate notice, it's fine. But in the US??? Do you lose your deposit?

Usually.

I'd get a hotel for a week or 2 - then find a Craigslist sublet if you can.

bummer, thanks though dev, it's good to know!

Poiteen - are you stuck on being in the Los Feliz area initially? Because I think the Marina Del Rey Oakwood is more like $1600 or so (for a studio)

If you have your medical on the same day as the interview and assuming all things being equal, does anyone reckon it's safe to book a flight for 2 weeks after the day of the interview?

We had the medical the day before the interview - you will probably be fine but MAY be cutting it close, as it took us 12 days to get the visa after the interview. For piece of mind, I would probably book one that can be changed.

My husband had his same day too, on a Monday, and the visa/passport arrived the following Tuesday. However, the timing can really vary and summer tends to be pretty slow at the embassy. You might want to wait until you have it in hand, or like Robin suggested, book a ticket that can be changed.

Hmm. OK, cheers for the heads up smile.gif

Woo hoo! We're here at the Super 8 in Hagerstown. Took about 5 hours overall. The air con died at the NY border so I'm going to have it recharged tomorrow morning. Hit a humungous thunderstorm in Pennsylvania, but I was just fine, despite my fears.

Poiteen -- I think dev's idea to motel it then do a sublet makes more sense than renting some place sight unseen. This is such a palaver, isn't it, all this moving?

Jeraly -- scrapblog, hmmm? Interesting. I've been following your shipping woes. Is it sorted yet?

Dev and Robin -- drinkies soon!!! kicking.gif

Pretty much - just have to send off the paperwork to Pickfords - they had quoted me on 60cuft but I told them it was only 36cuft so they re-quoted me smile.gif I will just be glad to get it over with.

Two more sleeps... I am sooooo nervous right now - I know it will all be fine and I am excited and all that blah blah blah but I am cacking myself at the same time.

Reception last night was great - I managed to get back into my dress but it looked a bit shotgun wedding as I have a fat little tummy (all lard, no baby tongue.gif ) I didn't cry saying goodbye to people but there were lots of other people in tears. I did have a few tears during our first dance but it was otherwise all ok.

Going over to my friend's house in a bit - that's going to be a goodbye sad.gif Well - a "see you later" but it will be hard - I just hate all this and can't wait to be on my merry way so I can just get my tears over with and move on.

Oh - and I have a headache from drinking too much wine last night wacko.gif

My husband's an actor -- it was LA or NYC and we'd had enough of winter. None of that winter right now -- we're in Tuscaloosa, AL tonight. It is HOT and sticky, and there was a gigantic thunderstorm this afternoon. The parking lot at the motel flooded! Bruce is next to me, playing the guitar while we watch Cops in air conditioned comfort.

Jeraly -- mega good luck tomorrow! It is pretty surreal on your last night, but at least you have Jeremy with you for the flight. Best of luck and I can't wait to hear your first report about Palm Springs -- I will make sure to let you know if we are passing through on our way to LA. star_smile.gif

I am SO glad it is normal... Although I am not sure that being up at 7am drinking beer is... Had a REALLY heavy night last night - my mum was getting uber upset and I was trying to be calm. I'm ok for the moment - said goodbye to mum which was hard but no tears really - I think I am all cried out. I think it has hit her a lot harder than she was expecting - yesterday really was an emotional D-Day, saying goodbye to my brothers, grandparents... today has been mum (she is going to call me when I am at the airport and I kinda wish she wouldn't - I just want to put the sadness behind me...) and dad is taking me to the station along with mum's other half... I can't wait til that part is over - we have a few more hours... The cat is in ready for me to take her to the vet and I have to go to the bank... I'm not currently too stressed about moving, though I'm sure I will be nearer the time, I'm just sick to death of every conversation I have being about the wedding... it's getting on my nerves, and I'm really wishing we'd just planned to elope instead.
