Mm, gotta love the out-sourcing of helplines.

Man: Your boss, please.
Me: I'm afraid he's out of the office this afternoon.
Man: I CALL REGARDING BT COMPLAINT MUST SPEAK WITH YOUR BOSS.
Me: Um, I'm afraid he really is out of the office this afternoon. He is at a meeting.
Man: He is not in office?
Me: No, he is at a meeting.
Man: Get him to call me. Can I take your name?
Me: Yes, my name is Rachel.
Man: Please repeat.
Me: Rachel.
Man: I'm sorry, how do you spell Rachel.
Me: R-A-C-H-
Man: R-A-E-H-
Me: No, C-H-
Man (interrupting): R-A-E-H-C-H, how do you say name please.
Me (but you just said it!): It's Rachel and it's R-A-C-H-E-L not E-H-
Man (interrupting again): Okay bye.

I don't think I could if I tried!! I would like to be a little less neurotic though - I think I would feel soooo much better... but as for saying everything in my head before I even think? Nah - I don't think that will change... unless I try really hard around important people that I am not allowed to screw up in front of biggrin.gif

Just checked the flight tracker and he is currently over Newfoundland.

His flight gets in a little after 5, so I'll take the 4:25 train to O'Hare and by the time I get there he should be just getting out of baggage claims. We'll then take a cab home from there where I have a laid back dinner of cheese, wine and pate waiting.

Hi all!

Just thought i'd pop in and say hey!

We still haven't got the internet at home yet sad.gif So I can only get online either from the library or my Dad's house.

Things are going well, getting very excited about the wedding! Only 4 and a half weeks to go!

Anyway, my time is about to run out, so I will try and pop in again soon!

Hope everyone is well!!

Will hopefully (Fingers crossed) have the internet by next weekend!

And I thought I was bad...I had a lady comment that I started the queue for the registers at CVS pharmacy "too far up." I told her I could start the queue any place I pleased since at the time I was the only person waiting for a register.

Well, you know, if you start the queue just anywhere there could be anarchy.

I was going to the bus stop, which is right across the street from my house. Am I really expected to go down to the light which would make what is 20 yards away about a half mile walk?

No it was the LAPD in Venice.

CC police gave a co-worker at $80 for jaywalking!

Note to future Angelenos: don't jaywalk when the cops are around

or do any wrong in CC.

I saw a guy (in a Range Rover, no less) stop at a red light on Wilshire in Santa Monica yesterday, wait about 2 minutes, then DRIVE THROUGH IT. I waited till green (DUH) & went. He was a whole 20' in front of me.

I used to like jaywalking biggrin.gif That changed last week when they rushed this lady into the hospital I was at. She was jaywalking cuz she considered it safer than the crosswalk. She even looked both ways. Sadly there was a car going the wrong way in one way street and he didnīt see her, she didnīt see him (she was behind a van or something) and it hit her. And the car was going reeeally slow cuz the driver already knew he was going the wrong way and was just looking for an exit or some parking lot (luckily the cars going the right way stopped cuz of him). Despite the slow speed, she still flew in the air sad.gif So try to be careful blush.gif

Oh my god, I have so much to pack, but I have to go to Seoul on Sunday for a whole week. Bruce is not best pleased to be losing me for the entire week. Not just for my packing powers; he always gets paranoid when I fly. It's a 14 hour flight; I'm taking an Ambien and going to sleep. So if you don't see me around here next week, you'll know why there's radio silence from New Haven.

Hola Charles!
ginger1981
The man hath arrived. No problems going through Dublin immigration, and the plane got in on time. Cab ride was a bit interesting as the cabby started going down the wrong street after I told him how to get to my house from the airport.

Is Chicago the only city where cabbies have no idea where anything is? I think I've read it is required in many cities that you have to know the geography of the city - like the location of every street.

But anything he is settling in...I guess he already has his keyboard out and is messing about on it lol.
StillThePrettiest
oh, SO exciting smile.gif

don't we all love our geeky men biggrin.gif wub.gif

London cabbies are the BEST, bar none... they spend a couple of years doing The Knowledge, which is a fair whack of the city that they have to learn by heart... you see them zipping about on mopeds, with the maps on a perspex folder at the front; they're pretty dedicated biggrin.gif

those in Sydney are pretty dodge though; I think anyone can be a cab driver if they want... I've given a few directions in my time wacko.gif

Same here...I give practically every cab driver in the city directions, even though both places I've lived is just off the main drag on the Northside. Maybe the London cabbies have just spoiled me for life blush.gif

I've given cab drivers directions in every city I've lived, including NYC & London.

Sometimes they don't know the shortest way, or it's a small street or whatever.....
Jeraly
I've given directions to bus drivers - does that count!? laughing.gif

Just got home to discover a car blocking my driveway... A car that is the Mayor's! I had to call his office and tell them it needed to be moved. Great response though -- someone came and moved it within 3 minutes of me putting down the phone.

Morning!

My first post stateside. Activating the K1 in Dublin was nice. Very friendly IO who took me to a wee room. Had to wait 15 mins whilst they got there stuff together. Could hear the woman who was going to deal with my visa, ask some guy how to deal with the K1. Then she asked me into the room, I could hear the guy who was sat at the desk behind her on the phone, giving my case details to someone stateside.

Even got a "Welcome to America" which was nice.

Hope everybody is well.
SMB x2
I'm really warming to this Dublin idea, especially as the flight seems to be about 200 quid cheaper than going direct to Chicago.
NickyMcMillan
The price of the flight was what made me go via Dublin. I paid Ģ248 for the one way ticket via Edinburgh. After that I was looking at Ģ400+

I did consider going to Chicago via JFK for the EAD. Cheapest I found was Ģ600. Not worth it for something that's not guaranteed.
Jeraly
JFK tends to be pretty much guaranteed but I would go for the cheaper flights and nice welcome biggrin.gif
Poiteen
I'm going to be flying from Shannon, I was kinda paranoid that they'd mess up processing me, but I suppose it's worth the risk. Since i'm going to be in Ireland anyway, saying goodbye to my family it's much cheaper to go from there.

Honestly if I got British type holiday benefits at my work I would take the day off! However, with a trip back to Nebraska to see my family and a trip to the UK so far this year, I'm not left with much vacation time...I have 2 allotted already for the days coming up to our wedding, and then basically 1.5 days of vacation left until next year.

I really hope I don't get sick either as I don't have much sick leave! unsure.gif
