Been nice in Bristol too biggrin.gif

As for puters - I am taking my hard drive with me - I've always been fine with it before so not sure if this will cause any problems?

I pulled my back Sunday - putting in a 60 lb AC. (I did think I used my knees, but no) The doc says I am having back spasms. So I sit here at work, heating pad behind me & on some relaxers that make me nauseous & yet not pain free. dead.gif

How's your back, Dev? I did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago. It was excruciating. Don't know if you're into Chiropractors or not but that's what I did. I was repaired in no time. kicking.gif

I am suffering from terrible insomnia these days. I was up at 2:30 this morning and could not get back to sleep. At least that meant I could go to the gym for 2 hours before work.

I was having a terrible time with insomnia. Finally took some Melatonin and I've been sleeping like a baby ever since. *knocks on wood* I'm also going to be trying it for the first time when I fly to the UK in July. I'm terrible with jetlag, so I always have to book a flight at least 3 days before an event so I can appear human as opposed to catatonic.

Morning all biggrin.gif

Just thought i'd pop in and say that I got here safely. My POE was completely painless, all over within about 5 minutes!! The first guy at immigration even laughed and joked about the effects of marriage on his hairline tongue.gif Secondary inspection was literally a 5 second ordeal ohmy.gif All he said was, 'you know you have 90 days to get married, right?' I said yes, and he said well, congratulations! You can go now! biggrin.gif

Our apartment is reallllly nice! Needs a bit of cleaning, I had all the windows off yesterday laughing.gif I am settling into domesticated life rather well... I even shocked myself laughing.gif

I am in a state of shock that I have my very own American front door key and weiss card laughing.gif laughing.gif

Oh oh oh! AND I am now 'officially' engaged biggrin.gif We were in our back yard the day before yesterday and Chris dropped down on one knee (Under a BIG cherry tree!) and gave me the most beautiful ring!

We are at my Dad's at the moment going through wedding plans etc!!

Argh! So excited!!!

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Will try and pop on later.

Speak soon! xxx

Wow! How exciting Tasha! Welcome! kicking.gif

But now you've got me wondering because you said your Dad is here in the US? I recall responding to a question posted by a Dad about his daughter back in the UK. Is he the same person?

So the weather is lovely, but I'm really tired now, cos i've been in and out of the sun all day. And I've just remembered that if I spend too long in the sun I start to get a headache. Am I a dummy moving to LA????

I did manage to survive Hong Kong for 2 months, and really enjoyed it, I can't remember now if I just stayed in more, or if I got used to it. wacko.gif

I've been asking myself the same question recently...along with why does it cost more money to ship the same amount of cr@p across the country than to put it on a frickin' BOAT and sail overseas and then have to still go on the road from Philly to CT? Huh? Huh? New Haven to LA is a shorter distance than London to New Haven, and yet all the quotes I've received so far are at least twice what I spent with Excess Baggage to get the stuff over here in the first place.

Wake me up when I'm in Los Angeles -- I'm taking that Xanax now with a chaser of Tylenol PM.
Poiteen
hahha, and I was waiting for a good opportunity to say that I like your new ticker!!! laughing.gif

Well you've made one decision for me, I'm storing the stuff till we get an address in LA, the other option was to send it to my OH's mum's place in Miami, and then send it one when we have an address there.

I suppose I'm just getting ancy. Or onerey (sp? sorry StP!)

P.S. Maven, is this maybe just the stress of your presentation coming out in other ways? blush.gif *hugs*
rkl57
We are going through our annual "may grey" which will be followed by the "june gloom" so no sunshine for us here in not-so-sunny LA these past few day!.

One of the advantages of living in a place with near constant sunshine is that you don't feel guilty if you stay in and veg in front of the television when you have a nice day, because there will be another nice day soon and you don't have to "make the most of a nice day"
Poiteen
Yeah that will be nice star_smile.gif I've always been more of a doing things at home person than a mountain biking / hiking / sports playing person. I like a little bit, but I always feel guilty staying in during the summer star_smile.gif not anymore wink.gif

tongue.gif Of course I'm going, neighbour. I'm just being a hater right now.

The paper is going pretty well -- I've been given an extra week, which is a total lifeline. I've written 3 of the 5 sections now, then I have to do a list of recommendations which flow from the discussion. However, I've already started having nightmares about the conference. Last night I dreamed that two cars plowed into the lecture hall while I was speaking and ran over all these people... it was a bit gory. blush.gif Bruce has said he'll help me get ready for it, but I am not expecting I will be awesome.
Poiteen
Bruce can totally help you with it, actors always know brilliant breathing excercises etc.

Sounds like your on the way though!! star_smile.gif
rkl57
maven - your dream sounds like the one I have in moments of high stress where I dream that I failed high school. Sometimes I wake up and remind myself, yes I graduated high school, got into a good college and have a good job.

Nothing terrifies me more than public speaking. I took a course that was meant to improve it and the ladies teaching were so brutal in their assesment (apparently I disengage with my audience and am very cold) that I'm sure it only made it worse.
elmcitymaven
Robin -- it's TOTALLY one of those dreams. File under: remaining high school anxieties.

What's odd is that I am actually not too bad at giving interviews -- I did some media training last year (for some bizarre reason, held in a box at the Newcastle United football ground??? blink.gif ) and I was really shocked at how easily I could handle radio and TV interviews. I still couldn't bring myself to watch the video of my efforts though... the video is in a box in the basement and if we ever own a VCR again I am taping over it. I sound fluent but I hate looking at myself on screen.
rkl57
I did the video at this class - I can't bear to look at myself but even worse is the sound of my voice. I hate it - it's not the same one I hear every day surely? How can it sound so different on tape?
Poiteen
When you coming over dev? Bet I'll see you sneaking in to the John Snow!!

I've never really been that fazed by public speaking, but hearing my own voice back Eugggghhh!! tongue.gif
elmcitymaven
I sometime wish there was a function on VJ that would automatically direct you to the most outrageously idiotic questions across all the boards. It would save me a lot of time looking for them -- there are SO many sub-fora I never look at and I just KNOW there are some doozies in there... devil.gif

(*runs and hides*)
rkl57
I'm coming today - leave for the airport in about half hour. Since the john snow is on the way from the office to the hotel, who can say what I might do?

maven - i don't know that you have to go looking to hard for those questions sometimes! (though I'm sure I asked a few of my own back in the day, TBH)
elmcitymaven

I know, but I'm trying to write this paper and I need to maximise my VJ time.

Best presentation I ever did was with a friend - we were able to put it together as a moviemaker/powerpoint that was allowed no interaction - it just had to play. HELLO. Popping on to say hello. It's so hard keeping up to date with everything when I only online 2-3 days a week for 30mins if that.

Nick's eldest sister graduates high school this weekend so been lots of planning and stuff for that. It's only 3 and half weeks to wedding but not paniking too much as think most stuff is in order. Scary thing is that if we had gone with original plan wedding would have been Saturday just past.

Still no sign of us getting internet in the appartment and I miss it so bad. Anyways better dash, lunch time. Take care all.

When you get here and watch the news stations you will realize just how small America is. Judging by KOIN News 6 it lies somewhere between the Cascade mountains and the Pacific ocean. Nothing happens outside that area and I'm beginning to think the world is flat and you fall off if you reach those points. I only know Idaho exists because I saw it on a map once blink.gif

Great to hear how people are getting on in the US! biggrin.gif

I think most people hate the sound of their voice/hate seeing themselves on film. We all sound different in our heads and it can be hard to equate what we hear with that. Morning! Bruce lost his phone last night -- have stopped service but now have to call the phone company to organise a replacement. I can't quite believe it but in a fit of madness I apparently bought insurance for the phone -- totally unlike me.

oh my god. I just made a decision. Talked it over with my lovely boy this morning, and we've decided to finish up work here in July and move over late July/beginning of August.

kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

That may not seem like a big thing, since on my sig it says that we're moving in August anyway, but for the last while it's looked further and further out of reach. My project is now so far behind schedule, I was originally supposed to finish my contract in the next few weeks, but the project will now run till at least October. I haven't told them at work yet, and won't for at least another month, but I'm soooooo excited now.

How exciting about the house -- hope it's good news. I remember when I bought my flat in London and I was freaking out until the news came. I still miss that little flat, even though it had some not so good memories as a "former marital home". I was grateful for the nest egg it produced after its sale -- couldn't have financed any of these transatlantic/transcontinental moves without it.
