My husband absolutely refuses to say toMAYdo

Every time in a restaurant

him: can I have the toMATo soup
waitress: you mean the toMAYdo soup
him (in his most tarquinesque voice): no I meant the toMATo soup

Poiteen
wow they actually correct him laughing.gif

I know I'm beligerant but if someone pronounces something different, and I know what they mean, well, it's just rude to make them say it your way yes.gif

it's funny cos I say 'ye' for you plural sometimes - It's an Irish thing- so I can sometimes pick up on y'all from my Texan MIL, but those spellings, no no no. laughing.gif

hey now.. no making fun of those of us in Texas!! (granted i make fun of them all the time hehe) I feel so bad for Kris on spelling though. I'm used to it when he emails me and tend to not even pay attention to the differences but any employer will whistling.gif

Maven... sorry about the food illness.. that sucks!!! Now if only my toothache would go away.

Aly... 8/8/08 nice date! I like it. As for Craigslist... its so addicting at times but so easy to find good deals.

But this wait is going to drive me insane... least Kris' medical is next week and I got good news today. My editor offered a contract for another one of my books! kicking.gif kicking.gif

I'm exactly the same. I don't mind changing the words that I used such as saying gas instead of petrol and trunk instead of boot but I can't bring myself to pronounce anything differently - it sounds so weird and fake.

I have the most trouble making myself understood when I ask for water, but no matter how much I wish I could I can't bring myself to pronounce it 'wadder'. laughing.gif

oh, I am SO with you there wacko.gif

I think I'm going to have trouble switching words - not because I won't remember, just because I don't want to laughing.gif - but switching pronunciations or spelling? you can forget it tongue.gif

ohmy.gif Sorry to hear about the food poisoning Maven! rose.gif

The house that you are putting a bid on Julez, is it the one that you posted the link of a few weeks ago?

No. Its a different one! We are now looking seriously at this house:

http://hfe.buffaloniagarahomes.com/propert...property_type=1

Its a bit smaller than the other one, but the price, taxes and location are better, plus it doesn't need extensive renovations.

We have contacted a few builders to get estimates on extending the kitchen, so if we can get the right price on that we'll make a bid.
Toshtishtash

I hope it works out for you. luv.gif

Both of them look like movie sets to me, I've only ever seen houses of that style and size in US TV or in movies. We have very different architecture over here yes.gif

Oh no kidding on the decor, though! What the heck were they thinking???? The living room is a bit odd too, since the green walls have gold paint ragged on top of it producing an interesting effect! blink.gif Thankfully its just paint and can be covered easily with something infinitely more tasteful!

Brings back fond memories of when I was house-hunting. I mean, seriously, people. What the heck were you thinking? There was this one house that just made us stand there with our mouths open, gaping in wonder and amazement. (Right before we fell on the floor laughing, that is.) The master bedroom had an open-concept bathroom in it. So there was this hideous black and gold-plated room-type area, all mirrors and lights, with a huge walkup sunken bathtub (seriously... it took 3 steps to get up to it) in centre-stage. All I could think of was Elvis and porn movies. It was that bad. laughing.gif

I watched the Beatles movie Help! a while ago and one of the cutest things was the beginning when they walk up to 4 side-by-side terraced houses and go in. The neighbours think that they're good lads, still living in terraced houses despite their fame.

When they go in all the houses are knocked through to one massive room. Paul, George and Ringo have their single beds but Johns bed is sunken in the floor. A modern 60's architectural wonder star_smile.gif

But,

My Step Dads car got broken into last night sad.gif So did 4 others in the street. They actually cut through the alarms, ripped out his stereo (But left it behind...) took a bag of tools and my 2 bags of rubbish out of the boot ( laughing.gif ) The locks and electrics are screwed big time and there is a massive scratch on the bonnet. They are coming to take it away at 12 and deliver him a courtesy car... The thing is though, my Mums car was also on the driveway UNLOCKED but they didnt take anything!
Krikit
Aww. That is horrible that someone broke into your stepdad's car. sad.gif

My car was broken into once. Nothing was missing from it (because I don't keep anything in there). But I could tell that it had been broken into because the glove compartment was open and all the car documents had been disturbed. Oh. And there was a £10 note left on the seat. Which wasn't mine. And this was in Canada. blink.gif I called the police to report the crime(?). "Yes, hello. This is Gilly G ..... I would like to make a complaint. Someone has broken into my vehicle and left me money." I mean, seriously. It was surreal. I actually wanted to know if anyone's car had been broken into and they had lost money so it could be returned to them. I asked my next door neighbours, because they were from the UK too, but it wasn't theirs. Anyway, I got to keep the cash and the police had a good laugh. laughing.gif
