Well, what a difference a day makes! No, not all our problems are solved, but just an evening minus the drama really changes the face of things! Like in the movie "What About Bob?" it's the baby steps that add up!

Thanks everyone for your support and cute, or scary, kitty pics! You guys really lifted my spirits!

Hello all. Making a wee visit whilst I can.

Most of the stuff for the wedding sorted now so I'm having more time to sit and think about stuff I miss so having a few homesick moments but Nick's mammy is being such a big support to me. She is amazing.

Nick played improv guitar at a local bar last night. He is an amazing guitarist but has really bad nerves and no belief in himself. It's the first time he has played for a decent sized audience of total strangers. He did so well and had people going up to him and complimenting him and buying him drinks (he doesn't even drink, lol). I'm so proud of him. He was originally only supposed to play 30mins but they kept him going and kept telling him to turn up for over an hour. It has done so much for his confidence. I've bought him a cookie cake that says "you are a star" for when he gets off work.

Oh..one more thing....I have discovered hayfever season starts earlier here and it appears that I'm allergic to Nebraska! So if any Nebraskans know where I can get some Honey made in Nebraska I'd appriciate a wee message. Before I sneeze myself inside out.

Debz, are you saying that if you eat local honey you can build up your resistance to whatever you're allergic to in your area?

Great idea about YouTube! I'd love to see him play and while I have every intention of visiting Nebraska armed with a gallon of Zinfandel, in the meantime I will need some substitute biggrin.gif

I think re the honey she just likes to buy local/natural etc but I never thought about it having any effect on hayfever - you think it would?
weedebz
if you eat honey made in the local area it contains elements of the local pollen so helps build a natural resistance to the allergens. Works kind of the same way as a virus vaccine. You get a wee bit of it that helps you fight it off.

It really works and doesn't make you drowsy like most allergy meds

You have the right attitude though - like you say, if it wasn't meant to be, it wasn't meant to be.

A little smaller and updated says cheaper bills and less time spent cleaning to me!

Exactly! And its still a bit larger than our current house. Plus, the grounds at this other house are nicer. Beautiful garden just waiting for my green thumb! I can't wait to see the inside, aside from the pics online, that is! biggrin.gif

Hi all! Wow, I feel like I have been away for approximately, hmmmm, FOREVER but now I am back in the Elm City. I've been feverishly catching up on all the posts but I've still got a ways to go. And yes, most importantly, I bought my duvet! http://www.johnlewis.com/2350/Product.aspx For some reason they're not showing the weight I bought (2.5 tog, perfect for California) but this is a beaut.

To bee (couldn't let that pun go) fair, there really isn't much of a bee keeping industry here. As the weather gets warmer you might want to go to craft fairs and farmers markets to see if there is a beekeeping hobbyist that is selling their product. Also, some craft stores might sell honey too...there is a local brand of jam called Grandma's and they had a line of honey a long time ago, but I don't know if they still sell the honey.

Just got back from the doctor's -- I have an infected earlobe. (For those who met me last week, that's why I kept the left side of my head covered as much as possible with my hair!) I agree with Tash -- never too cheeky! And Poiteen -- the silk duvets were honestly not that great, in my opinion. A little too insubstantial for snuggling purposes.

It was neither -- I tried them all on Wednesday morning. It felt a bit floppy and bleh, not much to it. I initially thought I would get the silk one, thinking it would be lightweight enough for LA. I liked the Hungarian Goose best in the end, as it was really, really lightweight (2.5 tog is below the normal summerweight ones) but still had that indefinable snuggle factor to it. The silk one didn't feel as comfy. I'm sure it is great, but it didn't check all my boxes. Actually, neither did the Hungarian Goose one -- the Siberian Goose one is the absolute BOMB but it costs accordingly. I used to have one (back when I was married to the rich solicitor) and man, I wish I had held out for that in the divorce.

managed to find honey that's made in the same zipcode I live in so got it 2 days ago. Allergy symptoms already getting better.

I'm going to compile a natural remedy database so if anyone has any ailments they want me to include let me know. Remember I am not a Dr. I just come from a family who for many many generations has not had total trust in "western' modern medicine espeially when it comes to handing out drugs that has a list of side effects longer than what it treats (even more so when fairly often one of those side effects is death!) I personally haven't taken a painkiller for over 15 years. Not bad for someone who suffers from migranes and bad period cramp.

Can't wait to see your database, Debz!

I've been away from VJ for a couple of days. My uncle passed and I just didn't feel like chatting. I was hoping to see him one last time this summer when we'll be in England. sad.gif My aunt died, suddenly, last year and he just lost the will to live. In fact, he passed on the anniversary of her funeral.

Anyway, my cousin is having her breast reconstructed today. She's a breast cancer survivor. It's going to be a long day because she's scheduled to be in surgery for 8.5 hours. Story here. And I've got the painters coming in an hour to do the kitchen, living room and dining room so I guess I'd better get a move on and get ready!

Ciao.

Hope you are all enjoying your Wednesday!
