My husband's SS Card says "For work only". He has received his EAD Card. Is he now able to receive a card that does not say this? If not, will he be able to when he receives his Green Card? And, does it matter?

Once he has been approved for his greencard you can return to the SSA office and get a new card without the "Authorized for work" on it....

It makes life easier if he has the tag removed once he has his green card. If he changes employers then all he would need to present is his DL and SS card (sans tag).

Yep. After the Green card arrives, he can go back to the Social Security office and have a new one issued.

DO NOT DO NOT give up the old card until you have the new one. You don't have to give it up no matter what they say.

2. Card Returned With Request For Replacement Card or New SSN

If the applicant has a card and requests a replacement card (duplicate or corrected) or a new SSN:

-- Ask the applicant to return the old SSN card. (If the applicant does not have the card with him or her, remind the applicant to return the old card to SSA for destruction or to keep the old card in a secure place [not in a wallet or purse]).

NOTE: Do not forcefully confiscate the SSN card if the applicant refuses to relinquish it. Similarly, return the old SSN card if the applicant requests that it be given back.
