Hi ya new to this forum but just want if anyone can help. I have been told by one of the staff during my interview that when I do arrive in the US I must tell the officer that I am to be entered as an IR-1. I was told this is to do with getting my social security etc. Now it was added I will be filling out forms etc. So what I wan to know is how soon do I recieve social security + green card as I will be entering the US after 2 years of my marriage to my husband?

Await some help and advice Thank you

If you do a search you will find many posts about the time lines people have received their SSN and greencards! I received my Green card about 3 weeks after entry. SSN card didnt arrive, and after about a month I went to the office and reapplied, came in the mail a week later. Best of luck

what it was when we had our interview in london we were close to our 2nd year anniversary and the guy said that in the next two weeks my 2nd year has pass and that mean when I leave for the states I shoud inform the officer to enter as IR-1 even though at the time of the interview our second year was not due. So hope this makes sense My husband has been living in Britain for the 3 years. Got married in the states 2 years ago and only last several months we considered to move back to his home. So just followed all application required and now I am waiting to recieve my Visa via courier. Then I will leave here to California.

mabuhaycapoeira,

No, it doesn't make sense nor does it answer the question that germangel asked.

Was your interview for an immigrant visa or for a K3 non-immigrant visa? Your personal information says that you're applying for a K3 visa. If that is the case, you will be entering the USA as K3, not as IR-1.

Did your plans or situation change and you ended up applying for the immigrant visa instead of the K3 visa?

didn't mean to sound rude. Just wanted to make sure I got it straight as your info said K3 and this is K3 forum.
If your visa is CR1 and 2 years have passed, then yes, it'll probably be transformed into IR1 at POE.

K3 is a non-immigrant visa which needs adjustment of status or the completion of CR1/IR1 for non-USC to become Permanent resident alien.

I am sorry if my question come off as rude, I simply wanted to clarify so you are not misinformed!!

Not to worry this whole visa can be emotionally draining and this website alone cover many scenarios. The one I found a bit hash was the person after you first ask the quetion. You were fine with the question. The other person seems like I was on a multiply question or something ...........Haha..........

mabuhaycapoeira,

No, a K3 visa is not the same thing as an immigrant visa as germangel has subsequently explained.

It appears that you have applied for an immigrant visa, not a K3, but it might be good for you to confirm that so you can be sure of what you're doing and where you stand.
