Went to DMV with the new EAD and SSN and applied for a DL. They took the application, issued a temporary license (just a piece of paper, no picture) and said the real license would be mailed after they got some sort of approval/verification from immigration. Anyone heard of this before? Seems to me the EAD constitutes USCIS approval. As far as I can tell, there's no way of tracking progress on this, and they had no guidance on how long this might take.

Yes the DMV can and does file a request for verification of immigrations status to the USCIS, this uses the same SAVE system that SSA uses to verify.

Well, SSA was able to give out the SSN the day after application, so I gues we can only hope DMV doesn't take any longer for the verification.

Zzzonzo, Congrats on your EAD, SSN and DL!!!
Does anyone know for how long the drivers license and ssn are valid? I will get my EAD within the next couple of days and was thinking about getting my drivers license asap but I have my interview in 1,5 months. Will I have to get a new one after approval? Is it better to wait and do it all when/if I get the green card?
Did I mention I'm lazy?

Yes, they verify your status with the USCIS and the license will be issued for the same length of time the EAD is.
