Scott and Marta
Alright, I just quickly made some search and here is some of the stuff I found:

Registration of your Civil Wedding Abroad

United Kingdom

You cannot register your civil wedding abroad at a registry office but you can apply to have an original or a certified copy of your marriage documents sent from the consul of the district where your wedding took place to the General Register Office. Note: if your marriage certificate needs to be translated, translations must also be sent along with your certificate.

In order to do this, one of you must be a British Citizen and the original document cannot be released after it has been deposited.

Once your documents have been deposited with the General Register Office they can issue you with certified copies of your marriage certificate which will save you from having to contact the overseas authority each time you require a copy.

For further information you can contact:

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Consular Division
King Charles Street

I found it here

Hope itīs useful smile.gif

I don't wish to stir the pot (all right, I do tongue.gif ), but in what manner is a pizza a pie? surely a pie has SOME sort of cover, generally pastry, but sometimes potato (shepherd's), and sometimes meringue (lemon meringue)?

*pedant since '72*

cool.gif
Jeraly
Ahhh - not necessarily as in lemon meringue pie... See... now if you are talking about sweet pies... those are better than savoury... although I prefer cheesecake laughing.gif

@babbles - gratzies again!! I can't wait to read the review... I am still hunting for it laughing.gif

@Marta - thanks - that is really helpful! I've bookmarked it so I can check it out once we have the paperwork filled in laughing.gif

I wish I could cite a source, but I remember back in high school learning that the term "pizza pie" was coined in New York because of the way it was cut into slices like a pie. This is unlike Chicago style and (if memory serves) Italian style, where the pizza is simply cut into squares.

Of course not all pies are covered. I think the term pie is used because of the bottom crust or layer that acts as a mold to keep everything together. Whether that's toppings, pie filling or whatever. Pecan pie has no top. Pumpkin pie has no top. So, are they not pies? I think most everything that is made round and cut into wedge slices can be considered a pie. Just my thoughts. smile.gif

I recently watched a program on the history of pizza on the History Ch. And it went back hundreds of years and they never said pizza was cut into squares. All pizzas were cut into wedges. And some were even made smaller and simply folded over or rolled and eaten like a burrito. But yes, the first time pizza was called a "pie" was in a New York pizzeria.
StillThePrettiest
I take your point about pecan and so on, Jason - even without pointing out that I WAS mainly being tongue-in-cheek, it's a good point wink.gif

however, I still don't think pizza fits into that definition - the dough is a BASE, and doesn't come up the sides, like all other pies, and the toppings all sit on TOP... if you need to, you can make pizza on a flat tray, and it will still come out alright; you can't say the same thing about pumpkin pie and whatnot wink.gif

Ladies and gentlemen...VJ's first ever PIE CONTROVERSY! biggrin.gif

Man...even controversy is better with pie!

Hi everyone. We have visa in hand and are flying in a few hours to Las Vegas. Finally we will both be at home in the USA. Next the AOS hurdles. Somehow i am much more patient and calmer on those hurdles. I think it will be much easier doing them being together and living instead of being apart and on hold. I hope all the july filers we started with are close to uniting as well.

Listen people, the debate is over. Scott says during our chat:
pizza is a pie.
...
there's no question about it.
...
it's technically called pizza pie.

So really, people, there's the offical word.

wink.gif

And congrats Chris & Gretchen. biggrin.gif

Hahaha. blush.gif I didn't mean to sound so serious. I'm sorry. But, hey, haven't you ever had a deep dish pizza? This is most certainly a pie. And the dough used for a pizza and a pie are basically the same. But I do see what you mean. So, who knows? maybe we're all wrong. laughing.gif But its a fun topic anyway.

Pizza is an Italian meal...and they donīt call it a pie tongue.gif
Scott and Marta
And I also dare to say....the dough is different tongue.gif

OK Iīm trying to imagine the dough on my tongue and what my imagination comes up with is...pizza dough doesnīt melt on the tongue at all while pie dough might biggrin.gif

Next time I am around those two I think I should try it tongue.gif
StillThePrettiest
I think we should all listen to Marta; she knows what she's talking about biggrin.gif

(I agree actually - the Italian thing is the clincher, but the dough is markedly different... a quiche isn't a pie, and it ticks more boxes than pizza does wink.gif
is it a sweet/savoury distinction?)

ETA: of course not; shepherd's pie, meat pie... momentary lapse wink.gif

AHHH!! If you go to the K-1 spreadsheet there are little tabs at the bottom - one says K-1 and the other says AOS smile.gif If you click on the AOS one you can see the stats as I have them at the moment smile.gif I'll change it over so you can see that one first when the K-1 sheet is finished biggrin.gif Or at least close to finished smile.gif

completely random rant:

a FILLER is a completely different thing tongue.gif

thank you for your time tongue.gif wink.gif

Unless of course you are filing physical files in a filing cabinet... in which case you may be considered to be a FILLER of aforementioned cabinet, while still being a FILER laughing.gif

Just stopping through so Jeraly can update the AOS spreadsheet! We mailed AOS March 4th, it was received in Chicago March 6th, the cashed our check March 10th and we received NOA's for all of the AOS, EAD, and AP dated March 11th! Just waiting on Biometrics appt now which many March filers are already getting!!! YAY!!!!

And I just have to say I was catching up on the thread and the pizza pie, and pie-hole comments made me laugh so hard I snorted....in public whistling.gif thanks
Scott and Marta

Jeraly
Sara - have updated you on the AOS sheet biggrin.gif Yippee!! I love our spreadsheet!! Does that make me really sad!?!?

wow... they actually stopped the interview? That's kind of amazing. But you know, maybe it was a good thing. I mean, better than getting this job that you want really badly and then finding out they expect you to work your holidays and weekends, right? In a way, it's kind of better for them to be that honest up front.

Aww hun sad.gif Just think - if you wanted the job *that* badly then you would have worked holidays and weekends. I think it is just something they do there - you have to say you will do it so they can write it into the contract and stiff you but it doesn't necessarily mean you would be... of course I might be wrong tongue.gif

Just think - I Know you really want a job right now but at least you can take the time for it to be one you will actually really like smile.gif You'll get there smile.gif *hugs*

Jundp - gratzies on the interview date! Have updated the spreadsheet - do you have a medical date? Then all I will need is your POE info when you know it biggrin.gif

Hey guys, just checking in here. I found out this morning that our file was delivered to the embassy in Montreal this week Monday. I'm so relieved. For a while I thought it was lost. I was doing the DHL tracking thing and for some moronic reason it took a detour through Toronto (none of the other Montreal's have done that...I checked lol). Now just waiting on packet 3. Sheesh this is taking forever!

Sorry to hear about your interview TusconChick. Where I work people are asked to be willing to work weekends but it's never really required. Never heard of an interview being stopped cold like that though. That's really weird but probably a good thing. Just keep your chin up and the next one will go better.

Jeraly, just noticed your wedding date! love it...8/8/08! I was hoping for 6/7/08 but that's a slim possibility now. Any date is going to be just fine with me as long as he is here heart.gif

Has Audrey been around this thread? I haven't had a chance to catch up on my reading and my computer is going super slow today.
tucson_chick

well - i asked how often i would have to work weekends and holidays, because i was wondering if it was only an occasional thing. turns out, it would be EVERY weekend and holiday.
damn it.

Sounds like you were applying for a restaurant job. or even a hotel/resort job. I work in a nice restaurant, and fortunately we have a large enough staff that we dont have to work holidays if we choose. However, it tends to be great opportunities to make some serious cash. So, I'm slut for holiday pay. laughing.gif
