Wow...yogurt. That's pretty cool. I do believe my work here is done. good.gif

Speaking of work - what do you do for a living?

By day I'm a systems engineer. I maintain clusters of computers that crunch satellite data into usable weather data. By night...I'm Batman. Well...I'm Batman6278 in the Bratz chatroom...

I knew it - I knew you were Batman. LOL

Sounds interesting - I mean being Batman and all. Ha ha

No systems engineering sounds like fun too. What is your OH going to do when she gets here? Any ideas?

Finally some respect. You tell people you're Batman and they just look at you funny. Thank you. Thank you for your validation.

Nadya works as a nurse, but their programs are structured much differently than ours. She'd have to re-do about 2-3 years of college to be certified here, and she doesn't really enjoy nursing much anyway, so I doubt she'll do that. So the plan right now is...pretty much nothing. smile.gif I'm just going to let her get here and settle in, maybe do some volunteer work somewhere or something. I think whatever she winds up doing will find her.

I know about nursing here in the US. I actually quit nursing about 10 years ago just because of the politics of it all. When I went back to school to be a Registered Nurse, I was quite happy to specialize in the nursing home field. Well, as you know, insurance costs and hospital stays are very expensive and nursing homes have become alternative solutions for recovery. So, the profession that I chose turned into something completely different. I was no longer happy in my career because I no longer just took care of old people who wanted to die with digity - I was taking care of car accident victims and cancer patients. This is not what I wanted and strictly "nursing home" care is almost unheard of today - in our immediate area anyway - so I gave it up.

She may be happy in a hospice situation - there is a big demand for that. I have also heard that nurses will soon be in such demand that they will be paid on a much higher scale. We'll see. Anyway, whatever she decides to do will be just great and I'm sure with you - she will be happy just to be with you.

I think with her it's just a matter of not really being interested in the field at all. Except for the bigger cities like Moscow and St. Pete where it's changing, women who want to pursue careers are expected to either become teachers or nurses. In fact the Russian word for nurse ("myedsiestra") translates literally to "Medical Sister." Nadya chose nursing but it was really a coin toss. She'd be much happier doing something else, but as she's not really ever had the opportunity to explore different careers she doesn't really know what she wants to do. She doesn't think her English is good enough (it is though), but I'm going to try to get her to take some classes at our community college. That might pique her interest in something.

Yeah - I am going to try and volunteer in an elementary school when I get out there. I'd like to do a course in jewellery design or silver smithing or something a bit different and then maybe babysit on the side until I get EAD smile.gif

Jeraly
my lany - you can check out the "Your Wedding" thread in this forum for some ideas - everyone is totally different - I am going to have my non-legal wedding which will be our main ceremony, a UK party (evening reception with first dance and me in my dress again) and then a small legal wedding when I move biggrin.gif

regarding underwear....I'm of the opinion a girl can never have too much, my drawer unit disagrees as it groans under the weight. I'm using the move as a chance to have a ruthless clearout. My mammy helping and she is the kinda of person that is ruthless, I have a feeling with my wardrobe a few friends and the local charity shops going to do quite well.

anyways......flights booked. 12th march.

Glasgow - Dublin
Dublin - Chicago
Chicago - Omaha

return flight (return date 26th march which obviously not being used) booked through American Airlines for only (are you ready for this) £425. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that, it's the cheapest flights I've ever had!!!!!!!!!! Means I can top up my American Airmiles too. Should have enough for a free trip after this one.

Omaha is the cheapest and easiest airport to fly into in Nebraska. Nick and his mammy coming to pick me up. Would be really good to meet up though I don't think I'll be awake by the time I get there at 6.30pm after leaving here almost 20hrs earlier!

Aw, Aly, you KNOW everything will be ok. You are Jeremy are in love yes? Destiny, kismet, all like that, yes? All will be well. Here are some random movie quotes floating around in my head right now and which are somewhat appropriate (bonus points if you can pick the movies without cheating):

Death cannot stop true love - all it can do is delay it for awhile.

You will never know love unless you surrender to it.

I don't understand a God who would let us meet, if we could never be together.

Every now and then everybody is entitled to too much perfection.

My twin brother and I used to quiz each other on that first movie. Here's one I stumped him with: what time of year is it in the 'real world', when Peter Falk reads the book to Fred Savage?

Oh SNAP, that's a good one. Now I feel like a poser.

Jeez...I think he took off his coat, implying fall or winter. Gah! Okay I'm gonna have to think about this.

I bet StP knows the answer. She just *knows* stuff. It freaks me out quite frankly.

I am like the lamest movie person ever biggrin.gif I can barely remember if I have seen a movie let alone what lines are in it!! laughing.gif

@ Gillian - I did the drinking lots of red wine last night... figure if I want to be worth anything tomorrow I should stick to my sleepytime tea and honey like Dr Mox suggested tongue.gif

I am thinking that when Jeremy gets to work I will go finish packing anything I might need to take with me, have a bath, eat some pancakes (didn't have them yesterday) then get into bed early and watch red dwarf... of course it means I'll have to start out on season one again but tongue.gif
mox
Dang Kevin, you're killing me.

The video game was baseball, so I can clearly not choose winter. But he was wearing a coat, so I can clearly not choose summer!

Aly...my turn to say it..." YOU'LL BE FINE". If I can come through interview almost mentally intact, you can do this. I'm the queen of stress and don't worry, I'll be stressing with you and for you as you go through immigration. I'm looking forward to seeing the wedding pics.

I want a full report on the dublin immigration stuff by the way.
Jeraly
Ah you'll get it - I just hope it is a good report! Might be worth posting somewhere for anyone else using Dublin for POE during this crazy process... I just have a monster headache, feel exhausted beyond belief and just can't wait to get immigration behind me so I can panic about the wedding in peace!!!
KGSodie
Yes, Peter Falk did enter wearing a coat. Another trivia question I have is what the score is in the baseball game, but we'll not go there. The baseball game is a red herring however.

KGSodie
Boy, Debz and Aly go out of town and it gets dead around here! We all miss you guys!

Kirk: It is Christmas time, from all the available evidence: Fred has a cold, Peter has the coat, and most tellingly on the wall in the background of several of the shots is a Santa Claus. A little trivia about this movie (if you haven't seen the special features on any of the several DVD releases, or listened to the commentary. The final shot, where Peter Falk as the Grandfather is leaving, and Fred Savage says "You can come back again tomorrow and read it to me - if you want" and Peter, as he is putting on his hat, says "As you wish", was added long after filming had been completed. During the editing, the ending didn't feel complete to Rob Reiner, so they added this scene. The set had been cleared, so they reconstructed a small portion in order to film this final scene. For me, it was the perfect ending and a wonderful bookend to the beginning of the movie, where Farm Boy only said "As you wish" to his true love, Buttercup.

So what is everyone's plan, after they receive their visas? I know some people are waiting before they leave for various reasons, and others (like Natasha and I) are planning to leave right away.

Cheers!
