Now, I wonder who that might be aimed at??? laughing.gif tongue.gif

truth be told, no one in particular... I've seen it said by a number of people, and while I can remember a few names, I just thought it was generally ridiculous wink.gif

just thought I'd add my piece in about names. Most of the pet names I have for Nick would be considered an insult to most and the same for the names he calls me.

I too hate "hubby" and "baby". Occasional I call him my love.

OK MUST GET BACK TO AOS FORMS. Almost done.
Scott and Marta
Ok, does anybody know: I wanna change my passport so I have a passport with my new name. Always in the past, when I got a new passport, they always kept my previous one. If thatīs whatīs gonna happen again, does it matter that they take the passport while the K1 is in it (although expired)? Iīd at least unstaple the I-94 and keep that with me. But is that gonna be a problem if Iīm here with a new passport that would have no visa in it? unsure.gif
StillThePrettiest
I got to keep my expired Aus one, just with the corner cut off to indicate it was no longer valid... I'm sure they must have provision for this; why not ring them and ask?

I'm going to leave off changing my name for a bit, for exactly these sort of reasons... there's enough paperwork hassle in my life just at present wink.gif

PS remember that the visa was technically just for entry, and is now expired... I can understand you wanting to keep it, but in theory at least, you no longer need it... don't know if that's helpful or not wink.gif
Scott and Marta
I know but then what if some Homeland Security guy at an airport is gonna be checking me and arrest me for climbing the fence at Mexico/US border? tongue.gif Just kidding smile.gif Iīll ask them when I go apply for it biggrin.gif Btw I forgot to inform you that we already received our Czech marriage certificate, so now itīs official in both countries biggrin.gif

Fine. Mess with my LIFE.

I was only hoping to chat with a few friends I've made who coincidentally sent off their I129f packets in July 2007, much like myself.

I guess I'll go see if the February filers will take me in! tongue.gif

Hola chicos!

Sorry it's been a while, been busy getting married.

Debz, congrats!!! As a date twin, I hope you are just as happy as I am! The wedding went well, and Puerto Rico was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a more exotic honeymoon, without leaving US territory.

So, now I am trying to figure out what is next. I am just about to start the AOS application, and am stuck about what to do with my name. I want to change it to Mrs. "His Surname", and need some guidance. Can I just change it at social security, seeing as I don't have a bank account or drivers license yet? Will I stumble when I fill out AOS if I don't have any proof of a name change, or is my Marriage Certificate all I need? Thanks!

Hi there. Marriage certificate is all you need to change your name at AOS. Just fill the forms in using your new name and that's the name that will appear on your Green Card. I only needed the marriage cert to change my SS card too. good.gif

I agree; Susie, where are the pics? I mean, it's not like you're busy with anything else major right now. tongue.gif

So it looks like we're going to end up sending our AOS stuff (ha, not even married yet and I'm already on that stuff) in late June and I will once again be a July filer. Kind of odd.

YAY Debz!! Hope the forms aren't stressing you out too much biggrin.gif Any news on when you are going to get the net yet? How are you getting on with things? Are you getting homesick? Bored? Or have you found tons to occupy your time with? How is Nick getting on with his job?

Ooooh so many questions - need a good catch up!! biggrin.gif

Many many thanks! It's not that I don't trust what the US officials are telling me.... but sometimes you want to be told by people who have been there / done that! It seems weird that I can just change my name overnight, and tell people when I get around to it. Have I been Mrs. "his surname" since we got married? Or when I tell SS? Or when I change my name by deed-poll in England?.....

I know when I read about marriage in NYC it said you do it at the time you get married; you either change it then or not. So maybe it depends on what state or even what jurisdiction you get married in; I'm not really sure. I don't think it's an automatic thing just from marriage; I mean I'm pretty sure you have to go ahead and officially, legally change it. But maybe if you applied to get married with a new name that took care of it? Check with where you got married.

Yes, I believe it does depend on the State. I married in Nevada and all I had to do was start using my new name, I didn't have to do anything 'official'. I changed my name with the SSA/bank/utilities etc. and all I needed as proof was my marriage certificate. Dead easy! biggrin.gif

lisalu100, why are you changing your name by deed poll in the UK? Is that something unrelated to your marriage?

I think by the time I get all these forms sorted and my joint sponsor fills out forms I'll be a july filer again. Really hard to believe that that's a year gone by. I mailed my K1 away on 26th June and it really looks like this will be about the same.

Aly: was homesick yesterday, missing my mammy but got to talk to rents today so feeling a tad better. As for bordom, yes I'm bored. Next week I'll be around most days as looking after Nick's Grandma every morning. Nick's mammy is her full time carer but is working for a week at stuhr museum, she teaches theatre out there every summer.

In 2 weeks I'm going to get my driving licence (HOPEFULLY!!!) at least then I'll be more independant and be able to get out and about. Been doing the online practice written test and passing it every time. The practical test apparently lasts 15mins max and it's literally drive round a couple of blocks, no manouvers like the UK one. I drove Nick's car round a parking lot, so strange being on other side.

Oh I donīt know about your state, but here they wouldnīt give me the driverīs license until I show them GC (or maybe EAD will work too). I passed all the tests but they wouldnīt issue it since the K1 was to expire in less than 60 days or something like that... At least later on I just show it and they give it to me. No more tests smile.gif

Ahh but at least you're there now smile.gif And you're together which is what counts - someone please remind me that as well when I start freaking out!?

Does it still feel weird Debz? It's great that you are going to be driving soon smile.gif I am really nervous about driving around - I am going to practice in our car when it gets changed from Jeremy's giant van! But we won't be able to afford two cars for a while anyway so wink.gif I'll just practice in a parking lot too biggrin.gif

You'll be around more just as I begin to drop off the radar - Jeremy is here this time next week and then I am moving!!! I'll pop my head in from time to time but prolly won't be too active until I cross the pond - will be freaking out and needing all my buddies for support blush.gif

Yes sometimes it does still feel weird. It's like sometimes in a moment of realisation I think, Oh S**t, I live in the US.

on another note...I've just found out my mammy, dad and aunt (dad's sis who I have always got on amazingly with and last time I was with her drank 2 litres of wine between us plus my cousin) are coming for a week on 12th Oct. YEY!!!!
