wow, yes; very interesting! I didn't know they were actually FINING people ohmy.gif

but I thought that now I'm a resident of the US I'd come under the same laws...?

Though you currently reside here, you are not yet an LPR. Although, I doubt you want to go through any further separation from Dave and visa nonsense just so you can visit Cuba!

What if you went in on an Aus passport, then went to another country and returned via that other country and presented your green card upon re-entry to the US, which is the way I understand it to work???

I'm sure its not OK, but I like to think about conundrums like this! tongue.gif

Anyway, the fining is crazy!
StillThePrettiest
yeah, I wondered about that too... but why can't US citizens go that way as well? if they travel from some third country, and Cuba doesn't stamp passports...?

in other news, I have my doors open because it's so lovely and fresh here after a rain storm, and some lovely neighbours came to check I was ok smile.gif
that's the SECOND set of neighbours I've met through, literally, open doors; the same thing happened a week or so ago laughing.gif

guess it's not that common here wink.gif
Scott and Marta
You open the doors and there you go biggrin.gif Visitors biggrin.gif
StillThePrettiest
yes, and me sitting with my post-root-canal mouth in an almost empty lounge room, on an ENORMOUS ugly couch, typing on my laptop laughing.gif

I wonder what they thought of me...

wink.gif
Poiteen
Am I right in thinking that the safest way to go is to wait till you get citizenship, and then go on your other passport? They surely would never know then? star_smile.gif

wow, StP, it's day for you now? Weird how this funny world works. Silly things I really should be used to by now, like time difference, still blow my mind.

When I was looking for a dress for out ceremony, I actually had to force myself not to automatically gravitating towards the white stuff. Went for red in the end. But gold sounds lovely star_smile.gif
StillThePrettiest
yep, bright shiny day here smile.gif

still quite pleasant... getting rapidly warmer again, after the rain, but I've still got the doors open, and the ceiling fan on above me, and it's quite nice smile.gif

I hope I can get something good... I'm so bad with buying clothes; nothing ever fits quite right unsure.gif
if it fits in the chest it's massive in the waist... that sort of thing... egad...

They (we) can, we're just not supposed to. I know USC's who've bent the rules and gone to Cuba.

And as soon as I get my Canadian passport, I'm going! Course, it's entirely possible that by the time that happens USCs will be allowed to go.

I have the same problem, especially in dresses, there's no allowance that your top half and bottom half, might not be in perfect 34B, ahem! balance. blush.gif

But why wouldnīt we be supposed to? When someone is an American citizen and another country citizen as well why would the rule have to be to only use the American passport everywhere? Anyways, Iīm not gonna go there without Scott so Iīll wait till he can too smile.gif

Itīs funny that you say that cuz today I realized I still sometimes think STP is in Australia. But I always manage to correct myself tongue.gif

Maybe its me, but it always bugs me when someone refers to his/her SO as "my baby".

I see these thread titles referring to "finally being with my baby" and I immediately think of an infant. blink.gif

Or they'll say, I just posted new pics of my baby. So I open the thread expecting to see a cute lil baby, and instead I get some inapprpriately dressed chick trying to look sexy.

What do you guys think? Isn't it kinda weird? Or am I turning into a curmudgeon? unsure.gif

I agree with you completely, it drives me nuts! girlwerewolf2xn.gif

I think you only get it from those people who think that their love is better and stronger than anyone else's. Personally, I think it shows a certain level of insecurity in them, this constant need to show the world how much they are in love. Or perhaps I'm just getting old! laughing.gif

Well, since I'm certainly not getting old, then you can't be either!! star_smile.gif

And that settles it - it is definitely them, not us!!! laughing.gif
StillThePrettiest
I'll third it biggrin.gif
I use it sometimes, when speaking to Dave, but not otherwise wink.gif

I'll also register an EXTREME distaste for the word 'hubby', wherever I encounter it, but that's just a personal prejudice wink.gif

Oh, and me too! Loathe that worrd with a passion! I used to work with a woman whose every sentence started with, "Hubby says...."

It drove me mad!!!!!

P.S. I don't ever call Griff 'baby', however, I will say things like, 'hey babe' to get his attention. I NEVER refer to him as my baby.
StillThePrettiest
I think if you actually have some REAL babies this distinction would become more important... in any case, I prefer 'sweetie' and 'honey' and even 'chick' wink.gif
*julez*
I am soooooooo tempted to go mess with a LIFE. I want to ask that woman if it was tough to travel with a baby all the way from the Phillippines??

Griff calls me an interesting array of terms of endearment, including all of the above, plus his most favorite 'chuck'. I also get 'duck' and 'love' quite a bit, along with the odd "hen" and "pet".
StillThePrettiest
my Grandma always used to call me 'pet'! smile.gif

'hen' and 'chuck' are very British smile.gif
I like them too smile.gif

I like having silly names... not 'Squidgy' and 'Ickle Patootie' and gumph of that ilk, but for example if you're being silly, we always say you're being a 'munchkin'... and of course the Australian term of endearment/epithet 'dag' comes into play a lot wink.gif
rae_and_scott
Scott and I will refer to each other as baby and lots of other silly pet names, but yeah, I would never say "my baby" to refer to him when speaking to someone else.

I have a friend who used to be married who would refer to his wife as "The Wife" and I always hated that; find it rather sexist. Like back in the days when husbands would refer to their wives as "My old lady". I hope it's all back in the days, anyhow.

laughing.gif But if someone uses the word "hen" on you in Czech, be sure they think you are stupid and they are being rude to you biggrin.gif I think it doesnīt matter what people call themselves in private but in public itīs rather silly to talk about your SO as if he/she was your baby tongue.gif

Hehe Julez biggrin.gif Donīt feel bad itīs not your fault. To be honest I donīt really care about it that much. I just want it to be done so I can close boxes and not think about it for 2 years. Only thing I am really going to need is the AP cuz Iīm gonna go to my brotherīs wedding in summer and so I wanna have that just in case the GC takes forever. If I wasnīt planning to go anywhere I wouldnīt care about that either. Itīs just so weird. We have to go through all that hassle for K1 and then we are in prison called USA, cuz we canīt go anywhere headbonk.gif And with the EAD...the later I get it the less chance Iīll try to get a job cuz the belly is growing so I donīt know whatīs gonna happen with that smile.gif Not really feel like trying to fit in a new job and learn new stuff while having to deal with my own preggy troubles and then look like an idiot there smile.gif Other than that, everything is fine biggrin.gif

Aww hun - it'll all work out - I know it is easy to say make the most of the time you have to yourself, but it is one thing saying it and another thing doing it wink.gif

we say all of our terms of endearment in albanian...

shpirti im - my soul
zemer - heart
burr (pronounced kind of like 'boor') - husband...yes, i call him 'husband' haha, even did so before we were married
gru (pronounced 'grew') - wife...yea, the same goes for him
rrushe - grape, its like a way of saying 'sweetie' in albanian

i would never say those names when talking to someone else about him though...yes, i hate the 'hubby' thing, ughhhh

I totally agree with you - it makes me want to puke to put it bluntly. Apologies to StP though - I will prolly use Hubby because I can't find any other suitable abbreviation of Husband other than "Hubster" which actually sounds rather crap. It would purely be for use around friends though so StP - you can get the full "Hubby" goodness from me wink.gif

I was wondering that too. You probably already paid out of pocket, but if you have to go back or for anyone else this might be helpful:
Try looking for a univeristy dental school. I know here NYU is the place to go if you want to get quality dental work done at a much cheaper price.
StillThePrettiest
thanks for the tip; I'll keep it in mind smile.gif

I DO have a temporary cover, and we'll try to get some of it back on that... and I can go on Dave's insurance from the 1st of July, and we're going to try to put off anything else (like the crown) til then, when it will at least be partially covered

to be honest, I wanted to put this work off as well - I broke a tiny piece off the tooth a couple of months ago, which was the start of the problems, but didn't have an NHS dentist in the UK and with all the palaver going on to do with leaving the country never got round to signing on somewhere (there's a shortage of dentists in London anyway so I don't know how successful I'd have been even if I'd tried)... I would have been quite happy to leave it for a couple more weeks, but it started hurting, and the dentist I saw initially put some fear into me re abscesses and pretty things like that, and what with my parents' visit, and the wedding so imminent, we thought it was better not to go on risking it wink.gif

Charlie started calling me baby shortly after we got together. It pi$$ed the living $hite out of me at first. Then I gave up complaining about it, then I got used to it, now i do it too blush.gif .

But in writing - nooooooo. And hubby, well I agree with Jeraly, I don't like it, but I see why people resort to it. We need a new one. I suppose that's what SO and OH are for star_smile.gif

StP - hope you get some of that precious tooth money back!!
StillThePrettiest
I hope we do too... unsure.gif

but what's wrong with 'my husband', if people don't know him, and '[name]' if people do? tongue.gif wink.gif
Scott and Marta
Maybe some ladies donīt like the word cuz it also belongs to them and the men took it tongue.gif Since "husband" isnīt an English word. It comes from an Old Norse word which spelling is similar and meant "master of a house" while they used the same word for "mistress of a house" (now wife). The feminine version of the word was still used in Old English, but then "wife" took over tongue.gif On the other hand, if both versions survived into Modern English, it would have sounded identical to "husband" which would be no fun, cuz we would have no clue who people refer to tongue.gif
StillThePrettiest
by your logic, no words are truly 'English' words tongue.gif

wink.gif

I like the German way... Mann means both 'man' and 'husband', and Frau means both 'woman' and 'wife' biggrin.gif

hey guys....just stopping by and had to chime in!
