Susie: I'm curious what restaurant you picked! I've been looking for one as well and thinking Frankie's 457. smile.gif (http://www.frankiesspuntino.com/457/index.html) Or maybe I just want to know which one you picked so I can come crash your wedding. laughing.gif

OMG Rae, why are we so hillarious?! That place is literally a block away from our restaurant...It looks REALLY nice there, but it probably a little more expensive than what my mom wants to pay...maybe not though, I don't know how much they charge...might have to stop by there tonight before we put out deposit down wink.gif

lol our place is also on court st, casa rosa...maybe you know it?

edit: did you notice my punctuation slowly deteriorate as that post went on? laughing.gif

laughing.gif I do know Casa Rosa! Have you eaten there before?

Frankie's isn't the cheapest, but I really love it there. It's beautiful inside, plus they have a gorgeous back garden / patio. They also have what they call their stable for private parties. I inquired and it starts at $2000. Needless to say, we aren't going with that! (We will only be a small dinner of 10 people.) But they also do a pre-fix group dining menu, which I am considering.
Poiteen
wow, now I know all the great Italian places I need to go to if i'm even in NY star_smile.gif

Aly - hang in there, not long now till you're there yourself, and you can whizz around and sort everything out!

yes, we actually ate there last nite...the food was great (this is a very important issue with my family laughing.gif )...did you ever eat there before? they have a nice party room in the back...i would like my gathering ot be only 10 people, but my family is too large for such a thing...im having my immediate family, aunts, uncles, first cousins and grandparents, plus 5 friends, so it should be around 40-45 people or so...Casa Rosa has really good rates, so it worked out well...im actually starting to get excited now!! biggrin.gif

and yea, Frankie's looks absolutely beautiful
rae_and_scott
I haven't ever eaten there actually but I walk by it all the time! Well that is very exciting, and your day is coming up very soon! biggrin.gif

I found another place I'm looking into:
http://chestnutonsmith.com/

Have you ever been there? I really dig that they talk about using local ingredients (I am big into organics).

Is Scott ready for the interview or has he been ready for a while now? tongue.gif

We are almost completely ready. I think he might have to have more passport photos taken (not a big deal), but more importantly, we don't have the long form version of his birth certificate yet. I'm not sure if that is a Canadian-specific thing or if all countries require it, but it's something we need. We ordered it on March 22 but there is some complication b/c he was adopted and so some forms had to be signed by both his adoptive parents (who are divorced so the paperwork had to travel around a bit)... I'm a bit worried about it. But our lawyer doesn't seem overly concerned, plus I have a friend who went through an interview in Montreal, didn't have it, but was still approved, plus Scott tells me it should arrive in the mail soon. So we have done all we can on that front and just have to hope it's going to work out.

I should feel happy that everything's pretty much in order b/c Scott is a major procrastinator! He still needs to book his travel to Montreal but mine is already taken care of! *sigh*

yea, maybe youre right...ive thought about getting rid of the cds, theyre a pain in the arse...the books i have to keep, because a lot of them are from school and were very expensive and also have a lot of important info which i am sure i will need to refer to when i start grad school next month...lord help me lol...one day i will put all of the cds on my computer, but it all comes back to procrastination, now doesnt it? wink.gif

another thing, does anyone have any thoughts as to something i can wear to the wedding reception that isnt a poofy white dress? i hate white and try never to wear it, and would absolutely prefer not to do so...why is it such a requirement??? god, i hate tradition!!! what else can i go for??? unsure.gif
Jeraly
Actually black is quite fashionable at the moment biggrin.gif

You could go for something sparkly or silvery or gold? In August I am wearing a white skirt and a white blouse and maybe a silvery or pastel pink vesty top underneath

omg i would LOVE to wear black...i mentioned it to my mom and sister and of course they frowned upon the idea sad.gif

your outfit sounds cute, i cant wait to see the pics!! biggrin.gif
rae_and_scott
I think you should wear whatever you want.

I have noticed that a lot of people have strong opinions on what I should do or wear on my city hall day (which to me isn't even the real thing since we plan to do a big ceremony later), and it really bugs me. This is your day, not your mom's or sister's. I mean, sure, you don't want to piss them off or anything. But letting them know that you'll be happier doing what you want to do should mean something.

Oh and it doesn't have to be a big poofy dress either. I went with the white "requirement" and just got a simple white summer dress from Anthropologie. smile.gif

But if you want to wear black, especially to your reception, wear black!!
Scott and Marta
Black wedding dress smile.gif HERE

Though itīs said black dress bring bad luck sad.gif The marriage of this couple ended after 6 months...
Poiteen
You could try somewhere in the middle, like a dark silver.

Our ceremony was like your's Rae - for the paperwork, except with no plans for a big hoopla later. I wore a red silk wraparound dress. It went to half way down my calf. Underneath I wore a big flouncy hippie skirt that I was wearing when my OH and I went off on our road trip together (3 days after meeting). It was just visible below the dress, and provided the 'poofy' element, while being something very personal to me. heart.gif

She could wear black and prove the saying wrong tongue.gif

So itīs May 17 already. Our timeline says AP news should arrive May 22 and EAD May 28 biggrin.gif Hope itīs right. the VJ estimated dates for my AP and EAD was exactly correct.
but still no news at all on the AOS. ohwell....

i'm so ready for this paperwork to be over.
but then, there will still be the paperwork in 2 years....

hope everybody has a great weekend!

Does anyone remember the couple where she was pregnant and was about to leave her husband cuz he smoked? The busy psycho thread? I was wondering what happened with them in the end but the links to the threads donīt work anymore (I guess they were deleted) and I canīt remember the nickname she was using. Anybody remembers? tongue.gif
Jeraly
laughing.gif I remember that Marta - I can't remember who it was though - someone in MENA

Here is another black wedding dress smile.gif Or this one... there are loads out there - if you do a google image search biggrin.gif

You could put your bridesmaids in pastels to contrast biggrin.gif Or you could have a really vibrant colour like electric blue just to be different biggrin.gif
Jeraly
Am feeling all sentimental - listening to the song we are going to have our first and last dance to next month smile.gif
rae_and_scott
Hey Marta (and anyone else who might want to read up on this), I finally found that thread that I had read about how to use AP:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry1556300

biggrin.gif
Scott and Marta
Aly gets to dance her dance really soon biggrin.gif good.gif

Concerning the AP itīs still pretty confusing. Someone is given one copy back and others get both back. And they take I-94 from someone when leaving the country and from someone when re-entering it. That makes no sense. I am pretty sure they will take it from me at the airport when leaving cuz itīs a departure card unsure.gif
rae_and_scott
Well yeah it's not cut and dry, but at least I think it's pretty clear that it's for more than one use. It seems. unsure.gif
Scott and Marta
I just feel like I remember when filing out my forms that it was pretty clear it was just for one entry and if I needed to travel again Iīd have to re-aply for AP. But I am also pretty sure I checked the box for one entry not for multiples cuz the multiples didnīt seem like it applied on me. If I wasnīt lazy, I could go and look up the copies of the forms headbonk.gif I might do that soon tongue.gif
rae_and_scott
Yeah, perhaps there is more than one type of AP doc dependong on whether you check one entry or multiple entries. I guess I am only familiar with the multiple entry kind since Canadians tend to need that since they are so close (usually).
Scott and Marta
Hopefully we all get the AOS before we need to travel again good.gif

hey guys! just dropped Matthew off for his first job interview over here....I think I am more nervous than him smile.gif

We got his EAD in the post last week, he submitted his resume online to 3 jobs late Thursday night, and by Saturday afternoon he had 2 job interviews lined up for this week and a request for more information from the third one! it was totally crazy and started happening so fast. It's a good thing, just kinda nuts!

anyway, just needed a place to say ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! I hope it goes well for him. He left a great job in london that he really liked to move here and I just want him to find something that makes him happy - you know???

happy monday to everyone smile.gif

just a quick update, my mother has proceeded to double the guest list for the wedding reception...i am turning into a bridezilla as a result, because i wanted a very small personal wedding, but of course she is paying, so she is taking over and inviting people that i have met maybe once or twice in my life wacko.gif

she is driving me nuts

i got a dress, its off-white and i actually like it tongue.gif i still need an outfit for the ceremony though, i am NOT wearing that dress to city hall, no way in hell lol its wayyy too fancy

still lots to do, and its getting overwhelming, especially since i didnt want any of this traditional wedding type nonsense ranting33va.gif

my aunt made me do a registry though, which is something i had never considered...what fun that was hehe got me all excited for our new apartment...decorating is fun biggrin.gif

You'll enjoy it though - it all seems like a bit of a nonsense for the moment but from your mom's point of view - it's her little girl getting married, you know? And once you get into the swing of things you'll have a day to remember smile.gif

We made a wedding registry as well - we used Amazon.com but things keep being discontinued so I have to keep tweaking things!! Someone already got us our waterford crystal champagne flutes though biggrin.gif It's nice - the other stuff we will need to get anyway, but we would never be able to justify getting the flutes because they aren't essential... means we can toast our new life together in style though... and if we can't afford it, we might end up having to drink wine, beer, koolaid, coke out of them too... laughing.gif biggrin.gif
