laughing.gif must be the case, most albanians have an olive or orange-ish type of skin color

Have you heard that those genes that lots of Irish people have (and I believe some Brits do to) that make their skin pale and hair so red, those genes are gonna disapear in a couple of decades and there will be no more red haired people like that?

ohmy.gif !
I'm a redhead and I can't imagine there not being any more people like me around! It would be a travesty.
And on the last name topic, I actually prefer Scott's last name to mine, but I won't be changing it. I tend to think it's a sexist tradition, but that isn't to say that I disagree with people's choices to change their names. I know everybody has their reasons.
Scott and Marta
Well I donīt mind people keeping their names and husband and wife having a different last name each. What I do mind for some reason is that the kids get usually just one of their parentsī last name and itīs often the fatherīs name. Maybe if half of the kids had that name and the other half would have the other name, but that seems weird too. The thing is, if you wanna keep your name cuz you wanna continue where you come from and the kids donīt get your name then where you come from (the name) actually ends with you anyway cuz there is noone inheritting your name. So I prefer to take my husbandīs name so we are one big family and our kids have our name cuz now itīs my name too and it doesnīt feel to me like itīs someone elses name. And then I can show and tell our kids where I am from too so they know it and the fact that I had a different name in Europe doesnīt matter. My American name is Mexican anyway laughing.gif
Actually maybe if I kept my maiden name and the rest of our family would have my husbands name then maybe it would make me feel like a stranger tongue.gif

But thatīs just me smile.gif Whoever wants to keep their names I think itīs perfectly fine if thatīs what they feel. And it doesnīt matter what other people think cuz other people donīt walk in their shoes smile.gif
Poiteen
wow, you guys can type!!! pages and pages since i was here last.

I'm keeping my own name. It's what i've always been called, and I would find it really weird to 'be' someone different. Plus maybe it's weird but I like the idea that we are individuals. We can't be lumped in together as Mr & Mrs. so-and-so. I hate when a couple is always considered as a pair and not as a separate human being. but that's just my 2c. star_smile.gif
Scott and Marta
That proves that you donīt come here often enough good.gif
Scott and Marta
Why do you have this delaying tactics anyway? tongue.gif
Poiteen
i work on contracts, and my contract isn't due to be up until the end of July or the beginning of August, so I can't move till then. I was trying to make sure that my visa wasn't issued too soon or I would have to leave my job early star_smile.gif
Scott and Marta
Oh ok smile.gif So you will probly fly in September since the tickets get a bit cheaper then? smile.gif
Poiteen
I'm hoping for august, but only cos I'm impatient, and I just wanna go!!!!

but it might end up being september. star_smile.gif

i am going to reveal my true identity here, because i dont know what to do about my last name when i get married!!!!!!!

which name is better:
1) Susan Gundersen-Miceli
2) Susan Miceli-Gundersen

Miceli is pronounced 'Mit-selly' for the record (the 'c' in albanian is pronounced like a 'ts' in english)

I prefer number one as well good.gif

QUOTE(julezabelle @ Apr 23 2008, 09:03 PM) *
I'd use one or the other. I'm not such a fan of the hyphenated names as they are too cumbersome. IMO, of course! blush.gif

I agree but then everyone is different smile.gif

I changed from Fox to Redinger - I am a little traditional and I have two brothers to carry on my family name so it didn't really come into the question. Took a while for Redinger to grow on me though...

Of course, Jeremy wanted to change over to his mom's maiden name...

McPheeters blink.gif

My best friend said it sounded like a sick new burger you would get at McDonalds - "Come on down and try the new and exclusive McPheeters Burger!"

Hmmmm

Redinger sounds much better than McPheeters!
laughing.gif

That's what I thought... after hearing the alternative (many years ago now) Redinger grew on me laughing.gif Also it is kinda unusual as well, especially with the spelling of my first name so I am unique!! biggrin.gif

Hello all. Checking in.

I'll be changing from Deborah Anne Cowey to Deborah Anne Bartlett.

I am so bored and miserable just now. The days are just seemong to run into each other and each is as emoty and boring as the last. Started going for daily walks with Celeste (the person that lets us live in her basement appartment) and her st. bernard and we do 10mins of pilates at least 3 tomes a week. I'm just soooooooo bored though. I really miss working and driving and just being able to do things without constantly having to rely on other folk.

We have been checking our finances and provided I can get EAD and a job by around oct and we can stock to budget we should be able to have $10K in a savings account for a deposit on a house. The nebraskan house prices round here are really good just now. We hope to start looking in Feb/March next year. Until them we have the appartment.
Scott and Marta
Awwww rose.gif I wish you could find something interesting for you to do around there smile.gif Is it a big or small town? rose.gif

StillThePrettiest
yeah, that's right... feeling pretty weird right now, I have to say

of course, having been awake since 3.13am could be a part of that... blink.gif

once the removalists have been, I'm going to feel a whole lot better... I actually packed my bags last night - FAR earlier than I normally would, but I needed to see how much would fit - so I'm pretty much ready to go... am even sleeping on borrowed sheets so my nice ones could be packed wink.gif

Debz - soooo good to hear from you hun smile.gif Can't wait til you get the internet at home!!! Just think - a couple months and I will be there then we can spend all day talking on the phone laughing.gif I know it really sucks being stuck in one place all the time - I was going stir crazy when I was there for seven weeks blink.gif I figure eventually I might just get so used to it that I won't want to get back to work biggrin.gif

StP - OMG!! I can't believe it is so close!! It has come around really quickly smile.gif *hugs*
StillThePrettiest
*hugs back*

don't forget though, I've almost a month in Australia before I get to the US wink.gif

though it's only about two weeks til I see Dave, and this time there will be no more partings biggrin.gif wub.gif kicking.gif
Jeraly
Oh that must be an amazing feeling!! AND you get to go see your family again soon!!! Oh I need to hear more happy stories - I am cacking myself at the moment!!
StillThePrettiest
it is an amazing feeling... about equal parts amazing and weird wink.gif

another good news story - despite a VERY stressful beginning to the day - no parking - the move went off fine smile.gif
Jeraly
Oh kewlies - so all your stuff has been taken to be shipped now? Bet that's a weird feeling too, knowing that the next time you see all your stuff you'll be in your hew home!!
StillThePrettiest
yes indeedy smile.gif

I thought that a few times as it was all getting boxed up wink.gif
Jeraly
I'm sure I will too although I must say I am slacking a bit at the moment... I ran out of boxes and I am waiting on my bro bringing some more back from work!!
Scott and Marta
QUOTE(Jeraly @ Apr 25 2008, 07:52 AM) *
laughing.gif Where did you find all that out?!

I have connections wink.gif

Are you girls shipping all your stuff? Does that get pricey?
StillThePrettiest
I shipped most of my stuff... it IS pricey, but it's all relative - this was a good company (Allied Pickfords) who have so far done a great job, and were cheaper than all the other quotes... and it comes in WAY cheaper than re-buying all that stuff smile.gif
Scott and Marta
Iīm not rebuying I just take it with me slowly. Everytime one of us goes to USA we take some of my stuff. Itīs not like I desparately need all my stuff. And there isnīt that much left anyways. Cuz what Scott already had here I gave away if I had it too or sold it cuz we donīt need to have stuff twice. So itīs more like my snowboarding gear or stuff like that that I donīt really feel like buying again right now. And a few kitchen gadgets that they donīt even sell in USA. So next time we go we will see how much stuff fits in our bags again biggrin.gif
Scott and Marta
Dear friends, I decided to check and guess what I saw. My predicted adjudication date for AP moved from early May to late May and for EAD it moved from late May to early June. Not that itīs a big deal if it moved 2 weeks ahead but you know. All the K1 delay from the last year is still in my fresh memory and there once the date started moving like that it never seemed to going to stop moving to a later date. Oh well...just keep waiting unsure.gif
Scott and Marta
And Julez, how is Griff doing and what is he up to and how does it like it there and and and biggrin.gif
BabyBlueSusie
im sleepy sleep.gif

it was this thing that i got free tickets for from my boss...its called bowfire http://www.bowfire.com/

the performers sing, dance (tap dancing!!!) and play the violin...but its not like slow, violin music, its upbeat and they mix a lot of genres in there (blues, jazz, country, rock, celtic etc)...was pretty cool indeed, and free!! kicking.gif

StillThePrettiest
I actually did just go to sleep blush.gif

but that's because today was moving day, and I woke up at 3.13am to worry about it blink.gif
Scott and Marta
So now you woke up at 8pm or so and stay up all night? tongue.gif
StillThePrettiest
no, I've been up since 3.13am, stressed out of my head about the moving... which was partially justified as they called me an hour before they were due to say they had a FORTY FOOT LORRY and the two parking spaces they'd asked me to reserve for the small van they'd said they were bringing weren't going to be enough blink.gif

but anyway, they were great people, and we were able to sort it, after a lot of hassle, and it's done now smile.gif

and now I'm so exhausted I just went to bed, and dozed off for ten minutes at the computer, with my hands still on the keys laughing.gif blush.gif
