Hi guys, I don't know exactly if this is the right place where to post my question, but I hope that out there there is someone that can help me and shed some light on my question.

I got just today a letter regarding a statement of the Social security in which they say that "from their records it results that I've been employed in work in which I didin't pay Social Security taxes, such some federal, state or local government work", this is BS as I have all my earning statements from the Company I've been working for since I was allowed to work, in which is very clear mentioned that I pay the Social Security tax.
Tomorrow morning as soon as I get up I will call up this "F%@&*...office" that probably doesn't have anything else better to do that bothering people like me who are here legally and pay the taxis and work hard. I can't stand this kind of behavior and I can't wait to finish this fricking journey, because right now I wish I were in my country which is anyway, in many way much better than USA. And if I'm here is just because of my husband, otherwise I would have said "Bye-bye" long time ago to a country that thinks to be SO special but it is NOT.........................right now I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad!!!!!

I kindly ask out there if anyone of you guys got a letter like that, because I'm pretty MAD & PISSED OFF at the moment, and I need to share with someone who got a letter like mine, and maybe can give me a suggestion. Thank you again guys!!!!!

First call and find out, maybe the letter was just sent in error to you. There are lots of government agencies that make tons of errors!

Second, you can go to http://ssa.gov/mystatement/ and request a statement to be mailed to you. There it should show how much you made each year, and how much was paid into social security. Since you said you have your pay stubs, you can match up this info. If there are any errors, with the paystubs or contacting your employer you can straighten it out.

Did you ever work in non covered employment or work under immigration status that's not covered by the Social Security program, i.e. F-1, J-1, M-1?

SSA is required by law to notify people that had non covered employment.

Request a Social Security Statement, if the earnings totals are wrong, call the SSA 800# (1-800-772-1213) or go into a Social Security office with proof of earnings, i.e. W-2, tax filings, pay stubs, for the year(s) in question.

Remember the Statement will not show at this point in the year 2007 earnings or 2008 earnings.

To obtain the Statement, you must submit a Form SSA-7004, “Request for Earnings and Benefit Estimate Statement,” which can be accessed on the SSA Website. You have the option of either downloading the form or making your request online at:

http://www.ssa.gov/mystatement

You will receive your Statement through the mail whether you make your request online or mail SSA the paper request form. Normally, you should receive your Statement within 2 to 4 weeks.

When you call our toll-free number, please be prepared to provide:

-- Your Social Security number;
-- The employers name and address;
-- The employer identification number (if known);
-- The year(s)/amount(s) in question; and
-- An explanation of the problem

You can obtain the address and directions to the nearest Social Security office from the Social Security Office Locator, which is available on the Internet at:

http://www.ssa.gov/locator

Generally, the timeframe for an earnings record correction is 90 days and once SSA has corrected your record you will be sent a letter telling you the correction has been made and your next annual Statement after that will also show the correction. If you need an updated Statement sooner than the next annual issuance, you can request one after you get your letter about the correction.

Another concern and something to take a look at is identity theft. If someone is fraudulently using your SSN to work and not making deductions from those ernings that could trigger this sort of letter. When you talk with them have them show you the name of the Employer, the location of the employment and the dates of the employment for which they say you failed to submit deductions from earnings. If this turns out to be the case, you should be able to show that this is a different person by comparing times, dates and locations of employment. Good luck in getting this sorted out.

I don't think it's someone using his SSN, since that normally results in a notice from the IRS for unreported earnings. I would get the Social Security Statement and if the earnings are incorrect take action to get it corrected with SSA.

SSA isn't going to have a record of times and dates of employment. The best they can do is say employer X reported $$$$$ for Year in your name and SSN and will have the employer's address.
