Although the purpose of a birth certificate on an international form is to avoid translation, has anyone ever had an RFE due to submitting their birth certificate on this form?

Am I safer to translate it anyways?

Thanks
Sly

If your birth certificate is not in english it must be translated.

I'm assuming you are referencing a USCIS form.

At what point are you in the visa process?

Foreign birth cert is not required when filing I-130, only US Citizen's to prove US Citizenship, if foreign born then proof of US citizenship needs to be included, Full copy of US passport, or Naturalization Cert.

Foreign birth cert are requested at later stage either by NVC or the consulate, and yes it needs to be translated to english.

We are only just getting ready to start the process.

We are trying to make sure we have all the documents together. My fiance is American. I am Canadian but born in Austria. They sent me my certificate on an international form and I want to make sure that would not be a problem down the road.

Sounds like I will still need a translation even though the form is meant to avoid that?

Just provide a complete copy of US passport to prove US Citizenship, Complete means "all pages including cover"

What Documents Do You Need to Show That You Are a United States Citizen?

1. If you were born in the United States, a copy of your birth certificate, issued by the civil registrar, vital statistics office,or other civil authority. If a birth certificate is not available Page 3, titled "What If a Document Is Not Available?"

2. A copy of your naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the former INS.

3. A copy of Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States, issued by an American Embassy or Consulate.

4. A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport; or

5. An original statement from a U.S. consular officer verifying that you are a U.S. citizen with a valid passport.

6. If you do not have any of the above documents and you were born in the United States, see instructions under Page 3, "What If a Document Is Not Available?"

A foreign birth cert is not on this list.

You will need a translation of it for interview, NOT for filing the I-130.

I would get it translated before case gets sent to NVC, NVC may request a copy of it when they send out Visa fee bill.
