If it becomes a problem one solution other than censorship would be to have a forum specifically for off-color talk and have it limited to members above a certain post count and only accessible by members who are logged in. If an otherwise innocuous thread turns 'naughty' then Ewok or one of the other mods can move it there. This is also an idea for the MENA flamewars.

THis is exactly how i feel about it.. I know who posts those kinds of posts, and you can sence when a thread is going to go into the gutter, if if offends me or just isnt' what i'm into - i move on.. no biggie.

For me, it's not about Puritanism. It's about taste. I don't like being assaulted with someone's toilet humor and inappropriate sexual references. Others find it funny, but I don't. I don't mind frank discussions about sex, and while I may not choose to divulge details of my sex life, I don't begrudge others who want to chat about it online. I'll probably even read it. Talk about sex is appropriate in a conversation about sex. It's not appropriate as a way to mock someone else in a conversation about politics. I sometimes even feel those jokes are a way to put me in my place because of my gender.

Yes Lisa I agree, it's an issue of taste and it says a lot about a person when they DO have to go into details about how their spouse pleases them and to what degree. Good grief... to me that shows little respect for the spouse.

In the overall numbers of all of the posts here in VJ, I'd say no....sometimes in OT though there's a bit much where a thread starts out for instance about fluffy kitties and the next thing you know we are into descriptions of sexual escapades or images which may be inappropriate that are indeed copied over and over throughout a thread as people continue to quote the thread....eeesh I wish folks would sort out continous quoting...

My favorite memory of inappropriate sexual commentary on VJ involved a thread some guy started about having sex in public. He was looking for 'confessions'. In order to start the thread, he 'confessed' to having boinked his g/f in one of the gateways of the Parthenon.

The thread descended into madness. Finally Yodrak asked the guy....and I'm paraphrasing....

"But were you any good or did you just get your rocks off?"

I think the thread died shortly thereafter.

It might have been said before (i haven't read the entire 6 pages of that thread), but that "sexual content" is just fun. when you are waiting for your NOA2, waiting for the next time you'll see your fiance/husband/family, it can be very stressing and it's good to have 'lighter' topics.
