Hey all,
I know this might sound like a silly question, but i just found something out that's making me nervous!
My husband-to-be and I are looking through the different types of Visa's we can apply for once we're married,so I can move to the States to be with him legally (He's American and i'm British).
I know a medical is involved,so i've just been reading through Form I-693 to see what actually takes place in one of these medicals.
Being the very modest and shy person that i am,my heart stopped when i read that some STD tests are included in this medical!
I know some STD tests can be done by blood test, but not sure which ones,so i was wondering if anyone who has had this immigration medical exam could tell me if the STDs tested for in this exam (Chancroid; gonorrhea; granuloma inguinal; lymphogranuloma venereum; HIV and syphilis) are done by blood test?
For example,do they do a blood test for these STD's,and then only do a pelvic exam if the blood test results show up something?

Any answers (especially ones that put my mind at rest!) would be greatly appreciated ohmy.gif)

Regards,
Anna.

Syphilis - usually they do a blood test exam.

HIV, Hepatitis - are also tested through blood exam.

Gonorrhea - they can test this through the urine (or body fluids).

In my medical exam: I saw that they did a Syphilis and Tzanck test (for Herpes).

At my Medical in London, they simply do a blood test for HIV. No other disease was mentioned during my exam. It is the easiest thing i've done in my life, no nervousness is needed at all! (Unless you know you have HIV, then i'd worry) Check out the UK forum for my full medical Review. (My London Medical Experience, 7th Jan '08, Bentnick Mansions.

Thanks so much for the replies!
I just wanted to see if anyone could confirm that these tests were done by a blood test and not an actual pelvic exam (it seriously scares the heck out of me!).
I've no reason to believe i have any STDs...i'm very responsible when it comes to that area of my life!
But i don't mind being tested for anything as long as it's done by blood test haha...less embarrassing that way anyway!
I guess i just freaked a little when i saw all those STDs listed on the medical form that they test for.

No pelvic exam. A very, very basic physical, blood work and xrays. I joked that doing immigration medicals is probably the easiest money the doctors earn, but I seriously think it is true. They do very, very little and certainly not a full physical. You'll be fine.

hi...you dont have to worry about it because it will not affect your petition unless you have an Aids. they will give you a shot or prescription to help you if they found out you have one... and though u dont have std's at all, still they will give you a shot.
