sad.gif My husband woke up during the night with the nasty flu-like cold I have been battling all week, so my "fun" will probably be to try to make him some soup. He was so sweet with me while I was sick and now its my turn to take care of him. It is the first time he has been sick since he arrived so I get to see how he handles it laughing.gif

Oh, not such a fun day today! Well, good luck with that and I hope he gets better soon. Yep, time to make up a big pot of CHICKEN soup!

OK, now I really need to get off of VJ and go buy some plants. Those day lilies are probably going fast !

Im afraid its a shopping day for me, have to firstly go and pick up my coffee table that I ordered, there was no way I was gonna pay $65 for delivery! Then I am off to the mall to spend more money ....
Ron/Sharon
Well I called Sharon this morning to get her off to work and then Came in to work here so I can get some questions answered through here. Get a good phone call while here, my daughter called to say that she has her first job interview on Monday, I'm glad for that because it was a problem that could have delayed my leaving here.

I hope that everyone that isn,t too well today will be better soon and to everyone here I wish a speedy trip through the process.

We haven't filed as yet but will very soon and that is the reason of no time-lime from us, We will have one once we start.

You all have a good weekend. good.gif kicking.gif

Back from the Garden Center, where I scored 2 special day lilies from the sale (Dallas DayLily Growers org) PLUS 5 more daylilies,3 begonias, 2 geraniums, more flowering annuals, 1 eggplant and 1 habanero pepper PLUS some caladium bulbs! Then I had to buy a big bag of compost/top soil to complete. I think I will be busy outside this weekend!
honeyblonde
Oh Catherine I do envy you! I was going to cut the back yard this morning but couldn't find my work boots until it was too hot. Abdel's tummy is still hurting some so I'm not letting him do a lot right now.

I have about 7 chapters of economics to read this weekend and next so I'm just reading until my brain wants a break, then doing paperwork or cleaning, depending on how bad my back wants me to get up and move.

Rebecca, Sorry to hear Rafie is sick. We had that nasty stuff a few weeks ago so I feel your pain. I hope he gets over it soon.

All the work we did in the laundry room really seems to be paying off. That area was very drafty with tons of air leaks, but now that we've renovated it the air conditioner doesn't seem to run nearly as much as before.

Oh well, only 2 more weekends like this and then I pretty much have the summer off from studying since I'm only taking concepts of fitness during the summer - and that's easy.

We're thinking about driving to Texas to see my Aunt in July when summer term lets out. Anybody else making vacation plans yet?

AngelK96
My husband is working, and I am doing the laundry..hahah literally!
I am thinking about taking my son to ICE AGE 2 later this afternoon.
and then going to visit my husband for a few minutes and then come
home and see if any poo has been flinging in this forum. I swear this
place has become the Drama Queen of VJ!

Hmm.. today.. I'm anxiously searching for a round trip ticket to Tunis, weighing my possibilities... oh yeah.. and doing seemingly ENDLESS amounts of yard work...

I moved from the garden to inside to do some cleaning . . . a friend is coming over tonight to peruse the pile of hips scarves I brought back from Egypt before I take them to sell at a hafla next weekend (Noura will understand about this quite well . . . it is all her fault I went back to Khan el Khallili to buy 30 more hip scarves, LOL).

Oh, taking a break right now and . . . did you know that the "CHEER - DANCE" competition is on sports TV today?? This stuff is hilarious!!! Not like the cheerleaders used to be back in the "olden days" . . . laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif

laughing.gif If it's really my fault you went to buy more, Catherine, then I'm waiting for my "kickback" hipscarf to arrive any moment now.... wish I was gonna be at that hafla!!! tongue.gif

All this talk of hipscarfs reminds me of Abdel's sisters. They would grab scarves, tie them around thier hips and mine, then try to teach me to dance. I'm a pure free-style dancer, so I had a really frustrating time trying to learn their moves.

I can't wait till we can go home to visit. I miss them so much!
noura
Ok, I'm just finishing a salad and now I need to turn off the computer screen in hopes of taking a nap before this big wedding I'm dancing for tonite.... 300 ppl in a fancy hotel in New Orleans! Mostly Armenian folks... they're so much fun.... gotta get a nap!

I'm not surprised. I spent years as a housewife and as you're seeing, it's more than a full-time job. I had two sons of my own and in my second marriage we also had custody of my husband's twin boys who were 5 when we married. He also had another son that came some weekends who was 3. In that marriage all I seemed to have time for was cooking and real laundry. Since I enjoy yardwork and a lot of other activities, I found I just wasn't cut out for that many kids.

It's good that you're getting so much experience at parenting before you have your own kids. You won't have a lot of surprises when you start raising your own family.

Lets see....cleaned out my closet and then I went shopping. I went over to Ross and bought the most beautiful set of glasses. They set me back $130 but were worth it. They are crytal with gold trim and I got quite a few:

12 Low Ball
12 Hight Ball
12 All purpose goblets
12 Wine goblets
12 Liquor glasses
12 Arak cups

I'm so excited! Since I came back from my trip to Jordan last year, I try to go out twice per month and get a few things for our place. I've got a ton of stuff now good.gif but still need alot more. My mom keeps yelling at me because she thinks I'm not gonna leave anything for people to buy at my Bridal Shower laughing.gif Oh well whistling.gif

I will be off to the gym in a bit...

I'm almost done reading the chapters I had scheduled to read for today. Did you all know that it's illegal to advertise on tombstones in Roanoke Virginia!? This chapter is on advertising you might have guessed.

Abdel has been surfing the web and we've found some really cute furniture we want to buy:

www.primousse.com

He's also showing me some awesome houses in Fez for rent. I told him ok, lets go!

http://houseinfez.com/

These sites are good for decorating ideas if nothing else.

Ok, now to try to finish the last 8 pages of economics - False Advertising - Here I come!

Catherine.... DAY LILIES ??!!!! I absolutely heart.gif LOVE heart.gif them !!!! They have to be one of the best perennials for... well... just about any garden. LOL you can stick them in the ground and almost forget them, and they will put on a super show and multiply year after year. I think they out-perform almost anything else you can plant. I bought my house from a lady who was president of the local hemerocallis society, and she had just gone crazy with them in the garden. I have a LOT.... probably more than a hundred... so I get blooms from late April or early May until October. Even so, I'm always adding more ! I should have some in bloom soon.... I'll try to take some pics and post them.

Wow Kelly your list makes me feel so lazy ! tongue.gif You are Super Woman !

Well let's see what I did today.... a little gardening, cleaned the house, did some laundry, went to the grocery store, then made a pile of those little spinach pies while watching my Spurs take on the Kings. Heehee we blew out Sacramento by 32 points kicking.gif

By the way, I tinkered with the recipe that I had posted... I added a lot of za'tar (oregano.) While they were in the oven, Mahmoud was pacing around sniffing the air saying "I'm waiting them on fire." tongue.gif In Palestine, they call them "kraas" in the common dialect, but for some reason that word never sounds very appetizing to me.

I have a movie to watch tonight.... "Death in Gaza." It's kind of a unique film because the director was actually shot to death by an Israeli soldier during the filming. I'll post my "review" of it later... maybe we can have a thread about films.

Wow!!! Well, I have about 8 of them but I think I am doubling that this year with the ones I bought today. I have some Oriental Lilies, Toad Lilies (only bloom in the fall and look like little Orchids) and Fairy Lilies (?? they are multiplying each year too so I will have lots of blooms this summer). My day lilies are just starting to put on blooms . . . just the Stella D'oro so far! And, MK, you are right . . . they are great for a blooming show and withstand the Texas heat quite well . . . that's why I am buying more! Next year I'll probably expand even more . . . maybe I should join that group, LOL!! They are having a big show in June at the Dallas Arboretum, so I might have to go check it out.

MK, you are way ahead of me in the cooking area . . . I guess it helps to have someone around to cook for.

Awww sweetie.... you made me want to cry ! Insha'allah your husband is coming home very soon heart.gif

I just noticed today my Stellas are setting buds, too. And the first bearded iris is starting to send up a flower. We had a good rain a couple of nights ago.... that's all it took. I never tried Toad lilies, but I've seen them and they are so unique.... very pretty ! I've had some oriental lilies in the past, but they don't last more than a couple of years before they croak in our heat. But Fairy lilies (zephyranthus ?) do quite well here.... they are sometimes called Rain lilies because they will pop up every time it rains.

Now I have an urge to go to the garden store....

You don't need to actually move there... you go stay long enough to get your marriage registered and file the visa application with the embassy... after that you can leave and he can deal with the rest until he gets his visa .... at least that's what the embassy in Cairo told me and I know someone who's done that in the past.
If you can get it done in two or three weeks you might could just take some vacation time?

Hey, I got it!! biggrin.gif

I got freaked out when I saw my user name as the starter of the thread, laughing.gif , then I thought maybe it was because of the "dueling days" that was going on.

tongue.gif But thanks for the "welcome back" . . . AND did you know that it is time (at least in Texas) to plant bulbs and perennials for next spring??? My garden suffered major damage this summer due to the drought and the fact that I spent part of the summer in Hong Kong and the Los Angeles area . . . hard to water when you aren't at home. I am going to the nursery tomorrow to look at some bulbs and fall blooming plants . . . need some color out front for an anticipated "Welcome to the United States" (insha'allah before Thanksgiving). I will post that news when/if I know more.
