Hi all,

I'm moving over to the US next Friday and I need to find some insurance for my baggage. Normal travel insurance is no good because I won't be returning to the UK and that is a requirement of all the policies.

So how did you all do it?

Thanks,
Gillian

I did not.

I, however, am a complete chicken and don't like to take risks. ohmy.gif

Ours will only be half insured. I have a bit of coverage through my credit card company since I bought my tickets with that card. For my husband's luggage though, we're risking it as we had to pay with a different card that doesn't offer the same thing. Have you bought tickets yet? Do any of your credit cards offer a bit of baggage insurance if you buy the tickets with that card?

EDIT - Hehe. My questions must seem silly! I've re-read and see that you're going next Friday!

I've managed to find some. The Post Office offers this kind of insurance but it's not on their website, you have to ring them to arrange it.

If anyone else is interested the number is 0800 169 9999. The policy also covers such things as flight delays/cancellation and emergency medical for three days - and it only costs £16. good.gif

Thanks for updating with that - good to know for future reference!

You take risks everyday, its the size and ability to handle that matter.

Baggage is small beer, what ae you doing about Medical Insurance?

Nothing for the few weeks before I'm married. Although if I can find a company that will insure my health for £16 I'll gladly pay it. smile.gif

Swinton Insurance Brokers covered me for 17 days on a one way ticket. For 40 pounds

I have a worldwide travel insurance policy which will cover me for my trip home to Aus, and then my trip to the US - the guy explained that as I'll be settling there and not returning to the UK, it will expire 24 (or maybe 48?) hours after my entry... getting the worldwide policy for a year was cheaper than getting bits of things (I've done trips to Germany and France already, and will probably do a couple more Europe trips before leaving), so I'm covered smile.gif

So you have to go back to Oz for part of the visa thing or are you just visiting your family before you move?

visiting family and clearing my storage space wink.gif

plus I thought it might be nice for David to, y'know, meet my parents before I marry him laughing.gif
