For all those who wonders about bringing your mom/dad from Vietnam for a short visit--

I never thought it was this easy, within a blink, i would say! The whole procedure takes about 1 week total...from the time i sent my mom the documents to the time she picked up the visa...

What she needs from you:
-Letter of invitation
-Your notorized I-134 (if you are the one who sponsors for everything) with its supplement docs ( Bank account, home owner's docs, pay check, employee's verification letter, W2 etc...)

What the Consulate needs from her:
-Visa application form( download from http://hochiminh.usconsulate.gov/business_..._visitors.html). You can help her to fill out these form and send back to her
-Receipt for visa appointment interview ($131). It is so cool that when you come to pay for the interview, they will give you the date and ask if it works for you....My mom had only 2 days wait for the interview.
-passport
-home owner's docs.

The C/O who interviewed her actually required to see only the form I-134 and invitation letter. No other docs requested and he asked her only 5 questions ( when did i go to america, how did i meet my husband, who does she live with in Vietnam, how long will she be gone, Am i a US citizen yet?)

With all the wait for the K1 visa, I would never think the tourist visa be this easy. My mom will be here in a week kicking.gif kicking.gif

Cheers to all,

T.

Great news Thuy!
It helps alot when you know what you're doing smile.gif Enjoy TET with mom! good.gif

I heard that 60+ years old got their tourist Visa easier, is that your case?
Thanks

Kim's nephew works for a company whose offices are in Japan, Singapore and US, applied and got his B1/B2 Visa within 3 Business days! Visa is easy to obtain, not impossible! With a 60-70yrs grand mom applies to visit her children, that helps also!

My mom is 49 going on 50.

I know most people don't buy health insurance, that's probably not a good idea if something happens, not sure how much would that cost per month, do you know?
Thanks
patricks
congrats...

We had baby girl in August , Thuy's mom came here last November from VN.....Thuy is very happy and her mom is a great help.

Plus, I used frequent Flier miles to bring "Ba Ngoai" here smile.gif

Have a good delivery......

One more Thing:

We ordered SBTV (Sai Gon Broadcasting TV network) through local cable company.....It's a great "temporary" $15/mo investment

My wife's mom doesn't care about the political overtunes, but she likes the afternoon VNs language soap operas while Thuy and I go to work smile.gif

just something to consider

Who are you talking about buying insurance for? If it is for a foreign relative you may run into a brick wall. The companies I have talked to require a S.S. number.

Thanks ThuyCannon, wow a boy!

Our baby Girl's VNs name "Thuy Ngan"

Regarding Medical Insurance for overseas visitors to USA:

http://www.travelinsure.com/what/vusahigh.htm?32701

After paying premium for X amount of time. Then, you'd have to pay the medical provider before the insurance will reimburse you....

Oh, and one more thing....

Make sure you deliver that boy before February 7th!

It's still year of the "Pig"
