They are name checks.

If the name is a common name, then you will more than likely get many "hits". The more people returned, the longer it takes them to prove that you are indeed you and not someone else who shares the same name as you (who may have a criminal record).

Unfortunately, there is no maxiumum time that these checks can take. Some people can go through them very quickly if there are not many matches, others can take a long time.
