Where exactly will you live, Sally?
Cecile and Bryan
Lol yes it seems like it's a weather for England right now. Must be yours. Oh well, if you're having sunshine, maybe that means that we will get it next week smile.gif

The bad thing with air conditioning in the USA is that usually it's too cold. I remember the last time I went there (a year and a half ago!) it was in August, and I almost had to wear a pullover everytime we were in a store. I ended up having a cold!!

It just struck me that you'll get to divide your lives between The Netherlands and Hawaii - sounds like an idyllic combination to me! Actually I suppose that we are all very lucky - few others get such a combination of cultures as are found on VJ.

I've had about four hours sleep. I haven't looked in the mirror yet but assume I look terrible.

lol idyllic? You have to explain that one to mee, I never felt living in the Netherlands was such an idyllic situation haha (plus the 12 hour time difference and 24 hour travel time doesn't make things too idyllic either lol). But ok, as for a combination of cultures, that is very true indeed.

Lol yeah to the time change.

I went to see Jay in July one year and omg it was so hot like 120 degrees, im gonna go into hibernation. ha ha. Im sure we can find something to do in the air conditioning lol.

120?? blink.gif omg

Well, admittedly I have never been to The Netherlands, but I hear nothing but good things about it. And, true, the long flights and hour differences are going to be annoying - strange to think I may see all of my friends and family once every other year or so. Still, as much as I dislike the UK right now it's nice to know that in the future Alex and I will have the option to return, and that our children will be able to have dual citizenship.

Hmmm... ok, I have to admit, my country has lots of pros but it also has cons in my opinion why it isn't that idyllic to me... then again, I think it is something everywhere.

About the dual citizenship, that is one of the reasons why we choose the US to live in for now (that among many others). When we get kids, they will automatically be both Dutch and US citizens. I can keep my Dutch passport as long as I am married to her after the naturalization which is also nice and she does not have to do a naturalization test when we want to move back to Europe after I become a citizen (don't ask me why she has to do it when I am not yet a citizen, it's plain weird the Dutch law at the moment). It would be so hard for us to live in the Netherlands right now as they really closed the borders for immigrants, we would need to live in Belgium for 5 years and then move to the Netherlands based on the EU laws.. it's an odd situation but oh well, the current choice is obviously the best one for us right now when it comes to this part but, like said, there are so many things where we looked at smile.gif

Why do you dislike the UK?

After the excessive flooding of last summer (Sheffield was hit pretty badly) I'm finding the winter far too long and cold and the grey, rainy skies miserable. I'm also growing a little restless - I've lived in Sheffield for seven years and wouldn't mind a change of pace, although I suppose that could be easily achieved by moving to another city.

Some aspects of society worry me - I'm not at all keen on pretty much anything the current government has done (very frustrating that a general election hasn't been called yet) and job opportunities are scarce (although granted the US economy is pretty poor right now). I would also be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly perturbed by the growing rate of violent crimes as reported in the media, too.

Dislike is perhaps too strong a word - but I'm certainly looking forward to experiencing life in a different country. yes.gif

I dont know if that was unusally hot that year, kept away from going in July or August since lol.

Woah - only 4 million people live in Alabama! That's quite the sparsely populated state. I know many other states have even fewer people living in them - quite hard to comprehend given the size of most of them.

Not sure I could cope with America's deep south myself - I like hot but not that hot!

From what you said about your country, yes I guess you're ready for a big change in your life smile.gif

I'm actually looking forward to having cold winters and hot summers (nothing like 120F though! 95 degrees is probably the highest I can bear), instead of the 'kind of cold' winters and warm summers we've had in France for the past 4 years. Even though I'm sure after a few years I will hate when it gets too cold and too hot tongue.gif

It doesn't really get to 120 in Alabama - although it can sure feel like it with the humidity. What you probably saw was a "discomfort" index which is a "feels like...." measure. Basically the hottest you'll get in Alabama is 105 and that's not too common. You can expect an exceptional amount of humidity - which is what really makes it miserable. The only place in the US where it gets that hot is in the Southwestern Desert areas - Las Vegas and Death Valley and all that. That heat fortunately is dry so your sweat evaporates almost immediately. I've lived in both areas of the country and much prefer the hotter temperatures in the SW to the less hot but much more humid temperatures in the South.

Hehe - there's a great April fools on another set of forums I frequent.

The administrator used me as the 'trigger'. When I started posting this morning my avatar had changed to an over-sized picture Kurt Cobain (normal avatar sizes are 64 x 64 px; this was 80 x 80 px).

Of course the size and subject matter was incredibly noticeable so everyone started commenting on it - 'hey why is your avatar of Kurt Cobain and why is it so huge?'

Well, turned out 'Kurt Cobain' was a trigger word. Whenever a forumer said 'Kurt Cobain' they were 'killed' - meaning their avatar also changed and they could no longer post in that forum. Instead, people who had been 'killed' gained access to a secret hidden forum. Pretty cool!

Since people were 'killed' they couldn't post to say why they were killed, so people are continuing to ask about the avatars and thus the infection is spreading. biggrin.gif

Here's another good April Fools:

QUOTE
Speaking of cake, a favorite joke of mine is to put a delicious looking cake in the office break room with "Happy April Fools Day" written in large letters in the frosting. Of course, the cake is perfectly fine and 100% edible, but no one will trust it. Its amusing seeing people staring it down, debating, and daring each other to take a bite all day long.

I like April Fools that aren't cruel or messy! A lot of jokes are one of the two, but the forums one and the cake one both seem good to me smile.gif

How is everyone doing today? Tax season has really whipped my butt and I have only been able to catch up on many of your posts on the weekends. But I have to say you all have had quite a bit of fun conversations in my absense. I love the April Fools ideas. All day yesterday I was trying to think of something funny to get my boss. He is a Starbucks addict and I came so close to running into his office with a lie that the Starbucks down the street from our office (he stops in there at least 3-4 times a day) was on fire.

But...I am a horrible liar and I would have busted out laughing before I could such a joke out. So I sat quiet yesterday and on guard for people who might have tried to pull one over on me.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hello Everyone! Hope all are well! I was just reading through and it looks like people are getting interviews scheduled! That is so exciting!

Well my Louis never got the Packet 3 but the Embassy in Barbados said we could just download files and send them in. They received the package yesterday and I e-mailed them just to let them know. Hopefully I will hear back today with some news.

I am so excited! He will be here soon - I KNOW IT!

My daughter and I are going to St Lucia next week for about 17 days or so, can't wait to see Louis...and have some fun in the sun! Woo! I am hoping he gets interview while I am there. Not sure I can go to Barbados with him but he will be fine on his own. :-)

quick question you guys!
for the Affidavit of Support form, where exactly can I get it notarized exactly I think I read somewhere you can at a bank? could I just bring it to my bank? or would have to go some special place?
Wanted to do this all Friday so if I could get responses soon it would be great smile.gif

The bank would work, and if it is your bank they probably wont charge.
Call them and check, otherwise just look up Notary Public in the phone book.

I hope you have a great trip, Iriecat! It'll hopefully not be too sad when you part as you know your man will be right behind you! biggrin.gif

I hope that the first January filer to be approved at their interview tells us, and perhaps then we can start a January filers in America thread in the Moving Here and Your New Life In America forum?
