I have my interview next monday and have been looking at cheap mobile phone calls to the USA. Obviously I will be phoning Randy as soon as I have the news but don't want to pay the extortionate fees that vodafone want to charge me for international calls.
I found one called just-dial, apparantly you just send a text to them and they give you £5.00 credit (the text costs £5, I think thats how they do it). Calls cost 1p a minute plus another 2p a minute for the company (found that in the small print smile.gif ). But at 3p a minute that seems very cheap.
Has anyone used this company or does anyone recommend one I can use?
Thanks

There is a phone box just up the road from the consulate as you are not allowed to take mobiles to the consulate. In this phonebox you should be able to use www.bestminutes.co.uk number which costs 1p per minute to any US landline or cell smile.gif

Thankyou for your reply smile.gif
I had read somewhere that you can take a mobile phone to the embassy but that you have to leave it at reception and pick it up on the way out. I'm hoping I can do that as I am going to London with a friend and will need to contact her once I've finished.
I looked at bestminutes and they will let you call from a mobile phone, I will just have to contact vodafone to see how much they will charge for the 0844 number. I will contact them tomorrow to see what they will charge.

I contacted vodaphone and they said for the number it was £1.60 or more a minute so I would use the payphone as it is on the way to Oxford street anyway.
When I was at the embassy in November they were taking phones off of people so I guess you may be able to although I did not see anyone get them back. There is a security member as you first go behind the barriers so you can ask them before your friend leaves to be on the safe side smile.gif

Good luck

Security take your mobile from you at the gate and give you a ticket so you can get it back when you leave. I used to use a mobile phone network called Mobile World....the sim cards are only sold at the Carphone warehouse for 10 quid. It's 5p a minute to US landlines and cell phones.
