My husband and I have a 12 year age difference. Some days we see things differently. Mostly, it's a non-issue.
Communicate....communicate....communicate. That's my advice.

As far as the Jamaican embassy is concerned I've only heard of a couple of people where the "age" issue was addressed. Having said that I would certainly make sure that his maturity level falls into your acceptable parameters. Some men mature at an early age and some never do no matter how old they are
Welcome and best wishes on the rest of your journey!

Hey Lawny,
I work here at the airport in Charleston, WV and met a lady here at my counter that is getting married in Jamaica in February. She is in her 40's (41-42) and he is in his mid 20's. I would not worry about it. Love has no boundaries. She is from Tennessee and of course, he is in Jamaica.
Peace & Love,

My first husands third wife is the same age as our daughter. So there is a 20+ year age difference. However she is getting close to 30 which is when he runs. Next time he should hit the point when he is married to someone younger than his childern.

Hello,
I am 12 years older than my hubby. He's alot more mature at 26 then most American men I know at 40...lol. I wouldn't sweat it. Love knows no age difference. There will be times that you realize the age difference but for the majority of the time you will never think about it. Congrats on the engagement! Good Luck in the process! ~Rhonda~

You will find a lot of folks here on VJ with large age differences. In our case it is 24 years. I think when you are dating across cultures the age makes less difference because you don't expect to have parallel cultural experiences anyway.
For instance, my future bride is far more mature than a comparable American woman of 21 simply because life and expectations for women in the Philippines are so much harder than here in the U.S.

I am also older than my USC fiancé by some 8 and a half years. However, he was married for 10 years and has three kids, and has been supporting himself since he was 21 (something quite unheard of in my home country of Italy) - while I have never been married, or even lived with anyone but my parents. Besides, my worst relationship experience was with a man over 13 years my senior... Talk about immaturity!
That said, in Italy couples where the man is even significantly older than the woman are more readily accepted than those where the woman is even a few years older. There is still a common misconception about a man wanting a younger woman for reasons of physical attractiveness, and obviously many think an older woman is going to become almost repulsive as she ages. Well, to each their own, I suppose...
