The embassy contacted me, the petitioner, by email and re-sent a packet III with instructions to forward to my wifey. Is this common? I thought they were supposed to contact her directly?

That does seem strange. I was under the impression that, as soon as the petition reaches the embassy, the foreign spouse becomes the petitioner (sorry if that is the incorrect terminology) instead of the beneficiary (at least that is how it works for London). I will become the beneficiary again when we apply for adjustment of status.

It's been a while for me but I think the consulate in Jakarta sent the interview instruction package to my husband too because he has been the one following up with the case after it left NVC. But when they scheduled appointment, they called me directly. And they scheduled the interview very quickly. In my case, the only hold up was the police certificate from the Netherlands - without this police certificate, I would have gotten interview within 1 week of they receiving case from NVC.

I would not worry about it - good luck on the upcoming interview!

Right, it varies. I was surprised that I received packet 3 here by snail mail last month. I forwarded to my wife to complete and return to the embassy. All went well with that, now just waiting for an interview date.

We got the same packet in October and already did the Documents check, just posted the question out of curiousity to see if it was a major deviation. This just seemed strange given that it didnt seem to meet our understanding of which one of us would be contacted next.
