2 more pounds!! yay!
Henna Rose
Congrats, Amal ! That's a great loss good.gif Have fun at your reunion, Jen and don't stress too much as most of your classmates waistlines will probably have expanded much more than yours over the years !

I've hit a plateau and it's frustrating ~ I'm taking my own advice and drinking the x-tra water, not weighing in too often, I don't feel like I am taking in more calories than before. The first 20lbs although not quick, was steady. Maybe I am just in a rut, any ideas? Maybe I need a few Hot Yoga classes to drop a quick 10lbs unsure.gif
Jenn!
Hey what do you guys do as your size gets smaller? Do you buy new clothes or do you have your clothes "taken in"? I've never done that, in fact, I think I'll have to go looking for a tailor because I can't sew for my life. And, not to jinx myself of course, but if you get clothes taken in, you can get them taken back out again, right?

You can get them let out some. It depends on how much they have to cut out of the material. I only get expensive things taken in.

Is it costly?

i.e. I'd be better off buying new Old Navy pants than getting them taken in?

Oh heck yeah, you're going to pay more to have them taken in than an ON pair of pants is worth. I have 2 pairs of pants from Banana republic I paid to take in because they were $120 each originally. But $60 or less pants I forget it. You can always save them as pregnancy pants. That's what I did. Of course now I'm wearing them. pffftttt.

Thanks, that's kind of what I figured. I generally won't spend more than $40-$50 on a pair of pants, so I guess I'm just gonna have to buy some new ones! I'd better start saving up... unsure.gif

Me either. I needed some dress slacks so i splurged, but that's all I have that's nice.
sereia
yes always save SOME fat clothes. i gained/lost weight once already a while ago and when i lost the weight i threw away ALL my fat clothes. now that i've gained weight back i wish i had them! lol

julianna
OK! So today I did some crunches. I can tell I'm losing weight slowly, but I think it's mostly from not eating like a crazed maniac.

Out of curiosity, what is the name for this style of dance? It's like belly dance crossed with african, right? It actually looks like a bunch of workable stomach exercises.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yChT7ZgHbbk...feature=related

I am probably the only person who ever watched this thinking "that looks like a great type of crunch and lifting the solar plexis like that has got to be great."

ETA: holy crap. I suggest you try that beginning s. p. lift and rotation if you REALLY want to feel some work in the abs. OMG!
sereia
G-d I hate her! She's so freaking hot and an amazing dancer. I think you're right. I see some African style moves mixed with belly dancing, mixed with Latin. Very sexy!

HAHA! Yes! That's exactly the effect it had on me.

Hey Julianna, it *is* a blend of Bellydance w/ Brazilian/Spanish/Columbian/Latin dance. Shakira is half Lebanese and half Columbian (?) - can't remember. Most of what she's doing are sharp isolations from BD. My friend teaches a "BellyCore" class & a BellyRobics-type class that utilizes a lot of what Shakira's doing here. If done properly, you can work up a sweat just doing rib circles and lifts & drops. Also, isolating the abs for sharp, controlled hip/pelvic movement is an amazing workout.

Yeah, Latin dance in itself in a mixture of African, Native American, and Spanish/Portuguese dances. She just seemed ot be taking some of the really forceful and "big" moves from African and mixing it with Belly. It's actually an interesting synthesis. Just lifting the ribs is really a good workout if you do it right so i don't doubt that you could get a lot out of this. Plus, it looks more fun than the gym.
amal
I think the moves could be obtained by consumating ur marriage A LOT while in the standing position. She did it alone, therefore proving that one does not need a partner to make those moves... if u perfected those moves...can u imagine how much ur SO would beg for intimate times....holy crap!!!

back in the day.... I went from a size 14 to a size 8 and had 5 suits taken in for a total of $200 or so. This was about 12 years ago. The suits were expensive so no biggie there but if you're talking about stuff from Old Navy just save a few of the more comfy pants/shirts as fat clothes and give the rest to Goodwill. Then buy some new stuff. They just had a stuff a bag sale over there recently when we got some summer clothes for the girls.

The idea of doing any belly dancing moves or crunches makes me wanna hurl right now. Irony with me is that now that I CAN eat since I'm not on a weight limit thing, I CANT eat due to nauseau sad.gif

I have to go food shopping in a few and am dreading every minute of it. blech

5 to 10 days. Surgery was monday afternoon. The pain is definitely bearable. I'm taking 2 advil every four hours and am fine, it's the nausea from the gen'l anesthesia that's the killer. blech.

OK so I have approx 3 months until I go to israel.
I want to drop 2 jeans sizes by then, and be very very very very toned.
Too much to ask?
Today I have eaten well so far, and worked out circuit training for an hour.

Sounds doable to me - good luck!

I've decided to skip my workouts for the next two weeks because I just have too much to do in preparation for my exams. I still plan to keep up with my dieting though. I'm going to count on you guys to help me motivate to get into my workout routine again as soon as my exam is over. Good luck to you guys in the meantime!

I am so jealous! How awesome! I keep getting to stare at it from across the Jordan. Ammar really wants to go but thinks going would probably be heck for him as a Jordanian with the Israelis.

Not too much to ask! I think you could do it if you really watched what you ate and worked intensively. DO you run at all? I dropped 2 pants sizes in a month when I was already thin by doing a walk-run combo 6 days a week for a total of 1.2 miles each time. Also drank a ton of water.

we are staring at each other. everytime i go to dead sea or drive thru the negev on the way to eilat i look at jordan, wish i could go check it out, i would love to go to petra. and of course my hubby would love to go too but thinks the same thing. sigh. i wish we could meet at the checkpoint and vouch for each other to cross over smile.gif

i dont like to run, but i have running shoes. i just need a doable program - i cant run and run and run without stopping. any ideas - what is your walk run program?

yes i am definately going to load up on water.

Can your husband buy a visa in advance? I know you can. I also know you can't get one at the Allenby/King Hussein bridge. So it has ot be in advance. It's 10jd, so about $14 each for a one-time entry. There are a bazillion (yes, the techincal number) Israelis over in Jordan doing the tourist route. Jordan is trying ot figure out how to get them to spend the night since tourism is all it has got. I'd recommend spending the night at Petra. That would be awesome if we could vouch for each other lol.

I hate running. Really. I may rather induce vomiting. But the thing is, it makes for great results. I was on an indoor track and it was 13 laps to make a mile. So I walked 2 laps, then ran 2, then walked two, then ran 2, etc. I did a whole mile and then did 3 walking laps at the end (two more laps than is needed to make the mile). It wasn't too bad and really it was slow jogging.

WOW ~ this thread was buried ! I had been avoiding the scale for weeks, i just weighed in and lost another 5 lbs. good.gif I have been super busy and not making it to the gym as much, but keeping a very close eye on my food intake to compensate. I'm starting to get the feel for this balancing act that is weight loss !
