Ok, I am not on a diet, but I do have an exercise related question and this crowd, disciplined as you are, seems a good one to ask.

Anyone do yoga? I have for years (but I still suck) and love it. I had a class I really liked but I keep missing it due to an ever changing schedule. Now I am looking for a good yoga podcast so I can do it at home. Anyone have one they like? I'm up for any suggestions, but prefer Vinyasa.

I know the obvious suggestion here is to get a good dvd, but I hate exercise dvds beacuse I can't do the same routine everyday without getting really bored really quickly. And somehow yoga just isn't the same if I have to stare at a tv screen while I am doing it. So, I am searching for good podcasts.

Have you heard of Hot Yoga (Bikram) it's done in a heated room and is supposed to be fantastic for loosening joints and muscles, has detoxing effects, clears brain fog. I just started researching it, anyone tried it? unsure.gif
jpaula
I've tried it but it is just WAY too hot for me. Gasping, dripping--it was ugly. I have no idea how everyone around me was so zen while I was dying. Now I take an unheated class in a studio where they have a heated class before me so the room is pretty warm but I can still breathe. The heat really does help so I wish I could bear the really hot class, but I am a wimp. Boy, do I have respect for anyone who can sweat it out like that though!

The only thing close to yoga that I've ever done is pilates but I was told to stop that, even though I loved it. sad.gif
jpaula
Why were you told to stop pilates? I would do it every day if classes didn't cost a fortune. I mean, really, a fortune. It is kind of absurd. But, pilates itself is amazing. I did a dvd for a while but, like I said before, got bored with the same thing over and over. Now I try to add some of what I remember into my daily stretching or somehwhere in the middle of yoga. Not quite the same as the real thing, but so it is for now. My alter ego does pilates every day and has perfect, strong and lithe, posture. She is also tall and has a perfect French accent.

My alter ego doesn't gain weight after eating a gallon of mint chocolate chip iced cream every night, jogs 20 miles everymorning and is fresh as a daisy by 6am whipping up nice hot breakfast stuffs for the kiddos, never procrastinates and you can eat off of her kitchen floor. tongue.gif

I dunno why not, the physical therapist told me my disk in my lower back is just too damaged, though I do the walk away the pounds video with no problems (when I do it whistling.gif )

I do bikram yoga from time to time. I would love to do it at least once a week but I never plan it. I have it in my calendar for this week we will see how it goes.
It totally relaxes your muscles, improves your flexibility, detoxes you and you lose about a lb of water weight during the class. its a 90 min class and its done in 108 degree heated room. It is very challenging.

i've always wanted to try bikram yoga. not sure why i never got off my lazy arse and didn't try it yet.

i've done hatha yoga plenty though (they have classes at my gym so i don't have to pay extra)

don't know anything about podcasts or anything though, sorry! smile.gif
charles!
i did yard work today, filled up the trailer with brush dead.gif
Jenn!
Never did do those lunges. 100 is a lot! (timewise I mean)

I'm thinking of shifting some of my weights time to cardio time starting this week.
bridget
Walked to the building from the pkg lot again today. Anyone check out the gross food thread in OT? Definitely a diet booster!

I think I'm going to do good this week only because I'm so nervous about my husband coming on Friday I constantly feel like I'm gonna puke! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA crying.gif rofl.gif laughing.gif omg thats too funny. Have u ever seen a whale try to do jumping jacks? I think it would be more damaging to do those than to eat a banana split. I'll let my alter ego do them..does that count? hey, they say u burn calories if ur heart rate is elevated... so .. if thinking about doing exercises causes my heart rate to rise.....that's technically exercise, right yes.gif
Jenn!
Yes, amal, you can watch a scary movie instead of doing jumping jacks. tongue.gif

SAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. I'm all over THAT!
Totally didn't stick to any diet whatsoever over the weekend. I didn't feel well enough to put forth the effort of starving. I'm back today to see if I can do it. Not weighed in yet either....no use since I"m sure I gained at least 5 pounds over the weekend. *sigh* at least it was a tasty coupla days good.gif

I don't trust the support beams in my house enough to do the jumping jacks.

If I tried to turn my feet out and spread my legs 3 feet apart (while standing tongue.gif) I'd collapse flat on the floor.

The only crunching I'm doing is eating celery.

you guys are cracking me up!

Jenn!
I'm finding the weekends difficult to watch what I'm eating too. This weekend, for example, I didn't leave the house at all...I was just studying the whole time. And I get bored and want a distraction, and sorry but sliced red peppers aren't going to cut it, lol. It's so much easier to stick to it during the work week. Now I remember why I gained weight in college!

i don't know what happened to me. i was doing so well.... then i happened to walk by baskin robbins on my way somewhere last night and i just wandered in like in a trance and ordered a cone with mint chip and pralines and cream and gobbled it down before i could realize what a HUGE mistake i made.

*sigh* at least today i'm being good.

p.s. i also happened to buy a big bottle of bailey's (and i haven't had a drink in FOREVER let alone a drink made out of CREAM ugh!!!) i didn't drink any...but its there in the garage fridge. hopefully i'll forget its there since its not the regular fridge. helpsmilie.gif

That sounds like me and smoking...outta the blue i'll trancelike, wander thru the cigarette lane at wally-world and next thing I know, I'm asking for my brand and forking over hte money for them. My problem is that I hate to see them go to waste so I smoke them and have to quit all over again.... there is no happy medium.

I just figured out a great way to do crunches. sit the bowl of cheezy poofs at our feets and lay back. we have to sit up to take a handfull so we'd get a few in, right??

hahahahahaha

yikes, i had a craving and succumed to it! ughh wacko.gif I don't know what happened, my mind kept thinking for days now about peanut butter and jelly sandwich....today I went to work and when I got out, I headed straight to the supermarket to get some "milk" . Well, yes I bought the bread and peanut butter and jelly, and my only defense is: I did get milk laughing.gif

Tomorrow will be a better day insha Allah rose.gif
MrsAmera
Ok gals I'm game. My little sister is getting married in November and I'm a flapper girl in the wedding (20's theme). So word has it I need to look sexy.

So I started today, pretty healthy lunch and breakfast I guess and I did a 45 minute workout, did a mile on the eliptical and a mile on the treadmill, about 250 calories burned! Not too bad of a start.

Hubby and I also decided we would cut our meat down to 3 dinners a week. So I'm on the hunt for vegerarian recipes..........

What's our challenge (I love this idea!!)
charles!
did more yard work today - cut down a huge bush and hauled that to the burn pile, then took the flatbed trailer to the burn pile and unloaded it. then loaded it back up with bushes i'd cut earlier tongue.gif
then it started raining.
amal
for those of u that can do sit-ups, and jump without causing tidal waves, go for it! i'll be there one day!

for the rest of us ... i say our challenge is to do can lifts. 2 equally heavy cans of some food item. and do slow lifts to the shoulder, above the head, shoulder, down to the sides. do 20 reps

then do 20 side twists. feet planted, knees slightly bent, arms out at shoulder height... to the left, hold, center, hold, right, hold.. u get the picture...

repeat twice then go have some twinkies in celebration of a work-out completed.

ha! amal
bridget
I'm out. Total pms got to me and I succumbed to the evil Carvel b-day cake. crying.gif which led to about 5 twizzlers crying.gif which led to a Lindt's dark chocolate truffle crying.gif which led to 6 hard sourdough pretzels crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif

I guess it's not so bad when you look at what I had today which was 1/2 egg (thanks to that stupid Balut picture in OT), 3 oz of chicken w/1cup salad for lunch and the same for dinner BUT I'm counting carbs so totally blew it. crying.gif crying.gif

Hi, everyone. I joined at the beginning of this thread and dropped out. An encouraging soul pointed me back in here. I've broken my goals into smaller chunks this time. First one is to get rid of the seven pounds I've put on since Christmas, and I'll go from there. I've done pretty well the last couple of days, so we'll see. I'm in for the challenge today.
MrsAmera
I'm in for the challenge and will do 2 miles again today at the gym.
sereia
readyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? GO!
julianna
I did the one for today. Someone come up for one tomorrow, please!
Jenn!
I'll add them on to my workout later. I go down to the gym around 6.

Good news! They just gave us free 1/2 hour sessions with a personal trainer here at work! Mine is tomorrow. Any suggestions on specifics I should ask her? I plan on telling her what I'm doing currently, what my goals are, and finding out what she thinks of my approach.

Maybe see if you can get her to give you a sustainable/long-term kind of plan.. one that perhaps involves a graduation of difficulty, etc. That way you can use this one session for a long time smile.gif
sereia
maybe have her teach you some core strength workouts.

Where are you ladies??!? I did the challenge and I did 2 miles on the treadmill and eliptical so it was good. Now it's just the diet part....

I, the committee of one, elect you to make teh new challenge of the day smile.gif
Jenn!
Thanks for the suggestions about the personal trainer, Julianna and Jen, I'll let you know how it all goes.

I wasn't able to do the 3 miles yesterday. I had to stop at 2.5, but I kept up with the 10:00 mile pace, so that was good at least. Maybe next week...

Jenn!
Question for those of you that do Weight Watchers...

I'm not doing WW, but a lot of food has points on it, so I just wanted to get an idea of how many points you can eat in a day. I'm sure it's based on current weight and goals, etc., but just a rough idea. 20? 30?

30 would be a high. I would stick to the low 20's if you want to lose rapidly. High 20's to do it slowly and comfortably. That's for you, though, someone bigger would need to be in the lower 30's.
