oh well i guess i'll start tomorrow. husband left a few hours ago and i'm extremely sad and pigged out on two pieces of margarita pizza i added goat cheese to. as long as i don't eat anything later i'm okay for the day. sad.gif

Jenn!
I'm eating about 1900 calories a day and burning about 400 through exercise. That's supposed to result in a 1-1.5 lb weight loss per week for me. So far it's been working pretty well. I really want to be able to keep it off - that's far more important than seeing high numbers on the scale.

Atkins you will lose fast, but just put it back on! Not a good long term solution! (IMO of course, I know there are people who have succeeded in long term weight loss this way)

I love margarita pizza. I'm amazed you stopped at two! blink.gif

i used to work with a famous pastry chef who did the atkins diet and lost tons of weight. who woulda thought? he did STAY on it though... apparently he lost the weight long before i worked with him and he still didn't eat sugar. i can't imagine the willpower he had working with all those desserts and not sneaking a taste!

Bridget, you said you went from a 16W to a 14W, right? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is that different from a regular 14? Or a 13 in juniors for that matter? I always thought it was all the same thing!

I believe a 14W is like a normal 15. I'm going by Lane Bryant sizes here. It's basically a way to make us Pooh shaped girls feel better about buying a bigger size. blush.gif

Weird though that Old Navy 14 (not 14W) fits me but Gap 14 doesn't so I think it depends on the store too.

I see, kind of, lol. So a 15 is different from a 16? Does that mean that a 14W is really a 16 and a 16W is really an 18? When I buy clothes, they're often labeled 9/10 or 11/12, etc. I'm so foncused!

Yeah, Old Navy runs big - I always buy a size down from my normal size there.

ETA: Oops, I mean Old Navy has correct sizes and everywhere else runs a size too small! wink.gif

phhhhlt!!!!! New York Inc runs big too. So does Eddie Bauer. I think Ann Taylor runs true to size which is why I NEVER shop there. lol

Weighed myself this am and I was down one pound but then had to go to doctor to get pre-op bloodwork done and their scale say's i'm 2 pounds heavier than my scale but my scale is supposed to be wicked good. All I had between weighing myself here and going there is one instant breakfast shake and 2 cups of coffee. Surely those don't weigh 2 whole pounds!!! omg i'm gonna be freakin' till this thing is over. crying.gif

Amal- calories are different for everyone.. it's better to take into account eh weight you want to be and the height you are and then look and see how many calories you are supposed to be eating every day... and then go from that point for weight loss. At 5'4" if I wanted to be like 120lbs, I'd be down at about 1700 calories to maintain weight. If I wanted to be 110, it would be about 1500. 2000 is not a scenario for me in any regards unless I was seriously exercising.

what was the name of that website we used to go to for weight loss? I wanna see what kind of calorie intake it recommends for my body type... but can't remember the name...

i found it i found it. I'm supposed to have between 1750 and 2010 calories a day to get to my first goal weight in 1 year...yikes!
sereia
i'm confused. i used the mayo clinic calculator and if i plugged in my current weight it said to eat 2200 calories a day with being active. if i plugged in my approximate goal weight with being active it said to eat 2150. why would they be so similar? maybe i'm just seriously stressed out and tired from my recent events but it doesn't make sense. i plugged in the same height and activity level yet very different weights....i think i need to go back to bed.

Because that's assuming you're just maintaining. I don't think your actual weight makes a huge difference in terms of the number of calories for maintenance. You can't eat the number of calories suggested for maintaining your goal weight in order to *reach* your goal weight.

Try this one if you want to see how much you should be eating in order to lose weight: http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/calories-goal.php

Those are maintenance levels of calories, not for weight loss. Your body burns a certain amount every day, and that doesn't vary all that much by weight. It varies a lot more by activity.

I plugged in my weight goal (drop 7 pounds) and it picked a date at the rate of one pound per week so I'd be at my goal weight by May. But it said to eat only 1600 per day, and I don't think I'd be able to keep off the weight if I dropped the calories that low.

That seems reasonable. If you start a good exercise regimen you should be able to do that and still eat pretty well!
sereia
okay that calculator said to eat 2000 calories a day to lose 1.5# a week. goal date is wayyyy too far off though. *shudders*

I seriously think I'm done with this liquid crap. I don't know how my friend lasted two weeks. She said it was because it was required to not have your stomach digest solids before having her lap band surgery but still I would have said faggetaboutit after a couple of days. Fish for dinner tonight!!!!
sereia
liquid diets are soooo hard! my mom's friend does one called "optifast" (i think) and loses weight, then gains it all back, then goes back on it, then gains it all back. its a disaster! i can't imagine not chewing anything for months on end!

i ate a pita with a persian cucumber, tomato, sliced roast turkey, and a schmear of labne on it for lunch.

later its fruit and salad and something light for dinner!

we can do this!!!

It's pure hell on earth. I feel bad for my friend too 'cause she had the surgery sometime in august I think and since that time she's only lost 18 pounds. That's what I've lost in only a couple of months by just dieting and not going through this huge surgery and having to go back and refilling the tube thing.

Anyways my jaw feels weird too. I just can't take not crunching things!!!
sereia
my dad also had the lapband in june of last year. he lost about 50lbs but his eating has definitely gotten substantially bigger and he needs to go get it tightened. he's been lazy going in so he hasn't lost nearly as much weight as he should have by now!

if i could, i would get the lapband or the sleeve surgery. my bmi isn't high enough though.
julianna
Today I had a regular carnation instant breakfast with 1% milk, a large pita, 1cup of basmati rice and some vegetables in soy sauce. Sigh. Off the wagon today LOL.

I am always really bad at eating fruit! I have some strawberries now, but sometimes I go days without it. isn't that bad?

LOL Bridget! Yeah, I was doing mostly liquid. Now my off the wago though is really because I ate that large piece of bread AND rice together.

What about those refrigerated fruit cups? Costco sells a pack of 8 of tropical fruit cups in an extra light syrup that is sooo yummy. Also portion control and they have like 80 calories I think. I have no problems eating fruit... I LOVE it. Veggies are another story. hehe I do love veggies too...but for some reason I tend to choose carbs and dairy more often! wink.gif

You may have to religiously count your calories for a few weeks until you get a sense of what is too much or not enough. I did that and it was really interesting to see what i was eating and what was in what. Then i got to a point where I could sense if I had a 20oz soda, 6 glasses of water, a stirfry, and a salad maybe I still had 300 more calories or 400 left to make up my day... it really helped to go through that initial stage. If you look up all the ingrediants ot things you eat (if you're cooking) with the word "calories" after it (so like cauliflower calories) you can get a count off of varying websites. The other thing to watch out for are certain food ingrediants like high fructose corn syrup.

thanks for the ideas. I'll try it. We'll see how it goes.

Meh, Mr. Turtle turned around again. unsure.gif

Two steps forward, one step back. I guess I can live with that.

My whole family was telling me how different I looked at Easter, so at least I know I'm making progress, even though the scale is not my friend!

Well looking different is most of the abttle IMO. I know for me I wouldn't care if I weight 140lbs as long as I looked like I did when I was 110 LOL.
