lost only 1 pound this week. getting nervous since i need to be down by 6 pounds by april 20.
Jenn!
Only 1 pound today?! At that rate you'll be like 35 pounds lighter by your surgery.

I think I'm gonna weigh myself today. I had a bad food weekend having company and everything, but I'm hoping it won't set me back too much. I'm not feeling very confident about losing 11 more pounds by 4/25 (my original goal).

Oh never mind, you mean you weighed yourself today and lost 1 pound for the week? It's still progress....

Well, when I originally set the goal, 18 pounds in 12 weeks didn't sound all that difficult. I refuse to drastically cut calories/carbs though since that's a surefire way for me to just gain it all right back. I think I can at least do 5 more by then though.

Yeah lemme tell ya if it weren't for the pressure that I'm under in order to have the operation I would have binged bigtime by now. This is no fun at all. I don't even know how many calories I'm eating/day but I would venture a guess that it's no more than 1,000.

5 by then is definitely doable if you stick to it.
julianna
OMG! I just went through the PMS crave, and now I am in the phase where I don't want to eat.. so I'm actually sticking to this this time. i need to get my apetite under control. Some of it is going ito the warmer weather... it does help with my being able to stop eating like crazy. My fat jeans are tight again so something has to give... and I am goiung to have to stick with this.

I also lost 1lb. this week, but I'll take it! Bridget ~ depending on your current weight 1,000 calories may not be enough for you, and may actually slow your weight loss. I aim for 1,500 calories a day and include more complex carbs when I exercise. If the body thinks you're fasting, it will hold on to weight and start burning muscle, not fat as fuel!

Hope everyone has a great week good.gif

congrats on the lb. you can lose 6 by april 20. if you only lose 3 though would they send you away for the surgery? that seems like it would be a guideline and a few lbs shouldnt matter?

everyone says you need to have calories yada yada yada or your body will hold on to fat. i dont get it. i had elective surgery back in november whistling.gif and while i was recovering i had no appetite, definately ate less than 1000 cals a day and dropped 5 lbs and kept it off. and i am pretty lean to begin with - i was 150 at the time and 5'9. i recently had strep throat and couldnt swallow for 3 days so again didnt have 1000 calories. i dropped another 5lbs and kept it off. i am NOT advocating starvation or severe calorie restriction but it seems to me the less i eat, the more i burn the more i lose - even if its not at a magic number.
i want to believe this body holds onto fat thing but my experience just makes it hard and im looking for someone to explain!

Technically if I"m not exactly at the bmi they want by march 31 i'm to reschedule. That's not happening though so I'm stressing myself to at least get it down by the 20th which is when i leave. And yes I have spoken with two people that actually got turned away the day of...and we're talkin 'people who like me are flying there!!! I guess I should have made it for May. sad.gif If by March 31 I really don't think I'll get there I will reschedule 'cause after that they keep $1,500 as a penalty fee. blink.gif

I can't really explain it, but it's something about the body going into "starvation mode" - the metabolism slows way down. Everyone's body responds differently though, not to mention that I think this is usually advised against for extended periods of time - weeks or more. I'm not sure that a few days would cause the body to respond.

I have a friend who had to lose weight quickly before surgery and here is what she told me to do:

If you really want to lose weight..do what I did before my surgery.. you won't damage your body and it is totally approved by nutritionists.

I lost 1/2 a pound a day..no kidding.. but you have to stick to it..

Simply..the carnation instant breakfast- blue box (sugar free).. Drink five of those a day with 1% fat milk. Believe it or not, it will keep you full. You could drop the six pounds in less than 2 weeks. Or even do it for a week.

I'm doing it baby!!!!
Jenn!
I'm usually really against things like that, but since you have a real purpose, I say go for it. Good luck though, that sounds horrible.

I don't know if you guys already have diet/exercise trackers that you use, but I just found this one that I like: http://www.thedailyplate.com/

I cant believe I am advocating this but if I were you and $1500 was at stake if a week before I still had a few lbs to lose I would probably do the master cleanser!
Jenn!
I don't get that Master Cleanser. I bet you'd get the same results if you just didn't consume anything at all.

LOL are you talking about me? I could actually probably eat nearly 2 large pizzas in a sitting. I can eat a lot if I want to. It';s like I have a faulty "full" mechanism, especially at time of the month... Although after time of the month i feel full all the time.

My weigh in day is tomorrow *shudders* I am nervous to see how I've done. Kinda blew it over the weekend coz I ate chinese for lunch sunday and then mcds for supper crying.gif We had been traveling so I had to either suck it up and eat it OR starve. I hope it didn't hurt me too bad. I have found some great soups that are very filling and low on sodium. Each can is 2 servings and each serving is only like 100 calories so they're great for a meal or quick snack if needed. I get off of work late so it makes a great supper for me that is light on the tummy and low in sodium.

I went and looked last night. I knew I shouldn't go do this and that was only confirmed by the fact we don't even stock it here LOL. Anyway, so I decided to just cut back this week and keep calorie counting. I have to count calories or else I'll jsut go back to anorexia. it's no that I'm counting down, I'm counting up. That's why I hate the whole weight flux thing. Drives me nuts. Obviously I cannot eat any more sweets with Ammar ever again like I was! He is still losing weight/maintaining.

I was resisting counting calories too. I started losing again once I started counting calories. Turns out I was eating significantly fewer than I should have been.

Yeah, you probably were putting yourself on "conserve." smile.gif Of course you do get past that, and then you start to become wonderfully thin-- but obviously not healthy! smile.gif

Right, I've done that before and I think I set myself up to gain it all right back. This time I'm trying to shoot for something where I'll have an easier time maintaining once I meet my goal.

That was my problem too (is my problem?) the first time I got nicely thin and 99lbs, I had basically stopped eating for several days at a time each week and only ate one meal on days I did eat-- adn they were just things like a head of cauliflower, etc. So when I started eating regularly, I immediately bumped up to 115, then 130... then 150... I realized I was eating only bread and soda for a while so i cut the bread and cereal and put in fresh veggies-- dropped 15lbs in a snap. then I went to jordan and did field work the first time. i dropped weight to 120 by walking up and down those hills every day adn then coming home adn being exhauseted and falling asleep (and not eating). So then in 6 weeks I lost 15lbs. I then started exercising when I went home and I maintained a good weight for a while of 120 and although I wanted 110, I wasn't working really either. I got nearly to 110 2 summers ago when I started doing a walking/running combo, then started to gain when I stopped exercising and started eating donuts (go figure.). So now I'm working back at dropping adn obviously I am past the age where I can eat whatever I want-- and I am going to have to stick to veggies and not to donuts.

so far so good. Had two shakes so far today and not hungry at all. Next shake at 4pm. lol

So does it make a huge difference in your clothes? I have this closet right now, sitting and doing NOTHING. I can wear like 3 things in there. It's pretty pathetic. I am determined to be able to wear at least a 4th thing in the next 2 weeks LOL.

Is there any way you can get out of your prednisone or take somehting that doesn't cause as much water retention?

I gained 2lbs since yesterday sad.gif It COULD be the massive buffet we ate at Ryans last night for lil'mans birthday OR the fact that I'm bloated like all getout on my 3rd week of Aunt Flos visit, OR that I'm wearing a heavy pair of jeans today.

clothes - yes! I've dropped one size! kicking.gif kicking.gif I went from a 16W to a 14W smile.gif

prednisone - *sigh* yes I could take one of a few meds in place of it BUT I cannot do so while pregnant or trying to get pregnant. That is the reason I am still in pain since I'm holding off on treatment until I have a baby inshallah. Once I give birth I am going on a totally new medicinal regime which will give me a whole new life hopefully pain free! kicking.gif

I hate dieting tooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What does your dr. say about the amount of calories your taking in? If I'm right you're only doing 1,000/day right? That's wicked low I think, though I should talk I'm about 800/day but only doing this for a few weeks. You might wanna hike it up so that you CAN eat at the buffets though within reason.

i am trying to stay under 1500 calories...i didn't think that was too low since the average for "normal ppl" is 2000/day. I should be dropping it like crazy but its not going away..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

if i don't lose anymore this week...i may try the atkins again. at least i was happy on that one. maaaaaaaaaaaan i'd stuff myself and lose 2lbs a day. it couldn't be worse than staying at my current weight, right?
