I just got back from the Indy office. I had an infopass appointment. (...)
She said I should get the card soon, but if I don't just book another InfoPass app and take my plane ticket with me and they will stamp my passport. (...)
So if you need to travel that seems to be the way to go. Book the ticket and then book an infopass and take you ticket and passport with you for a stamp.

Thank you, drawbridgep, for your experience and your tips. Good Luck for the next time.

See, not worth all the worrying, right? How about a vote of confidence in USCIS after all?

drawbridgep did NOT get the stamp, but was told to come back later, despite losing his written proof of residence in less than a month (from his timeline, I assume that the NOA expires Feb, 15). It doesn't give me confidence in the USCIS.

Imagine someone living more than two hours driving time from the USCIS office, and the USCIS has already needed much more time than the "regular" six months for processing - and when the customer visits, the USCIS asks the customer to come back later, because there is maybe still a month during which the 10y card could come and, if it does, the precious USCIS stamp ink would have been wasted. Why didn't they give drawbridgep the stamp immediatly and why do they need to see any tickets at a later time when the NOA has expired? I count the reported Indianapolis experience in a negative category. A conclusion could be to wait until the NOA actually has expired, before visiting the USCIS office and asking for a stamp.

That's a good point. I only live 20 minutes from the office, so it's no great problem for me. But this kind of information should be available on the phone. Has anyone tried to navigate the phone's menu lately? I was on the phone going through the menus actually longer than it took to get in the car, drive down town and get to speak to an officer.

The actualy people at the USCIS seem nice and friendly and helpful, but the USCIS as a whole needs some rethinking.

Hi everyone, I notice one of the people on this list has a service request, I couldn't find a post about it and was wondering what date this was placed?

My husband has a contact in Homeland Security that contacted someone in our local office to place a service request. I have no idea if this will make any difference, it seems that it doesn't since that person is still on the list here.

Just wondering if anyone has had any action on a service request? My husband is expecting miracles, I however am skeptical.

I placed a service request on Dec. 14. I haven't heard anything yet. I really don't expect anything to come of it. I haven't heard from the congressperson either. I have an infopass appointment next week to get the stamp, maybe I'll get some answers then.

Service requests are a waste of time. If anything comes out of them -- and frequently nothing whatsoever does -- it's always a some scripted, tell-me-something-I-don't-know BS to the effect that "your petition is currently being processed" and that you will be notified when processing has been completed. Inquiries via one's senator don't yield much more -- usually a made-up processing time passed on to the senator's office by the service center's congressional liason.

That's kind of what I expected, unfortunately my husband thinks this is going to magically move his case forward.

Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking about the same for few weeks but I dont know how to make the service request through senator's office, atleast our politcians will know how much Immigration case are delayed and they will do something.

Can anyone tell me how should I approach senator's office regarding this

Does anyone know what date the last application was approved out of Nebraska?
I'm a little worried about them, do you think they're OK? It makes me think of an elderly relative that you've not heard from for some time.
Maybe we should send some flowers and a get well soon card.

Are you sure your case was transferred to the CSC? I guess you can see it from the application number, does it start with LIN... or something else? (I have a number starting with LIN... for Lincoln, Nebraska.)

If you have been transferred but haven't been approved yet, you belong to the still rare species of TSBT (transferees stuck in basement, too). I can add you to the list, but your fate will likely differ from those stuck in the basement at the NSC.

and now we wait.... My husband did get an I155 stamp in his passport this past December, so he is authorized until Dec 2008. Hopefully we will hear something before then blink.gif Almost time for Naturalization!!

I am so glad I logged on to VJ today. I just returned from an Infopass appointment in Chicago, it was a complete waste of time.
My petition is also outside of the current processing date at NSC. Here's the kicker, I will be travelling outside of the US on the date that my GC extension expires. That's why I went to Infopass today. They could not help me - the lady said that in Chicago, they are only allowed to extend cond.GCs for 60 days. I am currently close to 90 days out. So, I'll have to go Downtown every 60 days for an extension. I find that so ridiculous.

@ace13, how did your husband obtain that stamp for 1 year? I would really like to know, thank you. Also adding myself to your list:

Another question to those of you whose expiration date is coming close... have you visited your local Infopass offices? Did you receive an extension longer than 60 days? What about work authorization, if you chose to let the date go by...? And travelling? Technically, would that not make us "illegal"?

I'm still so disappointed that there was absolutely NO help at the Infopass office today. All they did was read my case status off the screen - well, I have done just that for almost 1 year now.

Thank you!

When my husband went it to get a stamp (he needed one for a new job) the stamp extended residence for 1 year. This was in Indianapolis.

Hi,

I havent visited the local office yet but I intend to in the first week of march. I am attaching a document which got from the USCIS website which seems dated but it clearly states that if we request documentation regarding our status, the officer should issue a I-551 stamp valid for 12 months. Since the memorandum seems to be quite old, i dont know the validity of it, but carry it with you next time and see if it makes a difference.

How do u even make a Infopass appointment, i was trying the different options and none of them seemed to be something which was related to getting the I-551 stamp. What option does everyone use for this purpose? And can you make the appointment at a local office other than the one within your juridiction?

Regards,
Peter T

Illinois77, first the good news: If you have filed your I-751 on time, you are and remain a permanent resident, until the USCIS adjucates your case, even if you have NO proof of your status. I don't advice to travel without proof of status, but my guess is that the border control has to let you in, after they have checked your status on the USCIS' system. You can also continue to work without proof of status, and your current employer should NOT ask for any proof of continued status to comply with the Labor laws - other laws like export control laws might lead to the employer asking anyhow.

To the infopass appointments: Those will come up soon for many of us on the list who like to have proof of status. I will go AFTER my NOA has expired, and I will take a print-out with me of the excellent memo that sandeepb has attached to his posting. If the memo hasn't been superseeded by another memo, I don't see how the USCIS officer could deny a 12-months I-551 stamp.

PS: I repost the table in fixed font.

If you're not on the list but should be, please add yourself or post your data separately in the thread.
Important: If you are on the list and get approved, we would like to know it - please write a posting in this thread.

My husband's one year extension expired 1/16/08. We made an infopass appoint for Dec 31 and he got the stamp in his passport good for 6 months.

He is so upset by all this. He works with a lot of immigrants who have told him that something is very wrong as it should only take 5-6 months, he has people in his office who said it only took them that long and they also applied last year. We've never received any request for additiona info, we've been to the local office, called the 800 number, we had a service request put in last week but nothing on that either.

I don't quite understand since I was born here but it's straining our relationship. He somehow feels that he is not legal, even though the law says he is. He just wants to have a GC AND mostly he would like to apply for citizenship but that will be delayed, he'd rather have the approval in hand first.

He asks me daily if anything is new. Just this morning he called me at work, asking about it. I'm about to lose it.

It would be OK if the website said they were processing dec 07 cases but it says they're on Feb 10, 2007 and his is dated Jan 16, 2007, WTF? It makes no sense. and the status is pending. Pending. Received and pending. I would rather not have status online than to have such incorrect and unhelpful status. It's EXTREMELY misleading and my husband has been tied to that status date for months. Then when it passed his, he went ballistic.

AND, if you notice, the web page says it was updated as of Jan 15, OMG. So they should be 2 weeks further than they say.

My wife is still waiting on her conditions to be lifted. I filed her petition and one for my stepdaughter on the same day in February. My stepdaughter's petition flew through the CSC in about one month, and, I would have had her here already had my 2007 fiscal year been sufficient this past October. As it stand now I'll be going back to Thailand next week to bring my stepdaughter here and she'll end up having her 10 year GC before her mother does DESPITE her mother being here for over 3 years now.

This was the same situation years ago with the I-129F. Took FOREVER to get out of Nebraska hell. It's just pathetic that the government puts something so vital in such a remote place. One would think that a service center handling major states would be located in a large citiy like Seattle.

My wife's application was received on Feb. 12, 2007 and still nothing yet.
jennybirgitta
I had an Infopass appointment today. I got a stamp for 6 months. The lady was really nice but she didn't have any answers to why it is taking so long. The service request I filed on Dec. 14 had not been touched at all yet, so that is just a waist of time.

@ Sandeep and Peter, thank you so much! I can't believe you found a memo like that on the webside, that's awesome. good.gif
I'll certainly take that with me next time I go. I will go back and get some sort of stamp before my trip. I'll only be gone 1 week but the expiration date rolls around just in the middle of that week, so I won't risk it.

Sandeep, I went to the USCIS.gov website, there is an "infopass" button right on the homepage I think. I just went with a status request of my case, and selected the option of "45 days have passed since my inquiry with the service center". That was not true in my case (it had only been about 20 days since I filed the inquiry) but nobody asked about that when I was there. Be sure to print the appointment confirmation, it has a bar code on it. Many people in line with me did not bring that and the officers were quite annoyed because of that...

The process a pain in the xxx but at least I know now that this seems to be a pattern with NSC and not with me. My I130 petition also took forever when we first filed, so we are somewhat used to this.

@mew, guide your husband to this site, at least he'll know he's not an exception.

Thank you again for posting that memo and for your help!!!

I called Nebraska today to ask for a service request but they were having computer problems so the customer service rep told me he was going to transfer me to second level support (or something like that) to help me with my case. Fat lot of good they were, just told me to get the Infopass before my extension expires and get a year added. Ah well, the wait continues.

Thanks for the info on the Infopass. I will get an appointment soon.

Peter can you also add me on the list? My I-751 NOA is 4th Jan 2007. Biometrics in Feb 2007 and not touched since then. I sent in a service request in Dec 2007 but i just got a standard letter that the case is under review and i will hear between 60-90 days and if I dont I should contact USCIS again! Anyway I have sent in my N-400 papers this week on 28th Jan. I agree with conclusions of most of the members here stuck with NSC, their case load seems to be too high and the I-751 cases are just not their priority as we can get extensions and still keep working/travelling. Just makes me frustrated about the processing times published on USCIS website which obviously is not ACCURATE based on the information from a number of people here in our forum and we cannot do much about it!!

Ah, well!
All's that really important is that I can be with hubby and live and work here. That's what I came here for. The USCIS can take their time as long as I can remain here, no?

I saw this update on the USCIS Website today. This may shed some light to why we are seeing the delays, but seems like more excuses to good management and making adjustments to better manage the process.

This was taken directly from their site at :

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Q : When can I expect USCIS to process my case?

USCIS processes applications in the order they are received by application type. Due to the significant increase in the number of applications filed, processing times have been affected. As a result, average processing times for certain application types filed after June 1, 2007, may become longer. For example:

Naturalization applications may take approximately 16-18 months to process;
Family-based adjustment of status applications may take 10-12 months; and
Immigrant petitions for relatives and workers may take 9-10 months.
Application processing times are accessible from the USCIS.gov homepage. Processing times are an estimate of how long it will take to complete your case. Each case is different, and some cases may take longer to process than others. You can use your receipt (I-797) to check the status of your case using Case Status Online. Please note that USCIS will only process requests for case status information if it is beyond posted processing times. We encourage you to check processing times, which are updated monthly, before inquiring about your case.

Seems poor management and planning given what they already knew was coming but I do understand there are struggles everyone faces, including the Governement. So, the question becomes is this a management and planning issue that could of been addressed or truly something different.

Right... and the USCIS's priority is to push through theose petitions where people are somewhere else waiting for benefits. Ergo, their resources are going towards processing N-400's, I-485's etc. FOr those with I-751... we're really just in limbo... we really aren't suffering... it's a pain, yes.. frustrating.. yes, but at the end of it.. we still have our status and we're here and our lives don't stop by the USCIS's inaction. We just have to do a little annoying housekeeping..

Those of us waiting in Nebraska need to get used to the fact that processing on our petitions has pretty much stopped so that resources can be placed elsewhere. For most of us, our I-751's will be adjudicated the same time our N-400's are.

That's wrong ,maybe not everybody wants to apply for citizenship and why we should force Nebraska Service Center with a new application just to have the other one resolved ? That's plain stupid !!!!

This is not stupid but we will be helping the USCIS to Process two applications at one time.If we apply for citzenship then they dont need to process our I-751 separately.I'll apply for citizenship even if my I-751 is pending because It will speed up other people's I-751.

The USCIS can't just flip a switch and have adjudicators just appear out of thin air... it takes a year or two to get an adjudicator trained and fully fuctional. There is only a limited amount of adjudicators to go around with double the caseload... the management of NSC has decided to place those resources to places they feel are the highest priority. I-751's aren't it... and honestly shouldn't be ... we can still lives our lives here with minimal disruption...

Regarding drawbridgep's infopass appt. I don't know why they would tell you to buy your ticket then come back. You don't have to prove your going anywhere as far as I understand to get the stamp. You would need the stamp anyway if your NOA and gc expire and you're wanting to get another job. That's how it's worked for my husband. He jumped the gun a little bit by making an infopass appt. last July (his NOA letter just expired this past Jan. 4th, and gc expired March '07) but he was worried the letter and expired gc wouldn't be enough to travel and we were getting ready to leave for Morocco. So we went in and he just told them he wanted a stamp, they looked at his letter and gave him his stamp without a word. Of course, wayyyy back in July tongue.gif we were ever so hopeful he'd be approved by NOW! Anyway, the stamp proved quite useful when he applied for a new job, since his other documents were expired. We forgot to have the restriction removed from his social security card when he got his 2 yr gc, so that still isn't good enough on it's own (I'm still kicking myself over that one...). Now, unless he's feeling really ready to file for naturalization I would guess we make another infopass appt. to get a new stamp near the expiration of the current one?? Barring of course a miracle our I-751 is approved by then, which seems very unlikely. dry.gif

That's total BS.

First come, first served.

I paid the fees for the petitions I filed the same as anyone else and cases ought to be determined and adjudicated by order of receipt and not because one person's case is more important than someone else's.

One would think removal of conditions would be the biggest no-brainer in terms of expepditing cases since there's just the meeting of removal of conditions to be met.

"Are they married? Still married?" Approved. Should take a few minutes per case.

Surely all the hard work was done during prior petitions and paperwork.

The fact that people like you find it acceptable that petitions take so long to approve or deny is the reason why the government is allowed to get away with such poor service.

Yes, I still believe it's stupid if we have to pay more (N-400) just to have something done that has been paid already .
I just feel that we're kept in the dark and we're treated like 2nd class people
Also I don't understand something ,how come older applications are sitting there(Nebraska) collecting dust while whoever applied after June 2007 has been transferred to California Service Center and most of them got approved within two to three months ? Did you read what they claim on their website? "First come, first served
I'm getting mad here so I better stop mad.gif

FOR ZYGGY

Manthat must be something wrong with you to claim a such a thing :
“The USCIS can't just flip a switch and have adjudicators just appear out of thin air... it takes a year or two to get an adjudicator trained and fully fuctional. There is only a limited amount of adjudicators to go around with double the caseload... the management of NSC has decided to place those resources to places they feel are the highest priority. I-751's aren't it... and honestly shouldn't be ... we can still lives our lives here with minimal disruption...”
Arent you feed up with all the waiting and the stress put into this circus ?????
The hassle and pain going through every time you have to renew a document where you have to show your status ????
Hmmmmand you are from Canada too, dont know what to think! Are you from Newfoundland?

Those of us waiting in Nebraska need to get used to the fact that processing on our petitions has pretty much stopped so that resources can be placed elsewhere. For most of us, our I-751's will be adjudicated the same time our N-400's are.

I beg to differ! Please explain why some of us should get used to unfair treatment, and why we should have to pay for another service to receive services we have alrady paid for??? I personally will need to take time off from work to go ask for another stupid stamp so that I can travel in a couple more months.

It seems like you want to apply for US citizenship. I shudder to think what will happen to this country if all citizens thought like that. This kind of unjust, cr***Y service is NOT what this country is SUPPOSED to be all about. I am sorry for having to write this, but it just bugs me that people think it is o.k. to wait, and wait, and wait, with no apparent plans that NSC will get their act together, while other service centers are processing papers within a couple of months.

I agree with iansig40. Not everyone needs or wants to become a citizen right now. We are only asking for the services that have been paid for - many moons ago mad.gif

Um, can you answer the question then, WHY does the USCIS state on their status page that the NSC is filing I-751s dated Feb 10, 2007 when there are people in Dec 06 and Jan 07 who have not had any feedback on their cases? In spite of the fact that I disagree with what you said, they seem to be lying about where they are in the processing. IF they would admit they are behind, at least we wouldn't be worried that something was wrong because it's now been 6 weeks since they said our case was "finished".

I'm glad that you see the situation the same way I do .
I remember few years ago when I sent my application I-129F to the same terrible Service Center ...Nebraska it took them almost 600 days to process my application .Did they give me any special treatment because I was away from my spouse ...NO WAY so that's why I'm mad when some guys here consider that we should be just F****G waiting and forget about it .How long we should wait ,one year ,two years ...maybe three ????
That's totally unreasonable and disgusting and I think they should be called "LOSERS" (Nebraska Service Center) not us that we did everything they asked as to do mad.gif

This is not stupid but we will be helping the USCIS to Process two applications at one time.If we apply for citzenship then they dont need to process our I-751 separately.I'll apply for citizenship even if my I-751 is pending because It will speed up other people's I-751.

Um.. explain to me again, how will it speed up my I-751 if yours is just sitting ahead of mine, taking up a spot in line, and then you won't use it?!

Also, I think Zyggy posted this, a N400 is not more important than a I751, adding a second petition to the bunch will not speed things up, not one person's case is more important than the other.... and cases are curently not looked at in the order they were received, and that's what stinks.

I'm in the same situation as you my friend and pretty close to your dates also .
Same as you Nebraska did nothing for me so far and calling USCIS is totally a waste of time .Just wondering if contacting the local state Congressman will help however I feel is just going to be another disappointment.
This is one huge mess that they try to cover up but ...hiking the price in the same for their lousy "work"
I hope somebody, someday will be held accountable for this mess
I really want to know and I will do my best even if I have to spend money and hire an attorney ...why in the hell applications filed on June and after were transferred to California and processed right away while ours are abandoned at Nebraska Service Center .Speaking with one of their customer service representative they deny this fact and they claim that every case is different and that's why it takes longer for some of us .I would say thats BS. Cheap excuse to hide their incompetence !

What a relief for me to find this thread! I have been waiting for over a year and starting to get really frustrated. I disagree that our cases should be of lower priority. Waiting for lifting condition is quite inconvenient for me. My conditional GC has expired last March. In the past year I had to fly back five times to take care of my sick mother. Every time I went through the customs, I had to explain why I traveled abroad so often. On one of these trips my husband and I were pulled aside to wait in the homeland security office for over an hour! A thousand thoughts of what could've gone wrong went through our minds at the time. It turns out to be nothing! Then my job got unstable so I jumped ship. On the first day of my new job, the HR person got really confused about my green card situation...Not to mention I found out that people who filed mid last year got transferred to CSC and fly through it... Why don't they transfer the cases that with oldest NOA date? This sucks.
