I filed the I-130 and related whatnots by mail last week. However reading another post today, I wonder if I've done something wrong. My passport is still in my maiden name but I have applied in my married name, which I now use. It's not so straightforward for me to change my passport as I live in a country other than my own.

Have I cocked up? If so, should I hop to London or the British embassy here and get a change done before my interview? (I haven't received even a confirmation the I-130 was approved yet, so I appreciate I am jumping the gun a bit.)

Of course, with the I-130 I have not had to submit a copy of *my* passport so the cock-up would not have been noticed yet if I have made one.

Confirmation? Reassurance? A kick up the a***?

Why don't you contact the closest British consulate in Germany and see what they can do for you. Most nations' consulates offers passport services for citizens.

Don't worry if you haven't heard anything yet about your petititon. Doing DCF in Frankfurt is faster than going through USCIS in the US, but they still need their time. You can of course call the consulate and ask. The number can be found in the Embassy Info section on this site.

They can change my passport at this end so that's good, and of course I don't need to let Frankfurt know until I have all the documents ready, so there isn't any problem there. I'm in no particular rush to get my interview as we're here for some time yet, so no undue panic about not hearing from Frankfurt for a while

I don't think you've done anything wrong. It happens to a lot of people including many family immigrants to the US. I don't think it is an issue at all because the visa will be in your passport, thus connecting your two names.

On my immigration documents that I just received from the embassy, it says that I'm possibly using four different names, including my married name, maiden name, hyphenated both names, etc, meaning they are aware of possibilities I hadn't even considered.

My passport is in my maiden name, my visa is in my maiden name, but my ssn etc is in my married name, I did all my paper work in my married name, so I think you should be just fine!

can you clarify something for me. by visa do you mean CR-1 (green card)? if that was in your maiden name, how and when did you change name for ssn?
we have kept my wifes maiden name so far I-130, Passport, DS-230 part-1. once she comes here how and when can she change name to married name?
