Well, we got Pete's Social Security Card in the mail!! However...I was kind of curious...since we filed for the K-1 Visa...is it suppose to have "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" on it????

When does that stipulation come off...because obviously as a USC, I don't have that on my card...and I know things will be different for Pete, but will he be able to be put on my bank account with me and so on now that he has his SSN??? Or will they look at it like...it's for work only???[

Thanks in advance!

♥C and P♥,

It is supposed to have the "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" notation on it. The card (and number) are otherwise a 'normal' social security card - for all the same uses you would use - the only difference is Pete will need his EAD (or Green Card) to work (that's the DHS work authorization). So it's not a 'lesser' card and the bank (if they require a social security number) will accept it. good.gif

The card is correct.... it lets employers know that they need to check for EAD, once he has a greencard he can go back to the SSA and have it removed... they will issue him a new card without the restriction on it....

you should not have any problems using it to open bank accounts or anythng else....

The EAD card and the green card are two different things. Most K1ers have an EAD card before their AOS is approved (and the green card is sent).

C and P, you can get this demarkation removed from your SS card when your AOS has been approved and you receive your green card.

Moving to the correct forum...

What's does this mean? What is the correct Forum to discuss information about SSNs?

The correct forum is where is not is - where Mags relocated it in the "Working & Travelling prior to getting a Green Card" forum. This is the forum that discusses Employment Authorizations, Advance Parole, and all of the other questions that arise for those individuals living in the US before their green card has been approved.:-)/
