BBC America? Unusual choice Devilette wink.gif

Apart from liberal doses of BBC stuff, BBC America also shows stuff formerly on ITV or Channel 5.
Alot of PBS stations will show re-runs of Are You Being Served? and Keeping Up Appearences plus a few costume dramas normally the preserve of BBC Sunday evenings. The Biography Channel sometimes shows Midsomer Murders and Inspector Morse, the SciFi channel shows Doctor Who and the History Channel and History International will generally wheel out some dig with Tony Robinson or the life of a Tudor monarch as presented by Simon Schama or David Starkey. The father and son team of Dan and Peter Snow also appear on the History Channel using computer graphics to show how the British army defeated the French/Germans/Spanish/Dutch (delete as appropriate) on their Battlefield Detectives show. Watch out for the Teletubbies and Thomas the Tank Engine (with Yank voice overs) on kids channels. Besides showing poker, the The Travel Channel does show a few UK related holiday shows. The Discovery Times channel will often show documentaries on London, be it the adequacy of it's flood defences or how the Underground railways work and finally if the National Geographic channel isn't showing a whale documentary narrated by Leonard Nimoy, it may well show Seconds From Disaster which 50% of the time is some dreadful mishap on one of Britain's railways or airlines.

I need to get BBC America...I'm addicted to Hollyoaks and miss it dearly. It's so sad that I like the show I'm not a student.

We watch Graham Norton. He is so freaking hilarious. I'm not into British soaps tho - like Hollyoaks/Coronation St/etc...

I miss British telly. crying.gif

there's this site called Veoh and they have some Brit TV shows that you can watch free online. The only one I've actually watched was last year's Robin Hood that was on BBC because we left before the series was over

Planet Earth is often showed on the Discovery channel. I am glad that I get Ramseys kitchen nightmares (so much better than the US version) and I love that I can get Top Gear over here, and also coupling. (Do wish they would show Only fools and horses over here, that was my fav show).

Never really liked any of the soaps in the UK.

The Canadian channels show quite a few Brit shows too. Dr Who, Torchwood, loads of Brit films, documentaries, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and the yearly Brit Awards.

Well, you have to have broadband first off. It's this box you attach to the net, mine has a freeview tuner in it. Then you download the software onto your comp, and you can access the slingbox. It shows everything in real time....no recording capabilities on its own that I know of. You can hook it up to a DVR though.

Then you can get fancy and hook it up to a sky box. The probbo with that is that whoever is housing the slingbox has to watch what you watch (if it's hooked up to another tuning source), and vice versa.

A few probbos: to watch UK tv, you need a parked slingbox in the UK. We're giving it to a friend of ours once he leaves. 2-it sucks bandwidth like a mofo, so if you have VOIP phones (like Vonage....that's what we have), both connections are choppy when they're goin at the same time. We are giving it to this certain friend because he doesn't use the net all that much, so it won't affect his work if we're watching tv. 3-if you want more than freeview, it needs its own skybox...because if the friend wants to watch tv, and there's only one sky between him and the box, you can't watch anything different than what the chann's on.

At least this is my experience so far, but I love it!

PS - you can get slingbox in the us as well! A colleague of mine here is footy mad. He's got FSC at home, and bought a sling so that when he's at work, if there's a match on, he can watch it on his laptop. I heart.gif when we work together, and it's a dead Saturday, and we're stuck up at the front on floor shifts....we sit there and yell at his computer the whole match laughing.gif

We have BBC America and I am loving Doctor Who and Torchwood. I am seeing a lot more UK shows on other channels also, and found Most Haunted the other night (sorry can't remember what channel). Who can resist Derek Acora talking to his spirit guide Sam and being possessed by "Dave", a 19th century docker from Bradford? Oh its classy tv. Still miss Eastenders but I don't think I would know who is who now anyway. Absolutely pig sick of Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt. Oh how I wish David Dickinson would just %&^& off. Going back to London for two weeks at the end of April so will catch up on soaps then !

Sci-fi gets Dr Who before BBC America does so you'll be able to catch series 4 mid-April only a week or two after the UK airing. Sci-fi will also be showing the other Dr Who spin-off, 'The Sarah Jane Adventures'. It's made for kids but I actually find it far more enjoyable than Torchwood.

Other UK shows that I've managed to catch that I don't think anyone else has mentioned.

My local PBS shows Allo, Allo and Vicar of Dibley on a fairly regular basis.

Adultswim shows 'Garth Merenghi'.

Discovery has 'Walking with Dinosaurs' at the moment although some bland American voiceover replacing Kenneth Branagh.

Well, the guy who does the voice.

BBC America makes me so mad because who the hell watches Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt for 6-8hrs a day? I'm kinda looking forward for the second season of Robin Hood to start this Saturday.

Looked up this thread to add Shameless on Sundance but I saw someone else added it. I think they're just starting season 3. Randomly during the week at like 1 or 3am they play random episodes from season 1 and 2 in no specific order
BlueRain77
In WA we get CBUT (canadian channel) and Coronation Street is on weekday nights. They are about a year behind.

BBCAmerica is great and if you have Comcast OnDemand sometimes they will air other shows for free. Mainly Office, Torchwood, and soon the new Robin Hood season 2.

We found a site where you can get delayed or live streaming online and watch most UK channels. I think it's $49 a month.

Been addicted to NetFlix recently as well. They have tons of old (& newer) brit tv shows & movies that are on dvd that you can select to send to you OR watch them online. $8.99 gets you unlimited dvd's per month (1 at a time) and unlimited select shows/movies online. I have been watching Red Dwarf, Little Britain, & The Office online.

Hey, I watch Cash in the Attic all day! I have a mega crush on mega-metro Alistair :-p

I'm also a big fan of Antiques Roadshow...though I tend to get more into the US version since you see more wild west and Native American stuff (how many Victorian vases can one appraise in a day?) But that is just me!

I find Bargain Hunters to be terrifically boring. It's a great idea, but the format puts me to sleep. sad.gif

My favorite show on BBC America is The Graham Norton Show....that guy is so irreverant and hilarious! And they FINALLY have new episodes!!! Yay!!!!

I loved the ep where he had Andrew Lloyd Webber on it and they did an audition for Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. I was rolling on the floor...the break dancing Jesus won if I remember correctly!
