Hi VJ firends!!

We filed our I-130 last month with the original intention of continuing on with the K3 process, but with the current backlog and receipting delays, we are reconsidering this and thinking the IR-1/CR-1 processing might not be a whole lot longer. We noticed that on the statistics here, the only embassy that shows any interviews for the IR-1/CR-1 interviews is Montreal. If we go K3 our interview will be in Vancouver, which appears to schedule interviews in a very timely manner (a month or two) - it appears interview waits are up to 9 months long for IR-1/CR-1 in Montreal. So...bottom line question...do IR-1/CR-1 interviews happen only in Montreal? or does Vancouver do them too?

As always...thanks for any info you can provide!

Vancouver and Montreal are the only Consulates that issue K visa's. Where you get interviewed depends on what province you live in.
Montreal is the only Consulate that issues CR/IR-1 visa's.
You HAVE to file the I-130(CR/IR-1) before you can file the I-129f (K visa).

Hi,

There are two consulates which process family based visas in Canada, Montreal and Vancouver.

IR1/CR1/IR5
All IR1 /CR1 and IR5 visas will be processed/interview at Montreal.

K Visas
K visas are processed/interviewed at both Montreal and Vancouver, depending on your Province of Residence:

Manitoba and West: Vancouver

Ontario and East: Montreal

The IR1/CR1 interviews at Montreal have picked up recently, don't know if they will continue to keep up the pace, but I hope so, don't know if you have already had a look at the IR1/CR1 Montreal timeline to interview thread?

My wife and I went with the CR-1, and it took a year and a few months, but then we were saved from filing for AOS and all of that. Right when they stamped her passport at the POE, she could work, and within days she had applied for a Social Security card and her driver's license. I'd recommend that, but whichever you choose, good luck!

Agreed with what everyone says. My humble suggestion is to go for the CR/IR1. Not only does it result in an immigrant visa, but it also saves you quite the amount of money. Also, it seems like MTL just might wake up and speed up.
Good luck, L.

Thanks everyone for your speedy replies!

I think this information confirms our initial plan to file a subsequent I-129F and go for a K-3. It would cost almost $1000 to fly from Vancouver Island to Montreal for an interview, so there goes any cost benefit and we were also aware that a work permit would take several months after getting to the US and will be planning accordingly. There would have to be a huge benefit to living apart from my sweetie one day extra day!!!!

Personally I think you made the right decision, hassle with AOS taken in to account, the faster interview time is a huge bonus, good luck!

Good luck! We filed our I-130 and K3 - we were on the waiting list for 4 months for the K3 expecting to receive an interview date any day - Montreal decided to stop processing the K3 and went on to process the I-130. Although the I-130 is better, this means that we are now on a new waiting list which frustrates us b/c we spent 4 months waiting for absolutely nothing. Anyways, I hope what happened to us does not happen to you! Good luck!
