Hi, I am trying to find out what information I need to bring with me to get my Social Security Number and Card. I have my passport with K1 visa in it(obviously). It has been stamped so that I can work (but it does not say anywhere on the stamp that is the specific purpose of it.) I also have my original birth certificate and a photo id. I have no other documents proving immigration status. Is what I have stated above enough to go to my local office with? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me !

hulsey06,

You will need:

Documents proving:
  • Immigration status;
  • Work eligibility;
  • Age; and
  • Identity.

thank you karin I had already seen that . I am wondering what other documentation they are referring to when they say "docs proving immigration status" as I do not have any. Just passport, Photo ID and Birth Certificate. Will that be enough?

Thank you

I took my passport with my K1 visa as well as a copy of my marriage certificate and my birth certificate. That was good enough for them good.gif

All we took was Claudeth's passport and her birth certificate but they didn't even look at the BC.

you also might want to print out the info that I nicked from one of Iquit's helpful SSN posts.

https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203500

A bit down the page you will see who is authorised for work. That can sometimes be a problem with some SS offices.

I also suggest going to the ssa.gov website to fillout the ap b4 you go....saved us alot of time!
