Hi everyone,
I am new on this forum and have a question.
My boyfriend, from Yemen, applied for asylum and after 8 years of appeals, his application got denied.
He has been on a detention program and he goes to the immigration office every 3 months to report his address or any other changes on information.
His application got denied 4 months ago so we have been waiting for his deportation letter. The local immigration office has all his address and contact info, as well as his lawyer's address. Well, we haven't received any deportation letter so far. This past monday he had the appointment at the immigration office and he got arrested there.
Can they do this? I mean, arrest him without even sending his deportation letter? Is this legal? He hasn't commited a crime, he wasn't trying to hide from anything, he simply just did not get notified of his date of deportation. He is being held with no bail. Is there anything he can do to get out of jail?
I know he will be deported for sure but why the jail? He hasn't done anything wrong.
Any advice??
Thank you

He should have a date in Immigration Court before a judge. He will determine when and may release him awaiting his date if he voluntarily departs.

jessNgeorges had a similar issue - talk to her and see what advise she can give you. It may be easier to find her under the Lebanon portal.

good luck

You may also want to check with AFU as they have other members experiencing the same fate, unfortunately. Sorry to hear of this rose.gif
