Just wondering which type of meat you have at Christmas. We eat ham (we're usually turkeyed out from Thanksgiving).

We have turkey because it's the only time my kids (from Canada) get to eat my stuffing, which is the ONLY stuffing they like in the whole world.
Our Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, so Canadians are ready for turkey again by December.
My hubby (the USC) would like to have prime rib roast one year, so maybe we'll fall away from tradition one year.

Our national meal is a fish soup (with male "sperms" and female eggs in it), fried carp (thatīs a fish) and potato salad. Thatīs what I have had every single Xmas
Donīt know if I will wanna have it once in USA, cuz I have found a carp there and tried to make it and there they probly donīt breed it in good waters or I dunno but it was a bit smelly to me

(For the ones wondering...here we breed carps in good waters and itīs really delicious..yum yum yum)

I think this is true of most Canadians. I know of no one in Canada that didn't have turkey at Christmas. Again, our Thanksgiving is in October, so turkey at Christmas is not too soon. My husband (the USC) has prime rib at Christmas, so that's what we're going to do this year. My in-laws are coming for a few days during the new year for a another little Christmas celebration, and we're going to have a spiral ham.

We only do turkey for Thanksgiving, and MAYBE ham for Easter, but that's usually lamb. FOr Christmas my mum makes a fab standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding, potatoes, veggies, etc. It's just weird that my mum started making Yorkshire pudding years ago....LONG before anyone knew I'd end up marrying a Yorkshireman.
And this Christmas, IN Yorkshire, my father-in-law will be cooking a Christmas goose....no Yorkshire pudding.

Christmas Eve is Chinese food of the authentic Szechuan type. Christmas Day is usually whatever my aunt makes and puts out at her house. Usually a lot of appetizers and glazed ham (YUCK).

takeout Chinese food so no one has to cook. Usually the extended family gets together twice, Christmas Day and another day during the season so that other family members can be there. One of those days it's Chinese food and the other it's a buffet kind of thing with appetizers, crackers and cheese, deli meat, wine, that sort of thing... we go to my cousin's house and there are a lot of people crowded in a small house, it's really easier not to cook. Leaves more time for talking to each other.

Cool. It's interesting to find out what traditions others have. We do our dinner on Christmas eve with a Honey Baked Ham, au gratin potatoes, veggies, hot wassail, rolls, and salad. On Christmas Day, we just snack on all the goodies we've gotten for Christmas.

we just do a big buffet table w/ snack foods...couple deli trays, differnt types of breads, veggie tray, crock pot full of cheese dip, sausage balls, lil smokies, some desserts...etc. it works out pretty well & its not a big ordeal to clean up.

christmas eve we do a roast goose, roast pork (with the skin on it), red cabbage, potatoes, and gravy.
christmas day we have a traditional danish smorrebrod. hours and hours of food that include left overs from the night before, all kinds of cold salads with different herrings, shrimp salad, salmon salad, ham with italian salad, roast beef, sliced ham, sausages, liver pate, danish cheeses, breads, and so on.
i can't wait! i wasn't in town last christmas and missed it! i think this year i'll make a princess cake and some other scandanavian desserts.

Christmas at my mom and dad's house usually consist of a ham and cheese potatos. But the last few years she has not had that. Its been more of snacking over there. And for my husband we will probably just stay home and have whatever he would like to cook up. Nothing special for us, except that we are together finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well in years past it's usually been a Christmas ham. On Christmas day, late lunch. This year I'll be in Germany and it will be Schnitzel Holstein on Christmas Eve (according to P the "real Christmas"). I suppose we'll do Schnitzel Holstein on 12/24 and ham on 12/25 in future years to make everyone happy

And almost always homemade cinnamon rolls Christmas morning.

We volunteer at a soup kitchen so dinner if often pickings from there and a few bottles of wine when we get home.

I'm really glad we do this as it takes all the pressure off Christmas and a chance to give back in the community. It is very humbling to see how many homeless people there are who survive the atrocious VT winters.

We usually have Italian food for Christmas day, mixed with a few other things. The Italian food consists of some kind of pasta, with homemade fettuccine and tomato sauces, and meatballs, and locatelli romano cheese to sprinkle on top. There might be some ham on the side, salad, bread, and now we also make something Indian, samosas usually. My grandfather(now in heaven) started the Italian food at Christmas tradition I think, he was fully Italian. His family passed down the most delicious meatball and tomato sauce recipes which are made on Christmas and sometimes on Easter too.
We don't have a special meal on Christmas Eve. For about 10 years now we have gone to a close family friends house on Christmas Eve, it's really fun, and they have a lot of finger foods and desserts there.

For me, the ideal meal would be chicken biryani, matar-paneer with side of chapatis.
(I can get the biryani and chapatis easily, but Pras doesn't really like ricotta cheese (paneer), so veggie or chicken korma will be substituted)

Prime rib on Xmas Day.
We do the exact same thing. As family gets more spread out, the number of seafood and pasta dishes has dwindled. Definitely not 7 fishes anymore ... more like 4 or 5 now. An antipasto to start and Italian pastires to finish round out the meal. I love the food on Xmas Eve so much that I would prefer to eat leftovers rather than another big meal on Xmas Day ... but hubby is looking forward to the prime rib this year

Roast beef (prime rib) must come under "Other -- please explain"??? SACRILEGE!!
We have had turkey on Christmas from time to time, but the killer traditional Christmas dinner in our family has and always will be roast beef, with Yorkshire pudding and the usual sides, plus plum pudding with hard sauce and a choice of pumpkin or mincemeat pie.
Christmas Eve is another thing altogether -- it's the big day (night) in Latin cultures, and Noche Buena is done up with pernil (roast pork). Plus sabajón (basically egg nog spiked with aguardiente). We used to just have a spaghetti dinner when I was a kid on Christmas eve . . . no more.

I voted other.
We always have a huge seafood feast on christmas feast on chirstmas eve. and then a late christmas morning brunch which includes ricotta pancakes, omlettes, whatever fruit we can find in season or imported that is good, Lebanese sauages, an assortments of baked goods- crossiants, scones, muffins usually.
Christmas night is all about leftovers.
