  1. Did you have a tracking number for the post office? Because my post office said they can do literally nothing without it. And SSA said "we don't save this information. It was mailed to you, figure it out, have a nice day". UPS or USPS? My branch said they used USPS. But I guess it depends on the branch itself?
  2. Thanks for your response! Would you mind sending a source you're referring to when talking about SSA reimbursing the cost of the fees? I honestly could not find anything rather than forums and 3rd party websites talking about it. I just called SSA once again and they said they cannot provide tracking information and there is absolutely nothing that they can do for me. Yes, I do have copy of my NC, and yes, I am aware that I should have ordered a passport card as well in order to send to SSA, but unfortunately I only found this advice after submitting my paperwork for the passport book only.
  3. Hello everyone, Here is my quick story. I became a citizen on March 18th, obtained my Naturalization Certificate + name change form. I applied to get a passport first, and received it precisely in 2 weeks after applying. Next step for me was updating of my SS record to get a new drivers license. I was very hesitant to send the originals of my documents to SSA, and my worst fear turn out to be true - they lost my documents. It has been 3.5 weeks since I applied for SS citizenship status/name change, and I haven't received anything from them, and neither had I seen any changes reflected in my SSA.gov online account. I finally talked to the person this morning, and they told me, that my documents were scanned almost 3 weeks ago, but SSA "forgot" to plug it in the system upon receiving, so it was done while I was on the line. They said I should receive my new SS card within two weeks, but when I asked about my documents, they said "oh, they were sent back to you on April 19th". Today is May 10th, and I obviously had not received anything. SSA clerk said I should inquire from the post office, but they cannot provide me with a tracking number "Just tell them the date when the documents were mailed". Obviously the lady at the post office looked at me like this O_O and said she cannot help me since I don't have a tracking number. With that said - did anyone have to go through the NC renewal, and more importantly, if you were able to make SSA/USPS/whoever else lost the documents pay for it? The replacement fee is $550, and I am not looking forward to pay this amount. Plus they also lost my military ID (I chose to send that one over the original of my drivers license).
  4. It took me 2 weeks to get my passport - applied 03/25 (expedited through USPS), passport book was in my mailbox on 04/09. NC came back 04/15.
  5. I am not sure why you decided to be defensive about it, I did not say you were lying. I appreciate you for sharing your experience! I called the SSA again, and the clerk confirmed that they require the DL to get my record updated. Since the clerk I talked to would be the one processing my case, I am not going to risk it. But hopefully your experience would help someone else!
  6. I hope you are right, because I explicitly asked the SSA clerk if the SS-5 + original of NC + original of the petition for the name change would be sufficient to update their record, and he said NO, we will also need the original of your driver's license that has your old name on it. So I am really on the fence here. I already received my new passport (it took 2 weeks btw), but haven't gotten my NC back yet. If what you're saying is true, I might just mail them the NC once I get it back.
  7. Wait you changed your name through naturalization and you only mailed them the passport card/book/NC (one of these) alongside with the name change form? That's it? You didn't send them an ID with your old name and still got the new SSN card?
  8. What makes you think all these things will suffice the requirement that is posted on their website? Because they will not. U.S. driver's license; State-issued non-driver identification card; or U.S. passport. These are only 3 options. Utility bill and a passport issued by a foreign country is not on the list. Maybe if I had a state-issued non-driver identification card, I'd be fine. But I don't. My drivers license is the only photo ID I have left with my old name on it since all my GCs were taken from me. So unfortunately my only option is to wait for their magic "call back" with the appointment date. The reviews on their Google page say that people have been waiting for months and they never heard back. Not much for me to do here.
  9. Yeah but I am changing my name. They need an ID with an old name on it, which in my case (and per their website) is a driver's license.
