INTERVIEW SUCCESS: K1 denied June 2014 and we got married and refile for IR1. My husband had his IR1 interview in the Lagos embassy on November 5 and was approved. This is a second interview for him. We were denied a K1 over a year ago and got married and filed for IR1. Apparently it’s a whole new crew of COs now, who are younger than the ones there before. They seem nicer, and were giving a lot of approvals. For our own interview, he submitted all the requested documents when he first walked in and his COs, a youngish female, initiated the interview by asking about my previous marriage.
CO: So her previous husband died?
    Hub: Yes, he did
CO: Do you know what date he died?
    Hub: Answered
CO: When did you two meet and how did you meet?
    Hub: Answered
CO: When did the relation turn romantic?
    Hub: Answered
CO: When did she come back to Nigeria next?
    Hub: Answered
    CO: When did you propose?
Hub: Answered and also told them about me coming back for the second visit the same year for an introduction dinner with family and friends.
CO: When did she come again after that?
Hub: After the engagement and introduction, we filed for K1 visa and were denied.
CO: Do you know why you were denied?
Hub: They said I didn’t have enough proof of Bona Fide relationship, but that nothing is stopping us from getting married. So we got married in September 2014 and refiled again.
CO: Do you have pictures of the wedding? What kind of wedding did you have?
Hub: We had a registry wedding at Ikoyi, and a big reception with family and friends, with a Chairman, Emcee, live band. Here are the pictures.
CO: Did you have a honeymoon?
Hub: Yes, we did. We went to Ghana. Here at the pictures.
Co: Has she met your children?
Hub: Yes, many times. There are pictures of her at the wedding with the children and here are more pictures from her recent visit.
CO: Oh, she came back again?
Hub: Yes, she came back for our first wedding anniversary and we had a party with friends. (shows more pictures)
CO: Who will take care of the children when you leave?
Hub: Answered. Then he adds that once he is settled, we will file for the children.
CO: OK, everything seems to be in order. You are approved. This is where you will pick up your via in about two weeks. Also, please try to pay the visa fee before you leave for America (hands him white paper with visa pickup location circle and another paper about visa fee). Congratulations.
    Hubby: Thank you very much.
I coached hubby beforehand to know our timeline very well, and that became the major focus of the interview. I also encouraged him to try and interject important evidence that she must hear, to overcome the reason for our precious denial. He did that very well, as he talked about our timeline as a story, with important events along the line. Prayer was non-stop along the entire journey between the both of us. My constant prayer, Lord, give my husband the tongue of the learned, that he will speak a word in season…(Isaiah 50:4). Know exactly what to say. God did it!
