B2 Visa for Indonesian Citizens

Hi again all,

We are hoping to bring my husband's parents over to the US next year after our baby is born. But I cannot for the life of me find out for how long they will be able to stay. I found the form, the process, the details, the dollar amount AND that their vis allows multiple entries and is valid for 60 months. But surely their I94 will have restrictions and tell them to go home after 60 or 90 days, right?

Can anyone help? If I have been blind and there is obvious link somewhere, please share it. I have pregnancy brain.

Thanks in advance

Depends on the CBP officer's determination. It could be up to 6 months. Even so, they shouldn't book their flight back to Indonesia dated on the final couple of days to avoid potential overstay.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

This is VERY helpful thanks to both of you!  =)

Any advice on convincing the consulate they will return home? We have the basics down - but the only concern I have is the money aspect. They can show they own a home, and his Dad runs his own fishing boat, and they have other children and grandchildren. BUT they are very poor. We are paying for everything. So it's not like they can bring a note from their employer or show loads of money going into the bank every month. I would say his Dad and Mom, between the garden and fishing, make maybe $100 US every month or so.

Does not sound like they will be able to stay very long with those commitments.

There is not much to do, fill the form and go to the interview, their situation is what it is.

Hmmm, well when I say "everything' - I mean their visit. They can handle all of their bills on their own and always have. And when they are gone, their son and daughter-in-law will take over for them. They don't owe house payments, they just need to pay for utilities and livestock feed.

Their age probably helps. A friend's mother just got a tourist visa to visit her daughter, who is here on a Fulbright. Her mom is better off financially than your in-laws by the sound of it, but she's poor by US standards. I frankly was quite surprised she got the visa, but I guess since she's around 60, owns a home and is employed, it was ok!

My only advice is for them to make it clear they just want to visit you and their grandchild, and not care for it.

If going to Jakarta or Surabaya takes the same amount of effort, I'd recommend going to the latter consulate. They're a little more laid back there from what I've heard.

Thanks!  I will keep all this in mind. How long did they approve her visa for? We really aren't "concerned" about the time frame, just curious.

Thanks!  I will keep all this in mind. How long did they approve her visa for? We really aren't "concerned" about the time frame, just curious.

I think you should focus on getting the visa first because it does not look very likely with the facts presented, before worrying about validity and entry lengths.

Do you mean how many years is it valid for? I believe 5. If you mean how long she can stay,  as others have said, CBP decides on how long the traveler(s) can stay when they arrive.

A few months would be preferential, but nothing is set in stone. As is usually the case with Indonesia. We take life as it comes and we will take what we can get - if anything at all.

No - I was asking how long your friend's mother's visa was approved for. Did she come for 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, etc?

She's coming in May for 2-3 weeks. I don't know if she booked her plane ticket before getting her visa. She will be staying with her daughter, so I assume they didn't inquire much about accommodations while she's here.
