Hi, I am new to the K-1 visa process.  My fiance lives in Venezuela and I am a US citizen.  I am not sure if I need to get a Visa to go to Caracas or how difficult that would be given the current political climate.  She has traveled here on a tourist visa, multiple times, and we have many pictures and a picture of the ring I gave her.  Obviously it would help her case to have me there, in addition to showing her support. But, is it a deal breaker?

thanks for any and all replies!

US government issued a warning to USC wanting to travel to Venezula and ordered family personal of embassy workers out of that country

meet in a neutral country

not sure what it says about Venezula now as it is added to travel ban and may be for all visas but you need to find out before applying for finance or spouse visa

It isn't a "deal breaker" not to be at the interview, no.

Some embassies don't allow the petitioner in for the interview, so would need to check if they even would allow you to go in with her.

I think majority of K-1 interviews at done solely by the beneficiary without the petitioner present.

The only people that are currently on the Travel Ban for Venezula are select high ranking members of that regime. The regular people are not under that travel ban and are not affected by it.

"The suspension order applies to certain Venezuelan government officials and their immediate family members who are non-immigrants on business or tourist travel to the U.S."

I went for my interview back in 2010, so I'm not sure if anything has changed due to the current situation in Venezuela. My fiance did come with me to my interview and She had no problem coming with me. She was sitting right behind me while I was having my interview and at one point the person doing the interview asked her to come up and she asked her a few questions and congratulated us for our upcoming wedding and approved our visa.

You would definitely need a Visa to enter the country, but I would advise you against going to Venezuela. honestly, it is NOT a deal breaker if you cant attend. I know many people who got approved without being there for their interview. As long as yall have enough proof of your relationship that's all they care about.

E-mail the Immigrant Visa Unit in Caracas and ask point-blank.

Make sure that whoever responds to you affirms that the answer is coming from a consular officer in that unit.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thread is moved from the K-1 Process forum to the Embassy/Consulate forum -- topic involves that phase.
