Hello! Our petition is estimated to be approved sometime in May, and we get married August 28th.

I’m having a hard time finding out roughly how long the rest of the process takes once the petition is approved?

How long does it take to process once you send in all the financial info, then being able to book the biometrics and interview?

Is it true once they approve the interview they practically give you the visa right then?

Thank you!!

Noa2 to  NVC right now is taking 6 weeks and after that a week for it to get to embassy. After embassy it depends on which embassy you're using. Usually 1-2 months.

You also have to consider that not everyone is approved on the spot.  There is always the possibility of being put in Administrative Processing after the interview.  The point is, don’t make any non-refundable plans until the visa is in hand.

Good Luck!

Approved K-1 visa lets your fiancé enter the states with obligation to get married within 90 days. Then you have to apply for AOS (Ajustment of Status) for your spouse to get a green card. It’s a separate process, and the one that require biometrics etc. It cost $1245 if I remember  well. Read the timelines and estimated processing times to find how long it takes atm.

Also.. with AOS you can apply forms for work permit and travel document for free and I highly recommend it, bcs AOS is taking a long time and you want your fiancé to live, work and travel like a normal human being probably instead of being stuck at one for months :)

I'd say that it is going to be a close call to have everything done in time for an August 28 wedding date.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Thanks you all! Yeah it’s feeling like we may have to change some things around.

Another question...

if we send off the financial info as SOON as the petition is approved, does that cut off the current 6 week processing time for NVC

You won't send financials in or have a biometric appointment with a K1 visa. You are getting things mixed up with other immigration processes. The NVC does nothing with a K1 petition file but assign a new case number (LNDxxxxxxxxx for London) and send the file immediately on to London. NVC sends a letter to the American that the file was sent to the consulate. London Immigrant Visa Unit sends a letter to the Brit that the file was received and he/she can apply for the visa.

Your instructions provided by London https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/ will give you an idea of what will be needed.

That part alone can take two months to get to the interview day. Then a week for the visa to be delivered if all goes well at the interview.  It's unlikely you can be married by August 28 based on today's timelines, but timelines change often so you can't even go by any of them to know for sure.

Ah I see...well I know I’ll have to send a form of financial info and all that for our sponsor... then he will be able to schedule his medical and interview appointments, correct?

I know all that will still take time

You are talking about the I134 correct?  I believe your fiancé will need that for the interview.

He needs your I-134 affidavit of support and one proof of income to take in hand to his interview. Read the link with the London procedures for the step by step process. Read every link.
